  1. That worked 30 years ago, but the sport is played entirely differently today. You can’t build a smash mouth football team that will compete in the Big Ten from nothing, at least not in the time frame that will keep a coach his job. If you’re not getting close to 30 points a game, you’re not going to win consistently. With such a team we will look like a version of Iowa that loses instead of wins.
  2. We recently moved to AZ, and after seeing what's been going on at AZ this season, my pick would be Jedd Fisch. His first season at AZ they won 1 game (total rebuild from not winning at all in 2020 and 4 wins in 2019 - previous coach's last game was a 70-7 blowout against ASU). Last season, they won 5 games. This year, they've won 9, only losing to Washington by 7 (of Penix fame), USC in 3ot, and Miss St in ot in non-conference. The past two weeks they annihilated Utah 42-18 (it was even more lopsided than that score suggests), and they beat their rival ASU 59-23. All of ASU's points came in garbage time. He's done at Arizona exactly what we need at IU, and he'd arguably be starting even further along here than he did at AZ.
  3. Once Carey took over, we were pretty much right in every game. Gotta wonder if he was in charge at the beginning of the season how things would have turned out. Could have saved Allen his job. It's quite obvious the bad offense gassed the defense by the end of the season each of the last three years.
  4. The most frustrating thing is that I think we are a much better team than Purdue, and we just gave up in the fourth quarter
  5. We can’t tackle or get a stop to save our lives
  6. Purdue gets so lucky in this game every year it seems. That just fell right into his hands
  7. I’m so tired of the “he’s impossible to ref” trope. He’s not; you call it like he’s just another player, because that’s exactly what he is. Other teams don’t get away with more against edey than they do against other big men; it’s just more obvious because he commands much more viewer attention. He does get away with quite a lot because he’s got this aura of “he doesn’t foul” just like Aaron Craft did; and the both foul/fouled like crazy. I mean just on the last play alone his legs were spread like 8 feet wide on his screen
  8. Picking up where they left off the refs have called 7 fouls on Marquette and 1 on Purdue with 7:11 to go in the first half
  9. Much consistently worse yesterday; however the two bad calls today have been monumentally bad. Reneau’s hand was a full foot away, and the other one was so clearly all ball it’s not funny
  10. Why the hell is jay williams so intent on making excuses for the refs?
  11. Kind of where I am. Sure, XJ had a bad game, but how much of it is because he was getting elbowed in the throat every other play, and then getting ghost foul calls on him at the other end? You can say he needs to rise above it, and you'd be right, but at this point, we know who he is; emotion is a big part of his game. And Reneau should not have fouled out at all. 2-3 of the fouls on him were such terrible, terrible calls. If just those two things aren't perpetrated by the refs, I think this is a single digit loss, and everyone's tune is much different. The only things that I found really disappointing today are: - Rebounding - Mgbako- just not even any effort at all, terrible shots, completely lost on defense. If you took away his recruiting ranking, everyone would be wondering why he played AT ALL - The lack of fight after Reneau fouled out - we folded like a cheap suit
  12. Right after Uconn, this is how I see things: - Defense is going to get progressively better; around early January, people will be saying we are a tough defensive team - CJ Gunn is going to find his shot; he's so close, and I think he's going to start hitting more consistently soon - Mgbako is either going to start playing, or start sitting; right now, he's not even trying. As Jay Williams pointed out several times, he doesn't even get in a stance on defense. I'm so sick of hearing that he should be playing at the 4 - it won't matter until he gives even a modicum of effort. Up until now, he just out-talented everyone around him, and he's got that attitude - he needs to learn to play hard. I hope he starts playing - we could be a very good team if he does. - Offense isn't going to look pretty until at least Feb, if it ever does, but it will look better than it does now - We will be much, much better in a month than we are right now - we held our own against Uconn for most of the game; we gave up when Reneau fouled out - I think our mental toughness will improve, but everyone has to start giving more effort first
  13. You know, that’s an over the back
  14. With an impartial officiating crew this would be a 4-5 point game right now
  15. Refs just aren’t gonna give us a chance
  16. We are not allowed to do what UConn is being allowed to do
  17. The defense lost the game last week; this was not their fault
  18. As far as I’m concerned, we won this game; officials just handed it to msu
  19. Man, we are just getting absolutely hosed at the end of this game
  20. Knowing that there’s really nothing to lose, I’d do a fake dog here and go for it
  21. And now swallowing their whistles on the pi on what would have been a touchdown
  22. That hold prevented a sack. Absolute trash officiating. Our dl got held twice before the pass
