I think it's probably hard for a lot of us in our 30s, 40s, 50s, etc. to think through and understand how Gen Z thinks about social media and interacts with it, and really how they think about life in general. They're not wrong, it's just different and it's them. Just like Millennials, Gen X, and Baby Boomers are all different.

Yep, I work with a lot of people in their early/mid 20s and always enjoy their perspectives. I always spend a lot of time talking with them about music, movies, food, just life in general. It is a TOTALLY different world that they are growing up in. We learn a lot from each other.

I would not want to try to make my way in this world like they are having to do.

Barstool accounts are trash. Unfortunately, Barstool is also a popular brand because a lot of sports fans don't have a problem with and even enjoy acting like trash on the internet. You can see some of that rationalization in this thread. On its face the image seems a harmless meme. When you're subjected to similar images day in and out, the impact compounds.

Sure it'd be great if guys could stay off social media. Woody has said as much. But that's easier said for someone of his generation, and I'm guessing for most of you reading this board, than it is done by today's players. I'm 40, and was in college when Facebook was just kicking off. When I first met my wife we didn't exchange phone numbers, we traded friend requests. For someone in college today, social media has literally always been a part of how they interact with their peers. Yet whenever they log in, they see themselves tagged in any number of brutal comments from people they've never met, and who have no idea what goes in to being a Div I athlete.

So let them be human. Let them have the same defensive reaction you or I would, especially at that age. I promise their time on Instagram isn't keeping them from practicing free throws, or any other nonsense complaint like that. If anything, I'm encouraged to see the team come together like this, and have each others' backs. Would that our fans could circle the wagons the same way.

Exactly. My only reaction to this whole thing is “Yep, Barstool is still trash.” Pretty harmless post sure, but it would be best if accounts like this didn’t exist. Just lowest common denominator stuff.

Also I don’t care what the players do or do not do on social media. It’s a part of life for people that age. As much as we would all like to return us to Mayberry, it’s just not happening.

Man these floods in Santa Barbara and Montecito. My aunt/uncle/cousins all live there. A creek basically across the street from their home that never has water in it ever looks like the Wabash. To any of our brethren that is out there or lives there....be safe.

Yeah, those pictures and videos are not good. Really feel for all the people and the animals in the path of these floods.

I did last year. I have 3 degenerative discs and no disc between my L5 and S1. Back surgery is an inevitability.  It was suggested I put it off as long as I can tolerate.  I'm good I'd say 75% of the time.

Ooof, sorry brother. Back pain is pretty rough. I don’t think people understand how much it impairs functioning, if they’ve never had it.

    Sending good thoughts your way.

  5. I haven’t been able to watch the last two games as they aired and we lost both. It’s clearly my fault and for that I apologize.

I will be sure to watch at 7pm on Wed.

That said, I don’t have a whole lot of hope for a win. I’m not at “Archie-level” avoiding live games yet, but am not keen to watch the losses pile up again this year.

Sorry the papers I’ve read aren’t much better than TV or internet news. Looking at the local small city paper right now and the only stories on the front page are about a family “still seeking justice “ for the murder of a daughter 10 years ago. “1 dead in New Years fire” and “11 new state laws going into effect “ ?

Many local papers are not actually local anymore though. Being bought up by conglomerates like TV stations.

I’ve always read the paper and a few magazines to get my news. It’s just a habit and my mind is better for it.

Whatever happened to the local newspaper that always had a picture of a park or kids playing or someone getting an award on the front page? A paper that reported news instead of opinions!

News is dying, b/c people want to be entertained, proven right, or outraged. That’s what pays the bills.

We still spend every Sunday morning with some jazz on the turntable and our local newspaper (delivered to our door by an actual human) for a few hours. My wife doesn’t read the opinion section and I only skim it.

Just finished a bit ago actually.

I couldn’t tell you the last time I’ve seen any TV news outside of an airport lounge. Has to be over a dozen or so years now. Just don’t need some clueless gasbag trying to get me riled up.

Totally agree, and it's not limited to these "ladies". The anchors on so called "news" shows display their ignorance every time they open their pie holes. 90%+ of Hollywood is bonkers, and on, and on, and on....

I do not and will not watch any news show like that. I just don’t think television is the way to get news these days. Always some blowhard idiot - it’s not limited to these dumbass women - trying to shove their controversial opinion down your throat. They need eyeballs on the screen and will say anything to make that happen.

I’d be happy if both CNN and FOX News disappeared tomorrow. And I guarantee you our country would be much better off w/o both.

I would like to say that I expect an angry team to show up and take care of business, but that’s not in our DNA. I’ve been one all year saying we’re too soft outside of XJ. No bulldogs on this team now.

That’s been my problem with our teams lately. We need more toughness and edge. Talent is great and all, but you have to have to want it and out tough the other team.

As much as I hate to say it, Rutgers has that. 🤮

  10. They need to be prepared and pissed off on Sunday. Will be tough w/o Race, but Malik needs to learn fast.

I’m guessing Duncomb is not bringing it in practice, but he has done pretty well when he has played limited minutes against cupcakes. He needs to be ready to play some.

  11. I watched the first half and then shut it off. Just wanted to see the good stuff really.

That was a heck of a start on the road. Really hope that becomes a norm for us.

JHS is going to really shine with all of this playing time. Hope it doesn’t wear him down to much by season end though.

I am old enough to remember all IU teams from '75 forward.

In my opinion, the '92-'93 team was the best.

That’s my IU history as well. Started with that ‘75 team, though I was only 7 years old at the time. Still wouldn’t miss a game. Also when they finally lost I was like, “Wait, what? We don’t lose. How did that happen.”

I can’t imagine either Race or XJ will be back until late February - absolute best case scenario. How are we going to adapt?

Our starting line-up has to be:
    JHS
    Bates
    Gallo
    Kopp
    TJD

Geronimo is only going to be able to play decent stretches when the match-ups are right.

We need to hope and pray that Malik learns to play with in the offense instead of becoming a black hole.

Because our depth is now so thin, do we looking at showing a zone? Just to give a different look and stop scoring runs that will inevitably happen?

.500 in conference will be quite a feat.

Man, it seems like just yesterday when most of us were crowing about our depth this year.

Iowa grabbed a 5 point lead late in the second half. Woody finally put in a line up of TJD, Kopp, Gallo, Bates and JHS. We went on an 8-0 run. There was space and movement.

….until there wasn’t. The same line up failed to score for the last 2 or 3 minutes because they stopped moving and fell into the same old stand-around-the-perimeter-looking-for-a-passing-lane-int-TJD-in-the-post.

That said, most of that movement was in transition and spurred by good defense, but at least we saw the line up many have been asking for. Granted it was forced by injuries and Geronimo looking like he was playing the game with Oculus goggles on that were on a 2 second delay.

    Guess that’s a bright spot. 🤷‍♂️

Appreciate that summary. I might watch today if it’s a slow work day. Wife is at the office.

Just bummed that my high hopes at the beginning of the year are starting to settle into “oh, it’s going to be another middling season.”

Porn addiction is a very real thing. And it's something noone wants to talk about.  I had my first internet connection about 1996 and not long after my first porn experience.  I haven't seen it it about 16 years when I first me my wife. It really does mess you up and part of the reason why I think these school shootings happen is because kids aren't being socialized properly and porn is part of that.

If I could choose another career it would be school counselor and I'd be a hell of alot better than what I had. With the exception of one.

Oh no doubt, it’s a hell of a thing. I grew up with magazines and VHS. Can‘t imagine the fire engine hose flow of porn I would have consumed as a teen if I grew up now.

  16. Have been pretty sick the last couple of days, so took some Theraflu and taped the game last night. As I was falling asleep, I checked the score and we were up by 20 early. At Iowa! Went to sleep with a big smile on my face, and then woke up to this bullshit.

Is the game even worth watching? Race injured? Any bright spots? Sounds like JHS and TJD were really good.

Along with the lack of respect for people in not using earbuds, just yesterday coming out of the grocery store. That zone in front where traffic is supposed to stop for pedestrians. A woman stopped right in the middle to stare at her phone. Oblivious to the truck that tooted the horn. I’m not sure she completely understood what she was doing when another woman rolled down her window and started yelling at the top of her lungs!

Zombies. They can’t look away from their phones. That’s got to be a big cause of the increase in traffic crashes and running over pedestrians.

A few years ago my wife and I were waiting for a seat at Big Woods pizza in little Nashville.  Right in front of the entrance a couple at a table were watching porn on one of their phones volume on probably 100%. I couldn't frickin belive it. Right in front of families with kids.

Our society, really any with access to tech have so much mind rot.

Oof, unfortunately we see that here on the sub sometimes - not often, but it happens. I’m not really trying to overhear people watching porn on their phones on my way to or from work. But I think that’s where we are.

People don’t seem to care about how their actions impact the people around them. I also think I’m over sensitve to the noises of others. Picked a great place to live, didn’t I?

I have your typical southern Indiana accent... I talk like I am from KY, at times, I can admit it. Some accents... I flat out cannot understand... lol early on with Peaky for me was ROUGH

Ha, Gibson County accent reporting for duty, but it’s faded after 20 years here. Although, when I’m back home and talking with family it definitely comes back out.

And yes, PEAKY absolutely needs subtitles for me!

I have watched-- Jack Ryan Season 3, Terminal List, Jack Reacher, Lincoln Lawyer all very recently. All very good.

Peaky is my all time favorite. Use subtitles.

Thanks for the hint about subtitles. I have not been using them.

Ha, my wife and I were watching Bad Sisters one night about a month ago. Great, fun series, but the Irish accents are strong.

I was admittedly pretty high at the time, but suddenly I was like, “Why are the subtitles on? They are speaking English?” But my wife was like listen closer, it’s really hard to understand. As I concentrated a bit more, she was right. I needed the subtitles. Didn’t have any issues until she mentioned. Now, I will use them sometimes.
