Hope you all are able to tune in this evening. Can't say enough about this group of players, staff, and program.

Tonight will be electric in Assembly Hall and this program and Coach Moren deserves it.

7K last weeknight home game... I think we get to 10K tonight. Or more...

Taped it and am about to sit down and watch!

It has arrived. MUCH better quality than I expected.  Doesn't even feel like it's made out of polymer.

So the blade is the part stuck in the wood it looks like? The rest is poly?  I think from now on when I see you posting, I’m  going to picture you running up to the computer with this in your outstretched hand. RAWR!

While Biden may claim he isn’t your article directly references (SF, LA, NY) some municipalities are banning them. (California starting in 2030 will no longer be allowed to purchase new gas stoves) New York and Oregon haven similar legislation being proposed and pushed in new buildings etc so it isn’t hard fetched to see where the confusion has started especially with how the govt handled the report. Whether it is Biden or not states are trying to do it so if you want to keep buying gas stoves or you enjoy gas cooked food in many of your fine dining restaurants well you have a choice to push back. May not effect too many people but I don’t blame those that don’t like it for being vocal. A lot of things on the right or left get pushed through without the public being aware or having a say so I’d rather see passion then apathy.

But it’s not confusion. These news anchors are not dumb. They know what they are doing. And that’s stirring up people who won’t take the time to research it. Are they bad for you? Maybe? Are a lot of things we do bad for us? Certainly.

But I’m just so sick of the media using these pretty much nothing burger things to divide us.

How much time do you have?  This is just one possibility.  Daniel Kahneman wrote a book "Thinking fast, thinking slow" I have on my reading list. I think most people either don't have much of system 2 or fail to engage it.

One thing that stuck out to me at my college graduation.  There were about 3000 graduates total and maybe 60-70 of us were from the School of Science and Engineering.  In my introductory to biology class, probably 75% dropped it and went to the liberal arts school because intro biology was too hard.

I think most people are shallow thinkers and prefer being spoon fed information.

Gullibility occurs because we have evolved to deal with information using two fundamentally different systems, according to Nobel Prize winning psychologist Daniel Kahneman.

System 1 thinking is fast, automatic, intuitive, uncritical and promotes accepting anecdotal and personal information as true. This was a useful and adaptive processing strategy in our ancestral environment of small, face-to-face groups, where trust was based on life-long relationships. However, this kind of thinking can be dangerous in the anonymous online world.

System 2 thinking is a much more recent human achievement; it is slow, analytical, rational and effortful, and leads to the thorough evaluation of incoming information.

I think you touched on some important things in your post. Shallow thinking and gullibility are a problem.

But I also think many of us want to believe things that agree with our world view, no matter how bonkers they may seem.

It doesn’t help that television (and print)  “news” is being weaponized against us. People consume so much bad information from these programs.

  5. Was able to watch the Michigan game last night. Man, this team competes. First time I’ve seen them play this year and it was impressive how they just kept Michigan at an arms length pretty much the whole night. No panic. No rushed shots.

Holmes is really a force on the inside and later in the game Berger just put on a clinic of getting to the basket through traffic.

Great outside shooting as well by the team. Fun team to watch!

The OSU game Thursday night is also on BTN - that will be a hell of a game. Glad it’s at home.

(Even though this is basketball related, I didn't want to post it on the bball board.)

Postgame pressers: Guys like that POS Coyle that takes 5 minutes to ask his damn question, that should take 15 seconds, or less. And Coyle isn't the only one. Seems like they want a bunch of mic time. (I'm sure it's an ego thing) but they're supposed to be reporters, not arm chair coaches.

Wish Woody would start "dismissing" these idiot questions, or at least interrupt them and ask if they have a question in our lifetime.

Those drive me crazy. We have the exact same thing that happens in academic medicine seminars at work. The speaker gives their presentation and then I usually leave once the questions start. The people asking the questions always have to talk about themselves first, show everyone how smart they are, and then finally meander to their actual question. Rinse repeat for about fifteen minutes.

Another mass shooting. This one in Monterey Park, a city 10 miles east of LA.

Turned on CBS to catch the IU-MSU game and the local news has taken over... just a terrible situation all around.

What’s most sickening about this one is that they were just trying to celebrate an important occasion. But some asshat couldn’t abide by that. Just horrible.

  8. Didn’t get a chance to watch the game until last night, but man that was a just dominance over Illinois on their court. I’m actually surprised we didn’t beat them by 25.

Geronimo seems to be getting what his role is now. Glad that he and Woodson figured that out.

And TJD looks like his back is almost 100%. Dude looks like he is on a mission - probably realizes that this is his last shot st making some big noise in the tournament.

My favorite part of the game was how quickly the crowd abandoned their or “IU sucks” chant. That lasted about a minute before we started stepping on their team’s throat - on their home court.

On to the next. I HATE the whining Sparties and their coach. Cannot have a let up tomorrow.

Two more for the collection, though this Northwoods is going to be a user. It’s my first Northwoods (Gladstone, MI) knife and I like how it’s more of a rough unfinished blade of carbon steel.

The one with the acorn shield is an older 2008 Great Eastern Cutlery knife. Actually paid a bit more than I wanted for it on Ebay, but absolutely fell in love with the aggressive jigging on the bone covers. Both are in the 3.75 inches size, which I like for pocket carrying.

I agree. The good news is most of the remaining games will be broadcast. Only two of the final ten games are relegated to BIG+.

Great news, thank you both. Will be nice to see them live on BTN.

Oh no doubt. Worst case scenario they put regulations on them to where they suck so bad noone wants them anyway. Like HE washing machines.

Or the new automatic dryers that always stop when your clothes are just the right level of damp.

I don’t even use our dryer anymore - just hang the clothes on a drying rack. Also helps with the dry air in our apartment.

I don't have a gas stove but support those that do.

I prefer a gas stove over electric for cooking and making espresso. We unfortunately have an electric.

Also, this kerfuffle seems to be manufactured to get people’s panties in a wad:

    Quote

THE FACTS: The White House says President Joe Biden would not support a ban, and the commission, an independent agency, says no such ban is in the works.

“I am not looking to ban gas stoves and the CPSC has no proceeding to do so,” CPSC Chair Alex Hoehn-Saric said in a statement on Wednesday.

    Quote

“To be clear, CPSC isn’t coming for anyone’s gas stoves,” he wrote. “Regulations apply to new products.”

Despite this, news of a potential “gas stove ban” continued to spread in headlines and on social media. Some users, including Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, shared an old photo of first lady Jill Biden cooking on a gas stove, suggesting hypocrisy.

“The federal government has no business telling American families how to cook their dinner. I can tell you the last thing that would ever leave my house is the gas stove that we cook on,” West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin tweeted Tuesday.

I really wish politicians would spend more time doing productive things (HA!), rather than lathering up their bases.

An easily.overlooled part of thos game is that our freshman JHS totally won his battle against Hepburn. Thoroughly.

    Totally shut him down.

This is the kind of effort I’v been waiting for. Was hoping that we had hit rock bottom after trying to figure out how to replace XJ and Race. Sometimes it takes a bit of time to adjust when you lose key people.

Loved handing Wisconsin their asses and knowing they had no answer. TJD looked pissed and ready to go, JHS’ mid-range  jumper is going to pay off, and love that Jeronimo seemed to respond to Coach riding him in that long practice.

I thought we would win today in a close game, but much prefer a blowout. Especially against the Badgers.

Bring that same effort against Illinois and we win that one too.

  14. This is my least favorite part of an IU basketball season. Starts getting difficult and the losses come, which is a bummer, but tolerable. What’s tough is wading through all of the FIRE THE COACH posts and threads, when we’ve barley started the conference season. Doesn’t matter who the coach is, the behavior is the same and predictable.

I love talking and reading about IU basketball, but I’ll be avoiding the IU basketball section of the forum after losses from here on out. I’d rather talk politics with @Reacher than read through all this drama.

  15. I don’t see how Barney Fife would help this team - only one bullet and all. Kidding, but no Fife would not make a lick of difference other than scaring kids away.

First 10 minutes looked okay for the most part. We were competing. I was even hopeful a bit in the early first half, but man the wheels came off fast. My first inclination is to buckle down for another extended losing streak and wallow in misery, but I’m going to try to have some faith over the next few games.

We would not have lost all of these games at full strength, but that doesn’t matter anymore. We have to play the guys who we have. Let’s just win the next game and go from there.

Reading back through this thread... just to be clear. You know that this "barstool" acct isn't actually associated with Barstool the company, right? Like there is no true affiliation.

Actually no, I did not know that. Thank you for pointing out.

I can’t keep of all the wannabe social media sports accounts and pretty much just ignore all of them these days.

Edited to add that The Daily Hoosier and Inside the Hall are on my reading lists. They are actually providing great and useful content.
