Being a firefighter/emt, I hate to report that we have a greatly declining society.   Of course I'm jaded because I see first hand on a daily basis the sick nature of our people.  I also see how stupid people are.  Like, you don't call 911 for a headache.   Or if you are at the hotel across the street from the hospital and are well enough to walk down the hall to the elevator,  you can get to the er much faster by walking your butt to your car and take yourself.  But then again if they can do all that, you already figured out they don't need to go to the er.

2 shifts ago we sat on seen with a guy having a possible heart attack waiting on an ambulance for over 25 minutes.   Partly because of staffing issues but mostly because our society treats the ambulance like a personal taxi.

Not surprised by this, but it is really sad.

It's shocking to me that people don't understand that... Have we, as a society, become that ignorant or numb to the feelings of others?

Unfortunately, yeah I think we have. It’s funny, when I first moved here I was shocked at how considerate people were of each other in most cases. Then realized it was b/c of the close proximity. People tended to respect others, b/c we had no choice but to interact or impact each other.

But it seems like the last few years, people just can’t keep their cell phone sounds to themselves. Or worse, they know they can, but don’t think it’s necessary to do so.

That’s insane for me to consider.

Parents who allow their kids to watch tablets/phones during dinners in restaurants (or anywhere) without headphones. Adults do this too on occasion but I’ve witnessed it more with kids. Have some self awareness and respect for those who are enjoying their meals and don’t want to hear your anime or YouTube video.

I would like to second this and add the following:

People who watch tablets/phones on the subway without headphones.

And your last comment is perfect: “Have some self awareness and respect for those who are enjoying their meals (or commute) and don’t want to hear your anime or YouTube video.”

I’m usually reading a book on the subway, but that can be hard to do when the a$&hole next to you is playing Candy Crush with the volume on high or watching a show with a loud laugh track. I end up having to pull out my Airpods to put them in just to somewhat block their sounds.

I've got plenty of hypocrisies that I live with and it's ok for now. I feel like if I do my 6 miles every single day I can do whatever else I want. My Dr hates me for it....she's like I can't wait for the year where I can actually tell you something bad is coming. Haha.....which probably means I die of heart attack soon and I'll never be heard from ever again on here.

Same! I’ll work out and lift like a beast so I can keep enjoying cocktail hour and an evening hit or three of the demon weed.

  5. Lord help me, I’ve become obsessed with Great Eastern Cutlery traditional folders. These are such a bitch to find for decent prices, but they are so nice. Made right here in the US of A in Titusville, PA.

I’m not sure there’s a more satisfying combo of high quality wood and steel for me. Something about having one of these in your pocket is so satisfying. I think I’m going to need to set some personal limits on buying these. Already have two more coming in the mail. End of year bonus allowed me to be a bit squirrely in my holiday spending.

Anyone have any experience with GERD/Panic Attacks? I've pretty much changed my diet for the most part, I workout daily....all medical exams, tests, upper endoscopy,etc...all come back as good to go.

Recently though my acid reflux has been causing me to go into some minor panic attacks where I feel the  big one is coming. I take omeprazole daily. Just curious if anyone has anything else they'd suggest?

Have had some struggles with acid reflux, especially when lying flat and trying to sleep. Took the Pepcid daily started with 10mg and then graduated to 20mg.

The huge thing that helped me was cutting my alcohol intake down, especially beer. I don’t even take Pepcid anymore.

  7. Love seeing Bates continue to develop. His shot just looks so good.

Malik seems to have regressed a bit though unfortunately. Is it that he’s feeling pressure with TJD not being 100% or just the level of competition heating up. If it’s the latter, he better get prepared for the conference schedule.

Looks cool. Doesn't bother me but I'm not a purist.

The things that do irritate me are modified dates to make it look like a key date.  I've seen some nice grade common dates I would have bought ruined because the date was altered.

Artificially toning genuine silver coins. People apply chemicals to them or even stick them in a potato and bake them so they look like this.  They do it because toned coins command a premium.

Silver is reactive to the environment and can take on different colors depending on what the exposure is to. Here is a naturally toned example with the rainbow effect.images.jpeg.241067029358a1d3ee1251188195c623.jpeg

Ha, that’s also a big trend in bike parts/tools and knife blades/handles. Everyone is gaga for the anodized metals. I think they are neat, but would probably get old. They call that look “oil slick” on metal bike parts. Though I think some of them are just coated with coloring on the cheaper parts.

Uh, I don't know what to say here...

Leather-clad 'Mistress' asks Florida city commission to build sex 'dungeon' for 'doms' and 'subs'

Her closing statement is one for the ages...

"In closing, do not let this glamorous look distract you from doing your duty to take my demand," she told the panel. "I look forward to spanking each and every single one of you at the new, esteemed dungeon. You are dismissed."

I say, I like her moxie and confidence. But no spankings for me please.

So, he's right on the cusp of eligibility for a medical redshirt. Don't know if they count the game where he was injured.

According to the NCAA rules, in order to be granted a medical redshirt, the athlete must:

    • Suffer an injury that is deemed “season-ending”
    • Their injury must occur before the halfway point of the season
    • Not participate in more than 30% of the season’s games

It is important to note that the injury has to be season-ending. A season ending injury results when an athlete suffers a major injury in which they will be sidelined for several months. However, it is ultimately up to the athlete to decide if they want to go through with surgery or medical repairs as opposed to playing through the injury. There are many injuries throughout a collegiate season that could qualify you for a medical redshirt depending on when they occured.

Interesting. Maybe X can come back for another year to torment @Coach Shep 🤣

Not a fan of bottled water either. I don't want microplastics floating through my blood. I don't see how Nestle is different from any others though. If the aquifer in MI can be proven large enough to handle it, that makes much more sense than diverting water from out West where it is badly needed for so many other uses. I don't see why CA can't 1) build a desalination plant and 2) collect more of the water that  they let flow into the ocean.

Yeah, the microplastics are not great either. We have some of the best tap water in the US here in NYC - it comes from the Adirondacks and Catskills. So, we normally just drink chilled tap water from a glass. I have an aluminum bottle that I use at work.

Also, I try not to read too much about the aquafier situation out West anymore. I read a long form article a few years ago that damn near traumatized me just thinking about it. The West has got to figure that stuff out and soon.

  12. Was able to watch the game last night and I enjoyed watching the bench get so much playing time. Gunn and Duncomb were both pleasant surprises and I’m really intrigued by Banks. He looks kind of awkward on the court a lot of times, but then he just zips one direction and then the ball is in the hoop somehow.

Bates’ shot is really starting to look silky as well.

Nah, I dont worry about brands.  Most all my clothes are plain colors primarily shades of blue, green, gray/charcoal, and black.  I dont like stuff with logos or screen print.  If there is a logo its going to be small as I can find.  Im not a billboard, give me a free shirt though and I might advertise.

This is me as well. I hate logos on my clothing. My wife always says, “Oh, all primary colors again today.” Usually olive drab, navy blue, or grey. I also cover up the logos on my camera, backpack, etc. I don’t want my Sony camera screaming Sony from four different logos.

For my non-Apple watch watch, I ordered the version with no logo.

  14. Am still excited for the season and think we have a good shot at finishing in top 4-5 of the B1G and win a couple games in the tournament.  We got smoked by two incredible teams and wilted at Rutgers. We went 2-2 in the four non conf games I had circled and the young players need time to gel.

If we are being honest, I drank the kool aid earlier in the season thinking we were going to waltz through the B1G and end up int he Final Four. We were “that good.” Well, we weren’t and we aren’t. I do want to see us in the hunt of the B1G title race. I don’t think we will be in the driver’s seat, but we should be in the conversation.
