He's a big boy and you need that in the Big Ten.  I'd love to see IU get him but I'm a little more jazzed over McNeeley who can really shoot.

He's not super athletic or explosive but he's a baller. Smart player who knows how to use what he does have. Has decent range and is also a very good passer from what I've seen. There's a reason he's ranked as highly as he is despite not being freakishly athletic.

The point of my comment was that kids will overlook a school that has either received sanctions or has sanctions pending against them depending on how much NIL money is available to them and how big the stage is they can play on. I was not referring to Liam at all!! It just so happened to be mentioned about Kansas’ sanctions in a comment in his thread.

They overlooked those sanctions/pending sanctions before NIL so with NIL involved...definitely.

Man, we sure do make a lot of assumptions about people and their motives in life.

Maybe it's a young man taking time to make a very critical decision that will impact the rest of his life.

If his goal is the NBA, then NIL money may play a part....but not as big as some may think.

At least not for the very very high ranked kids.

NIL is probably a bigger player in transfers, hight 4 star and lower 5 star types.

But seriously, we should be careful making assumptions and judgments about people. It just sort of feels wrong.

Yep, for a very highly ranked kid who could well be a one and done 1st round selection, picking a school mostly based on NIL would be extremely short sighted. Which school he believes would have a better choice at improving his draft position would be the better choice even if the NIL was less. All things being equal, then the NIL might factor in but I bet there are other things that are higher priority to someone like that: style of play, how he would be used, how they would improve his game, relationship with the staff, relationship with the players, exposure, etc. Someone like that is probably highly competitive so winning might be a factor.

Between IU and Kansas, a lot of those things will be either the same or close. McNeeley has said that relationships and how the staffs have recruited him (length of time and level of involvement) are important to him. I don't see any reason to not believe him and IU has the advantage in those aspects, I think.

I mean the main reason we lost both games last year is because we game planned to let JHS take mid-range jumpers and to his credit, he hit a lot of them those two games. You play the odds there and unfortunately for us, he was hot both games. The game plan was correct.

It’s not the only way we can run offense but it’s the most effective so why try something else when you have a cheat code at center. Loyer and Smith were true freshmen last year and will improve.

Woodson is a solid coach no doubt but he’s not better than Painter IMO. JHS was the difference maker in the two games last year.

The tournament losses to double digit seeds have to stop I’ll give you that. I like the new guys that were added this year and hopefully the added athleticism can help us out a bit.

So a coach who sticks with a game plan which isn't working in two separate games isn't getting out coached? If the same game plan doesn't work both times it is utilized is it really a good game plan?

Coaches come up with the game plans and make adjustments as needed. Failing to do so would indicate he was outcoached in both games. So head-to-head against Painter, it would appear that Woodson is the better coach. The above examples from last year plus 3-1 overall in favor of Woodson and very close to 4-0.

Don Fischer was on local radio and talked about the scrimmage at practice yesterday. He said the team didn't really look good yesterday and the 2nd team dominated the starters

Yikes. Hopefully, it was just a bad day and another month of practice to play together and jell will fix whatever issues they had.

Yeah… you don’t treat someone of that stature that way

Yep, he's a legend there because he's a HOF coach who has the most wins in NCAA men's history. He's willing to still be involved to help prevent a drop off after his retirement and the only thing they have to do is hire the coach he wants. It would be pretty arrogant of the AD to think he would be a better evaluator of coaching talent than Coach K plus make the right hire to continue to win while also pissing of the outgoing legendary coach.

It's pretty much a win-win for the AD to do it the way they did. Either they keep on winning and he looks smart or they fail to win and he can pretty much pass it it off as he was just doing what Coach K recommended.

From a hardware perspective if it is truly down to IU vs Bama, IU wins the battle.  Bama has gotten some guys to the NBA recently as has IU.  Let's see the closer work, get'em CMW

Hardware? I doubt the championships from 36+ years ago will do much to sway recruits. Play style, if they can get to the NBA, and relationships will be the motivation.

Both schools have had success in not only getting players into the NBA recently, but also getting them from not expected to be drafted to drafted or improving their draft position. I do know that they players Woodson has worked with are vocal about his coaching helping them.

I just thought it was strange he'd talk to 2 different teammates about going to 2 different schools with him...

But, the day I can figure out what 18 year olds are thinking, I'll be a rich man 🙂

Like I said, it isnt/wasn't a package deal. More of "it would be cool if we played together" without anything as definite as "we're going to play together." It makes sense since some of the schools McNeeley was considering overlapped with  Queen and Flagg while Queen and Flagg didn't have that overlap. I think McNeeley is closer to Queen than Flagg so that pair is more likely to have their decisions have some influence on each other. McNeeley and Queen made many visits together, including both IU OV.

So does that mean Queen is out of play for us, because I was under the impression he and McNeeley had talked about playing together...

I think they've talked about it and would like to play together but they've never been a package deal so I think they'll make independent decisions. That said, landing McNeeley certainly wouldn't hurt in the Queen recruitment.

No info, but my theory is that he's been relegated to the end of the bench for so long, he may be resolved to stay there.

But then again, there are other ways to "step up" for your team. I don't think you could ask for a better teammate than Anthony.

For his sake, I hope he does a grad transfer to a school where he gets lots of playing time. He still has his Covid year left after this one.

I doubt he uses that year. I don't think he'll transfer because he's already working as a real estate agent around Bloomington. I think he'll concentrate on that.
