I get it, but he inherited a team that struggled with shooting. In three offseasons, he's brought in one transfer who had any reputation as a shooter (Kopp) and none were guards (XJ only guard transfer). We'll see if that changes in year 4.

part of that was shooting for the moon and coming up 5' short. We went toe to toe with some of the big dogs, which is encouraging. reset the sites and build from there.

I agree. You can knock him for having a bad roster. That is a legit beef. But the style of play is based on the guys on the floor.  His best player last year was TJD. His best players this year were Ware and Reneau. Not too many teams could stop either 1 on 1.  It would make no sense for this year's IU team to jack up 30 3's a game. If he has no shooters again this year or has shooters but offense still sucks...

But the main reason was because of the roster more than style of play. For them to play "modern" basketball this year, Ware and Reneau would both only play 5.  MM at 4, TG at 3, AL or CJ at 2 and Cupps at one. The problem is 1, 2 & 3 - can't or don't shoot or score consistently. Had to go to the double post again to get the best players on the floor. Watch the NBA (modern basketball). It's inside out. Teams try to score underneath, if they can't, they kick it out (quickly). The key is who you are kicking it out to has to be able to drain the open three. They definitely need to shoot more threes but in reality they just need to make more.

We will find out a lot this year.

Why not? Trey wasn’t a starter until this year. Perkins had about a 4:1 assist to turnover ratio. I don’t want a SG who can’t shoot but I’ll take a PG with a 4:1 assist to turnover all day, one that can defend and get to the rim. When fouled makes FT’s at a good clip.

    that with a 33% 3pt

I think Woody knows he has to make some changes. And I think the inside out comment it’s getting taken way way way overboard. I’m watching the NCAA games and I’m seeing a ton of inside play. But there are shooters with the post players. Also athleticism in droves in the backcourt. I could definitely see us playing small ball some this year. See how the roster pans out.

What about Leland Walker then? And if Perkins is playing off ball like some have mentioned, then 3 shooting is not going to be improved whatsoever based on Perkins history. Not to beat a dead horse but IU needs shooting!! I am fine with bringing in tough nosed, not turnover prone PGs, but then we've got to 100% bring in some cold stone killer shooters.

33% career 3pt shooter that can get to the rim, bull dog defender, distributer, creator, solid rebounder from the 1 or Jack Gohlke 37% 3pt shooter that just shoots 3s and and is a below average defender?

I see Perkins as more of a 2, kjnda like a more consistent version of Galloway...He can play the point, and did a lot for the Hawkeyes, but I just think he's more comfortable playing off the ball...

If Thornton becomes available, by all means for the one...

The Mack kid was pretty impressive against us...Sure, give him a look...

And I'm just gonna throw this name out there...Kanye Clary...The kid can play...I think there was some really hard feelings over Clary staying when Rhoades came on, then Rhoades switching to Ace Baldwin and staying with him when Clary got injured...Here's a comparison between Clary, Baldwin, and Mack...

    image.png.265213a0a7752ece50dc63d1ad0be46b.png

Just something to consider...I don't think his dismissal from the team indicates that he's a bad apple...He just thought he got screwed coming off the injury...Stuff happens...But he's an immensely talented kid...

yes and yes. My only thing is T Perk is a couple ticks below behind the arc where I would want as my off ball 2. I had a couple other names like Clary, but it didnt feel right having T Perk down at 7 so i am going to tiers.

    1) Malik Mack

    2) Thornton, Dug McDaniel (hoping his issues with Michigan don't carry) type of player. Younger, good, quick, shot creator, distributor, 33%+ 3pt

    3) Clary, Pegues type of player.  high volume scorer shoots 36-38% 3pt

    4) T Perk.

I still don't feel right about this, but this is the best 4th option I can think of ever (unless @Zlinedavid 4th option was the Purdue cheerleader). I would still take him now if he wanted. I would play him at the 1.

Obviously there's no danger in his job but besides our friends in West Lafayette has any other team or program performed worse with being seeded so high each year in past few seasons?

I always thought Kansas was a big dog with little bite. I mean for everything they have accomplished with the 20 some Big 12 championships in a row and always seemingly seeded 1-4, they hadnt done much up until the ship 2 years ago.

Mine was about the same size, and I was thinking, if you added up every person I attended high school with (3 classes above, 3 classes below), I still don't think you'd get to 2000

average class was about 100 for me. Mine was 94. So 7 years wouldn't even make 1,000.

With the composition of our team currently, the former, but I understand why you pose that question.  I don't want another season MR dribbling into double and triple teams because he doesn't have the confidence to throw it out to someone behind the arc that can make a shot.

    fair.

second player is a little lower than i'd like at 3pt%. Career he's 32%.

I'd prefer a versatile player that shoots 32%-33% from three than a stand on the arch and shoots 38%. There's only 37 kids in all of D-1 that shot 40% and above

With all due respect, we don't need further clogging inside of the arc.  We need spacing and three point threats.  This is the exact opposite of what we need outside of the length on the defensive side. We need the 4 and 1 offense that was promised to us by Woody.

    Who would you rather have:

    13.1 pts, 38 3pt%, 4.1 rebs, 78.5 FT%, 1.1 Ast sits on arc, below average defender

    14.0 pts, 30 3pt%, 4.4 rebs, 78.8 FT% 4.6 Ast gets to the rim and a bulldog defender

We are not dealing in fantasy or hopeium here. We have history behind us. Until a good product is on the floor let's put the over blown hopeium aside and be more realistic. Every year, it's...we have so and so, and so and so, we're going to have a good team, etc. The constant is the coach who walked out on the team and blamed them for the losses.

Dont even know what you're referring to hopeium. No one is shooting rainbows and sunshine up peoples asses here. It the opposite.

Yes history says 2/3 tourney appearances. Over blown...!? the only thing over blown is that IU is a catastrophe.

If you cant get a little hyped up about bryson committing, I dont know what to tell you, but there is no hope. Not for IU, but for you.
