  1. No introductions would be my guess, but somehow the fans always know and the chants make it very clear.
  2. When you hear Boogie Fland speak you instantly know he's a leader. The kid can play but he makes others better, and that's next level talent. Liam M brings that same type of leadership quality. If this the trend at IU, I see a lot of Ws on the horizon.
  3. Inevitable. Money rules. Struggling to see how traveling coast to coast helps B1G teams. Scheduling will be ridiculous.
  4. Reeves enrolled at one school returns to his old school? How many schools can you attend at one time? The saying, "we want volunteers, not hostages" comes to mind. This looks like a powder keg waiting to blow up if things go off the rails.
  5. So much change in a short amount of time due to the portal and NIL. IU, and specifically CMW, has revived the program. Still a long way to go. We eat first university begging for scraps to fill out a roster. They will have talent in that freshmen class, but little experience. Make or break year? Could be.
  6. Barring a substantial upgrade, I'd be fine with them pocketing the open scholarship. I certainly wouldn't want them to lock into a mediocre player for 2 or more seasons after seeing what they can do in the portal. That scholarship is worth more than a two or three star player that brings little to the table. Plus, I'd like to see what Banks and CJ can do after another summer under their belts.
  7. Oscar T staying in the draft. Sounds like uk fans are about done with Cal. They still have the #1 recruiting class and a chance to keep two yet to decide if they are staying or leaving. If both leave it'll be freshmen on parade. I suppose there's still some talent out there looking for a team. This seems to be a turning point season for Cal. Pull on a great run and uk fans will have him put in the HOF a second time. A poor season or early end in the big dance, they'll burn Lexington to the ground.
  8. Another selling point with a former NBA and college player (star) who has recently been in the league as a coach.
  9. If 30+ min is his expectation he won't be at IU. And if IU needs him to play 30+ per game, they aren't as deep or good as we hope. It's going to be difficult to find quality that's about team and winning, at this point. Maybe someone withdraws from the draft that warrants 30+ per game consideration. Or one of those international (virtually a pro) guys that comes out of knowhere.
  10. I'm wondering when IU will start getting in on these international kids like Arizona. Basically pros.
  11. Wouldn't that be something if Caleb Love lands in Bloominton? Im not sure he's a great fit. So much has been said about his time at UNC and not all of it is good. Still, a great talent. I'll trust CMWs judgement. He won't bring someone in that's going to blow up the team.
  12. X, TG, MM, Malik and Ware would be my projected starters. More important than the starters is rotation and how they match up when good teams go small. Do you take Ware or Malik off the floor?
  13. Galloway is likely to start because CMW likes starting older guys, likes his level of effort, and cherishes the defensive side of the ball. Trey's shot improved to being respectable meaning defenses can't leave him alone and he can get to the rim. He's going to start barring injury. I also believe if Galloway doesn't have to run point his game will continue to rise. His defense should be more disruptive again next season because he won't have to worry about staying on the court to get the ball up the court and set the offense. Last season made him a better and more complete player and he will prove it next season.
  14. Watching CMW shrink the bench in each of his first two seasons makes me wonder if it's smart to add anyone else. As it is, I'm wondering if someone like Gunn, Newton, or Cupps may redshirt this season. Adding someone now has to bring a missing element but it has to be at a high level. Physical point guard with a great handle and D, ok. Scorer/shooter who can defend also works. A great shot blocker who can rebound maybe. Adding a 32% three point shooter with limited skills for everything else, no thanks. Frankky, adding another player that is just adequate means they don't have much faith in some of the guys currently on the team. I'd hate for them to push Banks and/or Gunn out for one season of a limited rental player.
  15. Noticed one comment where he suggests he may be able to start. I take that to mean he was not promised a starting spot, which says a lot about him and CMW. You earn your time on the court at IU. My guess is he will start and play big minutes from day one. He's got that level of talent.
  16. Congrats to MM and his family. Great job CMW and the coaching staff. Another sign IU is continuing to climb back into relevance. No way MM, JHS, Malik, or Ware show up in Bloomington under the previous leadership. Now show us a run in the tournament. MM almost guaranteed to be one and done. Really hoping Banks develops and becomes the hidden gem over the next season. Things looking good for IU. Would not be surprised if they add one more surprise that makes the team better.
  17. This is where the recruiting 'experts' have to start preparing to change their predictions in order to maintain their accuracy percentage. Complete jokes, every one of them. Swindlers is the more accurate term. It should irk anyone who pays for their insights that we will all know the result at the same time.
  18. The new hyper free agency in the college game is untenable. I give it another season or two of insane bidding and teams imploding season to season before something is changed. As for the kids in this moment, you can't blame them. If you're MM, let the bidding war continue. His options really depend on what his priorities are all about. If it's money - highest bid wins. If it's being on tv on the biggest stage maybe kansas is the safe bet but he will have to beat out others to get on the floor. If it's playing time he can be a big fish in a small pond with the 'ville but not sure the tourney/big tv stage is waiting for them this season. Close to home - St Johns will take him and he gets playing time. Not going to win much. IU can offer a bit of all options. Playing time, money, tv, NBA coach, and facilities are all available. He could be a big reason why they make the tourney. It's all perspective and who's in the kid's ear.
  19. CMW tired of being undersized against virtually every conf team and any legit title contender.
  20. X changes things for IU, if healthy. He's a super senior who is physically strong and has the quickness needed to get by people. IU does not have a lot of guys who can go by someone off the dribble. He's a good defender when he doesn't foul and although he's a streak shooter from outside he can heat up. He also brings an attitude. More than anything he can run the show. You can give him the ball and he'll get it up the court and into the offense. Takes a lot of pressure of the rest of the guards. Now Trey can just be Trey and the experience he received last season should make him that much better next season. The two together may not be an offensive power but that's a strong defensive group when they keep the other team's guards out of the lane. X allows CMW to keep more guys in their normal positions and that helps.
  21. Kids keep going into the portal, so you never know. IU may find a gem late in the process. Still, there has to be other considerations on the table including.... * If no dynamic scorer or shooter is available, find a defensive specialist or someone with quickness and a handle. Jamal Meeks never averaged more than 4 points in a season but he did his job and helped the team. Even if you add a player just skilled enough to allow everyone else to play their natural position, it makes the team better. * Reclass options for next season. No undersized players though. They have to have the physical tools to help next season. * The easiest answer is to develop the current players. I'm looking for a big jump for Banks that may be exactly what they need next season. Gunn has the quickness and a scorers mindset. He just needs to bulk up. I'd like to see Leal get a chance to be the spot up shooter from three.
  22. Not losing any sleep over Ledlum going another route. It was a hope he could help but there was no guarantee. Not sure there are any big time scorers/shooters out there with IU interest now but kids are still jumping in the portal daily. I'd be just as happy if they added a defensive specialist. You can't have enough of them if your team struggles to score. It may be that IU will have to go with what they have now. Opportunity for some to shine that may be overlooked. If you can't score at a high level you need to dominate defensively and on the boards. Winning ugly is still winning.
  23. I believe IU will add at least one more transfer but if they don't they still have a solid team. It will just be a different team than what we've become accustomed to since TJD arrived. A front court that goes 6'9 235, 6'9 240. and 7'0 210 is a good start and my guess is those numbers will change by the time the season gets here. Yes, there are still lots of question about this group but they have the size to compete. Adding another big, at this point, would be gravy. PG is under control if X is eligible and healthy. I trust X, Gabe and Trey to get the ball up the court and set the offense. Just switching out Tamar for Gabe is a huge upgrade in terms of ball handling and passing. That's not a knock on Tamar. He was never meant to be a PG and ball handling is a weakness he has to improve regardless of where he ends up. Bottom line - IU improved a great deal vs the press as the season went on and they'll be better next season. That leaves what I'll refer to as the wings, which is everyone else. I don't see a classic shooting guard right now. I do see several guys with a lot of potential and varying skills. Trey is the closest to being what is needed after knocking down 46% of his threes, cutting down his turnovers, and still playing good defense. He will be on the floor as much as possible. The guy that may be the breakout star is Kaleb Banks. At 6'7 200 with some bounce and a nice shot he could be a scoring option and a match up problem for opponents. I'm not counting out CJ Gunn being a scoring threat off the bench and if he fills out over the summer he's got the quickness and size to be a two way threat as the game slows down for him. Leal should get a chance to prove he needs more playing time. The freshman have skills and could provide much needed depth. The point is, whether they add anyone else or not this IU team has talent. A few weeks ago we were worried they'd have nothing inside. They addressed that in a big way. It may take them the majority of next season to figure it all out but overall it could be the most complete team they've had offensively and defensively in many seasons.
  24. The NCAA is desperate to appear they still have some semblance of control and remain relevant. They will agree to anything at this point. Eventually it will go so far they won't be able to do anything about it. That leaves it up to the schools to end the madness. That won't happen until the elites get burned enough to make it not worth the effort. Today we have schools in bidding wars with unreal dollar amounts in play.We are seeing cases of 'none and done' players. The portal is out of control. In some cases virtually entire teams are leaving when the season is over. Next step - no requirement to go to class? It's looking a lot like the beginning of the end for college sports.
  25. Who's the primary scorer as it stands today? Adding Ware is a huge get but I'm not expecting him to put up 18-20 a game anytime soon. X? Malik? Trey? Not seeing it. CMW better find a scorer he can count on or turn into the most dominate defensive team in the country and hope someone steps up.
