  1. At this point, they either add a post presence (recruit or portal) or go to a four guard lineup next season.
  2. Obvious fixes - start with Tamar, TG and JHS picking up their dribble 24+ feet out.
  3. Take the win and hope they figure some things out when they return. Not sure they have an identity. The defense of late is not what they were. TJD out makes a huge difference. Offense is now perimeter/guard dominant and that's not been a strength. D has to become more sound and offense has to be much more efficient or conf play will be ugly. Rebounding needs to be a priority. At some point CMW hands the keys to JHS and hopes for the best.
  4. Bates has the physical tools to be a strong defender but he was out of position several times last night and has struggled all season get to the right guy on D. He is not the same defensive presence Galloway is, but certainly a better offensive threat when he plays under control.
  5. Nothing positive as it relates to improved play. They got the W and nobody was hurt, so that's the good news. Other than that it was more ugly play in a win over a weak opponent regardless of who was on a court.
  6. Less than stellar performance for the first half. At this point in the season they shouldn't be completely lost on D as often as they are. Not understanding the switch leaving the other team open for multiple wide open threes. They also should be getting easy and open shots more often than not just by running their offense. Not happening consistently. A lot of improvement needed if they want to compete in conference. Maybe they clean it up in the second half.
  7. The next two games serve one purpose - to demonstrate this team can run their offense to get open shots. They can easily win these next two games based on the talent difference alone. CMW should make it about playing good basketball, players being in the right positions, running an offense to get open looks, and overall execution. If all they do is out run and out jump the next two teams they will have missed the opportunities given to them to refocus before conference play. If they win by 30 but in ugly fashion where they are careless with the ball and waste possessions, we will know nothing has changed.
  8. When your house crumbles to the ground you can move on or rebuild. IU Basketball has no choice but to rebuild and it has to start with a firm foundation of defense. Practice should determine who starts and who gets minutes. No more locked in starters. You earn your time on the floor and you earn it playing defense like your life depends on it. CMW needs a quick hook for anyone out of position or costing them on D. What about offense? Well, does it matter if you get torched on D? Reset the season by dominating on D and crashing the boards.
  9. If you are shocked you haven't been paying attention. If you are writing off the season you're overreacting. If you are frustrared you are not alone. A lot can happen between December and March.
  10. It will take a whole team effort to get by Kansas on their court but it will take a bigger effort from TJD to assert himself on both ends of the court. Everyone understands he will be doubled more often than not the rest of the season, but that's nothing new to him or any quality big. CMW needs to help him out by finding ways to get him the ball and making it an emphasis. Since the UNC game (16 shots) he's had 11, 6 and 10 field goal attempts. That's not going to work. So, if they can't game plan it with Xs and Os to get more shots/better shots he's going to have to be a monster on the glass and get out in transition to get some easy ones.
  11. I am hopeful. Now they know where the bar is set if they want to compete for the title. And for the future CMW can see the kind of size and skill they will be needed. Having TJD is great and he is a tremendous college player. But he struggles scoring over elite size and has no jumper to go to. That's the thorn in his side. But add a true center with size similar to AZ and you wonder how much better TJD could have been. Sadly we will not see that for TJD. Even though they lost they found ways to fight back until the end when it really got away. JHS would of helped but not sure it changes the outcome. Win vs Kansas and suddenly things start ooking a lot better. Its another shot at a signature win and on the road. Let's hope they can grow up and learn from these last two losses.
  12. Agreed, they kept fighting. But it was up hill all the way. At no point did it feel like IU would take the lead. Measurement game #2. Outcome = Not good enough. The room for error is slim against really good teams. Can't waste possessions, can't brick the first 7 or so threes, and gotta get on the boards. There are some positives but defensively they had few answers. That's there strength and it was not enough. Finally, TJD could have used a jumper tonight. Could have drawn their size away and opened some lanes. Four seasons to get at least a mid range jumper and nothing to show for it. The team may regret it this season as much as he will in the future because every team in the NBA has more size than AZ.
  13. Size and speed noticeably in AZ favor. IU in a constant scramble on D and cannot catch up to the ball. Race and TJD still struggle to score over size. Three point shooting as a team is a mess. AZ has sped them up into forced shots. And Tamar should not take more than two dribbles before passing or shooting. If IU can't get on the boards it's going to be ugly.
  14. Wasted possessions and the wrong guys trying to make plays they can't make. X in foul trouble early is a killer. Not smart ball. They are not going to get calls tonight.need to stop looking at tye refs. Run through TJD inside and let him be the point forward.

  16. Another measure game. Rebounding and not wasting possessions is key. Expect the TJD double team. Let's see how many layups and open looks they get out of it. Tamar - can he get to open shots and knock them down against a better opponent? Also, I believe he can go harder on D and rebounding. I'm not sure I've ever seen Tamar sweat in a game. Doesn't mean anything other than I wonder if he holds back too much.
  17. Good win over a team you cannot sleep on. Nice to see some shots falling for some of these guys (Trey and Tamar). TJD with one of the most complete games ever played by an IU player. I thought Tamar and Miller played D about as well as I've seen them play it. Trey playing his usual D. Still, there is cause for concern. Most teams are going to double and triple team TJD from here on out. What I'm seeing is IU relying on the three pointer to overcome this, which does make sense, but not sure you can call three point shooting a team strength just yet. Over the past two games IU is shooting a lot more threes than free throws - that's a problem. Rutgers game: 25 threes attempted (6 of 25) and 14 free throws attempted Nebraska game: 25 threes attempted (11 of 25) and 8 free throws attempted. Yep, 8. My guess is teams are willing to take that gamble until IU proves they can hit a high level of threes going forward. There were possessions last night where IU moved the ball until the defense was scrambling and got some layups out of it. That has to be a bigger part of this offense and of course JHS would really help in that regard. If they want to double and triple TJD, IU needs to be able to move the ball and get easy shots and still get to the line. That means more of Race, JG, and others moving along the baseline and flashing for layups. More of Trey, X, JHS and others getting to the lane for jumpers and creating for others. The other concerns is the offensive fouls on drives. There should have been two or three technical fouls on Nebraska for flopping and I'm getting the feeling IU is one of the few teams that will not get the home whistle in conference play. No techs given. No warnings given as far as I could tell. If that's the case IU has to get better at the drive.
  18. Nebraska defense? Fall down. Seems to be working.
  19. Not sure why Kopp feels the need to rush into a three in transition where he doesn't get fully squared up and feet set. He will get plenty of shots if they just run the offense. IU can't get calls at home? The blocking foul on Trey not even close and then compare to Kopp charge in the first half. Something is not right.
  20. IU needs this win to erase the last game. Get the defense turned up and not waste possessions on offense.
  21. IU basketball was on full display last night. If they were wondering what IU basketball would be like, now they know. By all accounts the fans were electric and the Hall was loud and rockin' Hard to imagine they will see a better atmosphere for college basketball. Top it off with a very fun game where IU dominated and the players appeared to be having a lot of fun.
  22. CMW had them ready. Great win. Gotta keep the defensive intensity but cut down some of the fouls. The bench did their job. Last season UNC would have taken the lead on the bench. Not this season. Keep it up. Go Hoosiers!
  23. I'd say that's a challenge from Hubie. Send UNC out of the ACC/B1G Challenge with an L and a new respect for what a home court can be.
  24. Measurement game. This one will show where they excel and where improvement is needed. A win doesn't guarantee future success and a loss doesn't mean the season is over. Should be a good game.
  25. Another dominate performance with lots of contributors. Nice to see Bates with a big game. The one drawback, rebounding. Granted TJD and Race did not play big minutes, but you can't let teams get on the offensive glass like today. Need to clean that up quick. Hopefully TJD is 100% going forward.
