So you could be a 1A team competing against a 4A team during the regular season, but it’s split up come tournament time?

Usually conferences are confined to one or two classes, though it's not prohibited from being 3 or 4.  But, schools that much different in enrollment probably do not want to be in conferences together given the choice.

Explain, to this Kentucky guy, how two teams from the same conference can win titles in different classes. Are conferences just determined by location, doesn’t matter class?

The Mid-Southern, the conference in question, has 9 teams.  6 are in Class 3A.  3 are in Class 2A.  Classes are based on enrollment. Conference alignment is not class dependent to allow for teams that move up or fall in enrollment.

  3. David Bell pinch hits Nick Martini in the 8th.  Perfect.  Martini hits a 2 run double.  Puts the Reds up by 2.  Then, he proceeds to do what may be the most idiotic managerial move I've ever seen.  He doesn't let Martini stay in the game to play right field.  Rather, he puts Jake Fraley into the game into Martini's spot in the batting order.  That's Jake Fraley, your last left-handed bat left on the bench.  That's Jake Fraley, your best clutch hitter last year, who now has virtually no chance whatsoever to bat in the 9th if you need him against the Nats Right-Handed closer.  Of course, we now know what happens.  Diaz blows the lead and the Reds don't have Fraley's bat available unless they go 8 hitters deep in the 9th.

That's ignorant.  Martini is an outfielder.  He easily could have stayed in the game after his pinch hit.  Just unreal.

    Boom. Scottsburg gets the W.

2 state titles in the same conference.

I came on here to ask you.  Do you know if that's ever been done in the same year?

    Congrats to the Braves.

My son and I had planned on going to all the sessions today,   But, I was sick Thursday and Friday.  Felt better today, but needed to get my lawn mowed since I couldn't do it the previous two days.

But using 6 HoFs has to be worth bonus points somewhere...Right? ;)

I used 4 Hall of Famers and a 5th that would have been if not for a gambling addiction.  It's amazing how little the younger crowd know about baseball history.

And, it pays to be a fan of a small market team.  While I can use 5 Reds and score low if I used 5 Yankees, I'm hitting high score on several of these categories.

    <—— 2nd place 🤷🏽‍♂️

Actually, 'Jake's Astonishing Bracket' is in second.  We don't have a 'Jake' on here.  I think if that bracket wins because UConn beats Purdue in the final, the championship trophy should be given to the 2nd place team.  In that scenario, that would be me.

And people wonder why I think Ravech, Perez, and Cone are terrible...

I'm indifferent to Ravech and Cone, but I think Perez is really, really good.  In my opinion, his insight is near the top of analysts.  I listen to the MLB channel on satellite radio on the way to work.  Perez is on a lot in the mornings and I prefer him to any of the others that they rotate into that morning show.

I am wondering who you picked to win it all.  UConn, Houston, and (..er) Auburn all looked well positioned.  My guts says UConn to repeat but there's an interesting tidbit that I've been looking at.  I call it the "Cradle of Champions" and its the box w/in Sector 1.  9 of the 15 champions shown came from that box.  Both Auburn and Houston this year were in it.  Of course, only Houston remains.  In total, there have been 37 teams that fit in that box.  Excluding this year's Houston, 1/4 of those teams have won the title, 1/3 play in the finals, 44% make the final four, and 2/3 the elite eight.  Factoring that in, it would be hard to bet against Houston or (...er) Auburn.

I picked UConn.  The strategy I used when two team were in the same tier was to pick the team closest to the tier line in front of them.  When I got to the Final 4 and everyone was Tier 1, without another tier 'in front', I sided with Offense over Defense.  So, my Final Four matchups were UConn over Arizona and Purdue over Houston, with UConn winning over the Boilers in a close one.

TW was what I thought of, as well... TW was WAY MORE REFINED than this kid, at this age, IMO---- but Blazi is 1-2 inches taller, but TW's wingspan, somehow was only 6'8. This kids is 7'2.

Was able to read part of this post without my reading glasses.  Increasing my carrot intake must be working.  :coffee:

Here's how the field looks going into the Sweet 16.   Sector 1 has 31.25% of the remaining field (historically makes up 24.6% of the S16), 31.25% also for Sector 2 (historically contains 42.9% of S16 teams), only 12.5% are from Sector 3 (historically 20.8%), and a robust 25% from Sector 4 (historically only contains 10% of S16 teams).  All the remaining Sector 4 teams have "championship-level" offenses (all better than 3 champions since '08) but have suboptimal defenses.  In fact, all the remaining teams except for San Diego State could be considered "championship-level" offenses.  Defensively though, there is clearly a divide.  In general, it's safe to say that "championship-level" defense could be defined as an aDE of 94 or less (that would leave only 1 outlier champion - the 2018 Villanova team that had the best offense of any tourney team since '08).  Using that definition, the remaining team with "championship-level" defense would include UConn, Arizona, Houston, UNC, Tennessee, Iowa State, and San Diego State (listed in order of best to worst offense).  Purdue's offense is amongst the all-time elite (5th best amongst tourney teams since '08) and their defense falls just between "championship-level" and 2018's Villanova's team, so it would be unreasonable to discount them as well.  I would suspect that given the quality of offenses left in the field, the defensive liabilities of the non-"championship-level" defenses will be exposed and lead to their elimination.

I picked every game of the tournament based on this data.  It resulted in me missing out on some of the early round upsets, but I am set up very well from here on out.  People that picked teams like UK to got to the Final Four would have benefitted from looking at this information.

I'm throwing this in here just because most eyes. So last night at Carmel baseball some kids parent or parents rented a plan and had a banner flying over the game saying Carmel Baseball is Daddy Ball.

On one hand it's not the first time parents get ticked over playing time for either favorites or perceived favorites. On the other hand....only at Carmel would a parent rent or use their own plane to do this move.

I take it the coach has a son or two on the team?  Regardless, that's ridiculous.

Happy Opening Day to all who celebrate! My first game was pushed back to tomorrow.

I'm legit sick and stayed home from work today.  Thought to myself that there are worse days to be out sick than Opening Day.  Plant myself in front of TV and watch baseball.  Then I find out that the 1 o'clock games are rained out. What a cruel joke.
