  1. That’s good to hear. Makes sense, as in my metric that is results-only, they are #67.
  2. To get our minds off basketball for a minute, here is my top 25 baseball computer rankings through yesterday's (3/19) games: 1 Virginia 2 LSU 3 Old Dominion 4 South Carolina 5 Kentucky 6 Wake Forest 7 Kent 8 UCLA 9 West Virginia 10 North Carolina 11 Campbell 12 Northeastern 13 Duke 14 Connecticut 15 Iowa 16 Boston College 17 Alabama 18 Texas Tech 19 Virginia Tech 20 William & Mary 21 East Carolina 22 Rutgers 23 UC Santa Barbara 24 NC State 25 St John's Big 10 rankings: 15 Iowa 22 Rutgers 31 Ohio St 40 Nebraska 48 Illinois 64 Maryland 77 Purdue 80 Penn St 86 Indiana 89 Michigan St 166 Michigan 240 Minnesota 293 Northwestern
  3. Here's wondering if Bilas, who picked his alma mater for the Final Four, will have similar scathing words for Duke as he had for Purdue.
  4. Not sure I’ve ever seen a team put their opponent in the bonus before making a field goal.
  5. “Banners don’t matter” is boilerspeak for “we have no banners.” And by the way, the edge Purdue accumulated in head-to-head is older and dustier than any of the banners.
  6. Would love to see that. Also would be nice if the Big Ten Network would televise more baseball (and softball) games. Seems like they're missing an opportunity to do more with those sports.
  7. I can’t either. My wife’s taught a couple great ones from our high school, but they ended up going to Texas Tech and Mississippi State, lol.
  8. Agree. Makes our trip to the College World Series even sweeter. Just an amazing accomplishment.
  9. I put them in the IU Baseball 2023 thread.
  10. Since there seemed to be some interest, I will post a computer-generated college baseball top 25 and Big 10 rankings, hopefully each Monday. As an alternative to the RPI, which it appears is still used for baseball, these rankings will be my version of a more predictive KenPom, NET, or Sagarin type ranking (my basketball rankings are very close to NET and KenPom). They take into account scores, but there is also a result-based metric as part of the calculation. There are no "pre-season ratings" included with these, it only includes results from this season, so keep that in mind that it is early in the season and there may be some strange results until more data is added as the season goes along. With that being said, here is the first top 25, through and including yesterday's games. 1 Virginia 2 LSU 3 South Carolina 4 Virginia Tech 5 Wake Forest 6 UCLA 7 NC State 8 Northeastern 9 Boston College 10 Mississippi 11 Washington St 12 Kentucky 13 Alabama 14 Wofford 15 UC Santa Barbara 16 Texas Tech 17 Florida 18 Duke 19 Louisville 20 Tennessee 21 East Carolina 22 Old Dominion 23 Texas A&M 24 Arizona 25 Oregon St Here are the national rankings for Big 10 teams (there are 305 Div. I teams): 29 Iowa 33 Nebraska 39 Rutgers 53 Illinois 54 Ohio St 60 Maryland 65 Purdue 100 Indiana 116 Michigan St 117 Penn St 185 Michigan 221 Minnesota 297 Northwestern The Big 10 ranks as the 7th best conference right now behind the SEC, ACC, PAC-12, Big 12, Big West, and Mountain West.
  11. Just curious since this seems to be the most active IU baseball board that I know of....I produce computer rankings for college sports similar to KenPom, Sagarin, and the NET (I don't have them anywhere online yet). I know there is still an RPI for college baseball, but wondering if anyone would be interested in me posting a NET or KenPom-like more predictive ranking for college baseball maybe once a week...like maybe a national Top 25 and Big Ten rankings. Happy to do it if there is any interest. If not, that is OK too.
  12. Another win today, 3-2. Game ended with the tying run on 3rd.
  13. I'm not arguing whether we'll be a 4 or a 5, because I have no idea. But just FYI, the NET is not the NCAA's primary ranking tool. It is "a sorting tool." That's why Tennessee won't be a 1 seed even though they're ranked #4 in the NET. And my guess is there will be a team ranked #67 that will make the tournament, and a team ranked #27 left out.
  14. I know, and they beat Cathedral twice by about that much, including last night, if I'm not mistaken. I haven't seen national rankings, but they have to be one of the best teams in the country, correct?
  15. Yes, I don't know that anybody's on the same level with Ben Davis. Or Cathedral, and probably Penn.
  16. Yes, they're having a good tournament and playing well at the right time. And to be honest, not to insult anybody's schools who may read this, there were some pretty weak sectional and regional fields here.
  17. They can certainly play with them on a good day. I watched Carroll hang with Carmel for 3 quarters during the regular season (and they led Carmel at halftime). But that's a very impressive win for the SAC in what I feel was a bit of a down year for the conference.
  18. I'll say a 4 seed vs. Iona. Rick Pitino vs. IU one more time. Two former Knick coaches battling it out. Can't resist that matchup, lol.
  19. Beat Bellarmine 13-3.
  20. One thing I can pass along for certain….PFW is not good.
  21. Hope you’re feeling better soon. My wife just had the same thing. It’s spreading like wildfire. Wash hands vigorously, guys.
  22. Don’t remember if I posted this here or another board, but for us older guys, he reminds me of Shawn Kemp in high school. For those who remember, while there was no denying his athleticism, the knock in Kemp in high school was “all he can do is dunk.” As Mike Woodson would say, “he turned out just fine.”
  23. Kokomo’s coach. Big Purdue fan. Played for and coached under Fife at IPFW and still good friends with him.
  24. Not sure how a coach with a blending of Sampson, Hakeem, and Ewing going beast mode can win COTY to be honest. Northwestern just has mere mortals on the floor.
