  1. What I really like about CJ is his athleticism and aggressiveness. His put back dunk the other night may have been the highlight of the year so far. We need more of that, and he seems fearless on the court. Granted, only a small sample against lesser opponents, but I like what I’ve seen so far.

I don't think he's an extended mins guy at all right now.. there might be 5-6 mins worth of use out of him a game, currently though.. because it does seem he has a tendency to "make shit happen"...

He needs to play his role offensively, though.

In my original post I said I was ”excited about his potential”

  3. As much as I hate losing XJ, I feel good about turning the team over to JHS, and we might actually be a better team by tournament time. He’s shown he’s more than capable to take over at point guard, and Bates and Gunn will get more playing time to build confidence in their roles. I’m really excited about Gunn’s potential - he’s a good defender, can score at all 3 levels and is fearless on offense and defense. And of course, Galloway is the prototypical 6th man. Throw in Geronimo, Banks and Duncombe and that’s an impressive bench to go along with TJD, Race, and Kopp. The only missing piece is consistency and attitude, and that’s CMW’s job to get that straight.

I'm not up on my podiatry, but it would seem after almost 2 1/2 days they'd at least know sprain vs break, wouldn't they?

Not a doctor either, but I believe sometimes it’s difficult to see hairline fractures until swelling goes down.

Let me ask you this, what did you think our record would be at this point of the season.

Best case 10-1, worst case 8-3, but it’s not so much the record, but the way we lost and Rutgers was not one I thought we would lose.

The calendar said it was December of 2001. Fresh off losses to Marquette, Southern Illinois, Miami, Kentucky, and  Butler everyone on Peegs said cancel the season. Total loss. Sure glad the boards don't dictate a season.

If these things were happening in early March gang I get it but let's some development go on. Kind of like last year. Nobody was playing better in our conference at BTT. Just let it ride itself out. Not saying some along the way micro discussion isn't warranted but big picture....3 months of hoops/development is a long time.

Wish I could be that optimistic and I’m not giving up on the season, but with four upperclassmen starters (TJD, Thompson, Johnson and Kopp) development shouldn’t be an issue. If they haven’t developed by now, we’re in real trouble - just sayin.

I think the idea of benching some guys in a game like Tuesday is intriguing, not a tactic you see much anymore but I don’t hate it if that’s what coach decides to do. I’m just not sure I could pick out five guys who deserve to start based on the Kansas game.

That would be tough…it was a total team effort in poor play.

  8. 23 turnovers on the road, and giving up 10 offensive rebounds says it all. We played in panic mode all game long. Woodson has a lot of work to do.

On a positive note at least we broke 50 pts, and the season is still young. Forget about rankings and get back to work. TJD is going to be double/triple teamed the rest of the season, so we better figure out how to take advantage that.

  9. I watched Arizona on the road against Utah and they looked average at best. Vegas was like a home game for them, and they gave us their best shot early on, and we didn’t match their intensity. I know it’s easy to say, but we have to be ready from the opening tip, and not dig ourselves a 19 point hole and expect to come back against good teams like Arizona.

I actually think we had a 1 or 2 rebound edge at half.  Ended up losing the boards by 10.

Defensing the 3 is absolutely a problem.  Even in games we have won where the other team has a poor percentage, it's more that they missed open shots than anything we did.

Arizona had 16 offensive rebounds…won’t win against good teams allowing that.

  11. It’s obvious we need to continue to work on our rebounding and defending the 3pt line. Too many offensive rebounds and open looks from 3. We’re a good team, but not quite there yet. Getting JHS back will help in both areas. On the positive side we shot 40% from 3. Tamar is looking better each game, and will be a major factor before year’s end. Still think we’re a potential final four team.
