"The Basketball Tournament"
In the past the winning team split a $1M purse. It may be more now.

I will say that we bought our team and there's nothing wrong with it. I will also say that Woody deserved much of the the criticism for the play on the court and bad roster construction last season. I will also say that the false rumors flying around and leaks were straight up trash and an unnecessary low blow.
So, it's time to put up or shut up for the coaching staff. Somebody put up a graph in another thread that said: as our roster stands right now, we have more returning power 6 production than ANY other team in the country. If Hurley had this roster I think many would be projecting us to be National Championship contenders.
But here we are. Many are debating whether we have enough to make the 2nd weekend. I think that says a lot about how much faith fans and CBB analyst's have in Woody's ability to coach at a high level.
I will be rooting for Woody to prove all the naysayers wrong, but he's going to need to accomplish a lot next year to silence all the noise. I don't want to hear any excuses about talent, depth, experience, lack of fundamentals, etc if we underperform, because at that point, the answer should be pretty clear.
We have the pieces. Now we need results.
I’ve been a coach Woodson supporter and believed he deserved a fourth year, but I agree results matter. IMO with next year’s roster we should be a top 10 team and a legit national title contender…so let’s see what happens. Hopefully, it will be a season to remember for all the right reasons.

I hope to see a complete turnaround in our style of play this year. Last year our guard play was subpar to say the least, and was predictable and easy to defend. This year with Rice and Carlyle we should be in attack mode all game long, and they have the talent to get that done. That’s the approach that UConn has used to win back to back championships.

We now have plenty of talent on this team, at all spots. Cupps and Galloway can come off the bench like they should have. This is going to come down to coaching and execution. Can the coaching staff get this team coached up and playing together and can the team execute what the staff wants them to do.
To many time over the last couple years we either haven't been coached well or the players weren't able to execute well enough to succeed.
I will be very disappointed if we're not SIGNIFICANTLY better with the talent we just added to this team.
There will be high expectations next year, and rightfully so. With the MM, MR and TG returning, and the influx of talent coming in, we should expect big things next year. Barring injuries, no excuses.

All right, now that our roster is relativity set, what do we talk about for the next 6 months….starting lineups? That can only go so far…help me out.

Lukin’ Goode in all that IU gear!
That’s quite a roster….probably the most talent we’ve had since Zeller and company.

No, you and others have BEATEN the dead horse. We get it, like 100% we understand they have to produce on the court.
I will repeat... WE UNDERSTAND WINNING THE PORTAL DOES NOTHING IF WE HAVE SUBPAR RESULTS IN THE WINTER!!..
Good now that is established, every single IU fan agrees with that, it just doesn't have to be mentioned multiple times a day across multiple threads.
How many months until the season starts? 😂

I’ll take that…we’ll have the talent to be top 10 team next year, but we have to do it in the court…we’ll see.

I’d go with men’s basketball followed by volleyball.
I’ll give you a “very good” basketball program, but not elite.

Maybe maybe not. TG is going to sit a month or two with his surgery.
Yeah, but if it was just a meniscus repair as reported, he’ll be good to go at the beginning of the season.

Is that Big Ten title and 2nd weekend+ talent in your opinion?
I would hope so.

I agree with this to an extent, but I dont want to rebuild a roster of 6 guys from the portal every year. In state kids especially with the level of talent that Sisley has, are the type to build around and less likely to transfer generally speaking. In state/home connection, with PT, with $$$. No reason to go somewhere else.
This year we have 3-4 starters from the portal. I think we hit homeruns, but I cant see that happening every year. Sisley and Sisley type players would bring a bit more stability.
Yes you could say... what about CJ Gunn. And I would say... well Gallo came back to possibly come off the bench, and Leal came back for 5 minutes a game.
That why I think it’s important to land Goode over Anderson, because he’s an in-state guy. If we have a successful season next year as most expect, he can be a big help recruiting other in-state guys like Sisley.

Out of curiosity: Who would you all rather have? Anderson or Goode? If it's one or the other.
Either one….at this point, whoever commits first.

I only feel better about Goode than Essegian because of the big family connections to IU. His dad and uncle played FB at IU. His brother attends IU right now. His parents apparently have season tix for basketball. And most importantly he wants to attend a business grad school.
But other than that I know nothing - I'm just sitting back and eating popcorn like the rest of us.
Thanks, that really makes me feel better. 🤔

How confident are we that Goode is coming? For some reason I don’t feel good about this…we’ve been fooled by the portal before. Just a few days ago Essegian was a done deal, and look how that turned out.

Filthy disgusting inbreds though they may be, UK is a college basketball blue blood regardless of who is coaching.
To really achieve "blue blood" status means you've achieved a level of success that even being "down" for over a decade doesn't take away the luster or the inherent potential of the program.
Bama football is the perfect example. They went from 1992 to 2010 without a national championship and won only 5 bowl games in that span. But, get the right coach in place and you're reestablished.
To me, there's 7: UCLA, Kentucky, North Carolina, UConn, Duke, Indiana, Kansas. Villanova is right on the cusp, and Louisville could be depending on how you feel about vacated titles. The 2nd tier down has Michigan State, Syracuse, Arizona, Michigan, etc etc. Prominent programs, but haven't quite hit Valhalla just yet.
And yes....UConn is definitely the "new money" blue blood compared to the "old money" traditional programs. But when you have more national titles than Kansas, Indiana and Duke.....you're in the club without question.
I agree, but many would say we’re no longer a blue blood program, but for those doubters it sure looks like we’re poised to reclaim that status.
