Filthy disgusting inbreds though they may be, UK is a college basketball blue blood regardless of who is coaching.

To really achieve "blue blood" status means you've achieved a level of success that even being "down" for over a decade doesn't take away the luster or the inherent potential of the program.

Bama football is the perfect example. They went from 1992 to 2010 without a national championship and won only 5 bowl games in that span.  But, get the right coach in place and you're reestablished.

To me, there's 7: UCLA, Kentucky, North Carolina, UConn, Duke, Indiana, Kansas.  Villanova is right on the cusp, and Louisville could be depending on how you feel about vacated titles.  The 2nd tier down has Michigan State, Syracuse, Arizona, Michigan, etc etc.  Prominent programs, but haven't quite hit Valhalla just yet.

And yes....UConn is definitely the "new money" blue blood compared to the "old money" traditional programs.  But when you have more national titles than Kansas, Indiana and Duke.....you're in the club without question.

I agree, but many would say we’re no longer a blue blood program, but for those doubters it sure looks like we’re poised to reclaim that status.

    The 5 modern blue bloods.

    Aim high young man.

I don’t know if you include Kentucky in that group any longer now that Calipari is gone, and with the mass exodus at Duke, we may be ready to fill the void, with the roster upgrades we’ve made this off-season.

He is, but May is putting together a solid transfer roster. He's added a PG from Auburn, two skilled scoring guards, a stretch 4 and a center who can handle and shoot from the perimeter. Fits how he wants to play.

May is off to a good start, and will have Michigan in the hunt again.

  4. Goode seems like the perfect fit to round out the roster by adding the “shooter” we desperately need. It could also help in recruiting other top in state players which has fallen off in recent years. The rest of the open spots can be filled with solid role players who aren’t looking for a certain amount of minutes, but could benefit by IU’s NIL budget similar to Leal’s situation. Let’s hope we get him…been fooled by the portal before.

Looks like we have 7 guys that could be considered starters.

    Galloway

    Rice

    Carlyle

    Reneau

    MM

    Bello

    Tucker

We will see if tucker is that good or not.

Cupps Newton and Leal are very interesting.  All are very capable of cracking the rotation and playing very meaningful minutes.  We need at least one more big for the rotation.  MM can easily play some 4 and gives this team a lot of flexibility.  We have had flexibility in the roster the last few years.  We finally look like we have quality guard depth.  A big with 3pt range would be nice

With all the talent we’re accumulating, I hope we can finally rebound and defend the 3pt line. How many times over the past couple of years have we been killed by offensive rebounds, and torched from deep by the opposing team? And of course, we need to hit some 3s ourselves on a higher volume of shots.

That's correct, right??? Some poetry writes itself. Did I read it wrong? The biggest $inning legacy program has a 2 yr mission trip player coming back to play for Coach Pope...  Isn't that what the story is??? Honest question.

He’s the only one…everybody else is gone.

I don't feel sorry for them, but I don't want to laugh at them too hard either. With the collection of talent we are gathering, I think the chance of us loosing players in the next couple years has gone up by a good amount. They don't stick around one place for long anymore.

Yeah, but their entire team is gone. I don’t think we’ll be faced with that unless we do something really stupid.

You’ve got a true sophomore that is definitely a pass first guy (Cupps), a complete unknown (Newton), a senior that is a marksman but struggles getting his own shot (Leal). If Connor makes guard number 7, you’ve got to figure he’s tied for 4th at worst.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d like to have him, but don’t like our odds. When somebody like Nebraska can almost guarantee him a major role (maybe starting), it will be tough to overcome, but maybe he wants to come back home to Indiana…let’s hope.
