I had posted this in another thread...

Using the quadrant system, which was in its fourth season in 2020-21, the quality of wins and losses will be organized based on game location and the opponent's NET ranking.

Quadrant 1: Home 1-30, Neutral 1-50, Away 1-75.

Quadrant 2: Home 31-75, Neutral 51-100, Away 76-135.

Quadrant 3: Home vs. 76-160 teams; neutral vs. 101-200; away vs. 136-240.

Quadrant 4: Home vs. 161-plus teams; neutral vs. 201-plus; away vs. 241-plus

So far...

Our Quad 1 win? Xavier (39)

Our Quad 1 losses? Arizona (16) Rutgers (29)

Our Quad 2 wins? UNC (37) Nebraska (75)

NCAA Basketball NET Rankings as of 12/10

KU goes about 8 deep...Not very big, so I think we can get some inside, but I'm sure they'll double every time Trayce catches the ball...

If we shoot the 3 like we did vs Arizona, I think we can win this game...They beat Wisconsin in OT at a neutral site (American Family Park, the Brewers Stadium)...

Couple of other things...

I was impressed at the beatdown they gave 9-0 Missouri at the Tiger's gym, but then I looked at Mizzou's schedule...

image.png.ed404e3da561707ffc058bacfb8d0734.png

And Missouri had no size to speak of...

But if you watch the highlights, you can see where the Jayhawks make their money...They will transition you to death if you let them...A lot of their transition buckets were 3s...

I watched Grady Dick play against Montverde in high school, so JHS and Malik know his game...Don't think he's just a 3 point specialist...he can put it on the floor too...

I wonder if see X in the post vs Harris for a few possessions?

With Dick being a freshman, I hope the size and experience of Race and Trayce can get him in foul trouble (uphill battle at KS, I know).

I think Dick will guard Kopp to start. Do they play him at the 4, some?

I was thinking Kopp would guard Dick too...

The good thing is, both Trayce and Race can guard on the perimeter pretty well...So between Adams, Wilson, and Dick, who do you put Trayce on?

I assume XJ on Harris and JHS/Galloway on McCullar

I would prefer TJD on Adams.

Wilson is the 4 at least starting the game.

I saw Dick (and Wilson) listed at 6'8" and assumed those were the "bigs". With Dick and McCullar both listed at 205lbs, Race will have an advantage inside. He hasn't looked too comfortable there but I hope he can turn that around like he did with his outside shooting.

The Kansas crowd will be difficult to overcome.  They will make the Rutgers crowd look like a walk in the park.

I think you are right about the home crowd being a big factor but it seems that many IU fans took advantage of the fact that this game was included in the Kansas mini-package bundle and bought them. Wouldn’t it follow that this is a game that will be played while KU students are on break?

JHS mom posted saying he is on track to return for the Kansas game

Man I hope that this is good news but I attended the IU morning shoot around in Vegas and all JHS did for the hour was stretch with Tim Garl and Dr Rink while the team went through drills and shoot around. Towards the end he was at the opposite end of the floor shooting free throws but I found myself less than optimistic that he’d be playing until Big Ten action resumes. Heaven knows we miss him so happy to hear his mom’s report.

Go Hoosiers!!!!

My biggest concern is that we lose this game and the season then goes in the toilet.  Now if we win this game, then I will expect a FF appearance.

If you would have told me that we'd be 2-2 against our P6 non-conference opponents, I would have taken it... 3-1 certainly...

To me, the Iowa game on 1/5 looms large... On the road, in conference, decent team, and Kris Murray may be back...

I just don't see us going in the tank. I'm seeing improvement in players like Bates, Galloway, and Kopp that we've been waiting for.

We got out-toughed by Rutgers, but I really didn't feel that way against Arizona. If anything, I thought our toughness kept us in the game... They were just too talented and made big plays when we made our runs... Every time...

I'd love to win in Lawrence... But if we don't, it's not the end of the season... I don't particularly care about rankings as some do... I'd rather be in the mix for a Big 10 title...

Yeah I think a lot of posters thought the same thing going into the season and then they got big heads. Now for some of them 2-2 is a sign of just another season like the last 20! Regardless let’s at least play a game that everyone will think okay Indiana is the real deal this year!

One thing I really like about Coach Woodson is his desire to use what he learned from Coach Knight with this team. When Woodson was playing all through the 80's, Knight was one of the top 5 coaches in the country. I'm not saying this will happen, but Woodson is not gonna let this team crash and burn like some posters may feel. I just don't see this happening at all. I think we will start see a tougher team with more fight as the season progresses.

I'm with you. I've seen a real pessimistic streak come out since that Rutgers loss, and fair, we got punked. But everyone gets punked sometimes and a Top 30 loss on the road isn't the worst thing. Neither is a Top 10 loss on a neutral court. Arizona was just a better team, with the size to neutralize our strength in the front court. I actually thought we fought pretty well, we just dug too big a hole when our only available ballhandler wasn't on the court.

Kansas is likely a better team too, especially at their place. If we lose I expect the pessimism will increase. It shouldn't, because every one of us if asked would have pegged this game as a loss to start the season. If we win, it's a huge boost. If we lose, oh well. Our goals of a Big Ten title, heck even a Final Four, will still be on the table.
