Love the hyperbole lol. Show me where we’re acting like we’re on a UCLA type run.

Who’s saying that’s the zenith? We’ll continue to be a really good program after Edey is gone just like we were before he got here.

I love the “just wait until Edey is gone” takes as if people think we’ll suck. We heard the same thing about Swanigan, Carsen, Ivey, etc… Painter has things rolling and it’s not going to stop just because Edey leaves. With him gone and the incoming class coming in, we’ll still be a top 25 team easily.

I don't think Purdue will suck, Painter is too good of a coach. I do wonder at their ceiling if they continue to be somewhat adverse to using the portal. And I will be glad to see Edey move on, just don't enjoy the style of basketball he enforces on the game.

I'm going to bang this drum for the next two weeks. I'm looking at Sparty schedule and I just don't see how everyone still has them in tourney. Not even on the bubble or last 4. Wins vs Baylor, Indiana St highlight the nonconference. Best conference win is home vs Illinois....those 3 are it. Have lost 3 in a row as well yet they moved up in rankings.

Just blows my mind.

Yeah, the metrics love them a lot. But look at the resumes of the bubble teams, and they still look a lot better. Worst losses are to Iowa and Ohio St.

My own opinion but I don’t think the portal will be as impactful once the COVID year is gone which IIRC, is after next season.  It’ll obviously still be there but I don’t think it’ll be to the same magnitude it’s been the last several years. Painter’s philosophy to continue building through the HS ranks and supplementing through the portal is a good philosophy IMO. Will Illini fans be kicking themselves that they didn’t go after Kanon Catchings because they were more focused on portal guys? Wouldn’t surprise me.

They lose 3 in a row and improve. I hope IU follows the Big 12 lead. Schedule 300+ opponents and beat them by 30 is the key to good metrics besides the normal tough games. The heck with the in between stuff.

The pool will be smaller for sure, a lot depends on if the court ruling allowing multiple transfers holds up or not. I think the upcoming off season will be absolute chaos. Not worried about Catchings, Underwood will find talent.

You need a bunch of teams to do the same and I'm still not sure it's some magic secret to beat NET. You still have to beat those teams by 40.

And maybe start off by beating Army by more than 8 points, eh? 🤣

Underwood will find talent. 7 years on the job. 2 tourney wins. Man UofI has the ECUI crowd in top shape....good luck this Spring....you have to be the only Illini fan I know who actually thinks Underwood is in good shape.

My question is do you think that method is sustainable with that much roster turnover each year? I think it can be tough because you don’t know if guys are in it to be program guys or just in it for a paycheck.

LOL. Any Illini fans who don't appreciate what Underwood has done to rebuild the program are morons. The Loyola game really scarred some of them.

I don't think you want to bring in 5+ one year guys each season but probably as many transfers as HS recruits. I think finding some mukti-year guys will be important. It's the new reality.

@BruceDouglas Saw Luke Goode is going through Senior Night as a Junior tomorrow, potential transfer candidate?

Could be, though Underwood comments made it sound like it was his idea? Goode's probably a role player, so if he wants starting minutes he may move on.

Lol.  No matter how “nice” Purdue fans and posters are, it always eventually comes back to this, doesn’t it?

Just for the record—and I can’t speak for the younger generations—those of us my age (pushing 60) and older are not jealous.  I’ve seen IU win 3 championships and go to 5 Final Fours (I don’t remember the ‘73 Final Four).  For those too young to have witnessed those, maybe there is some jealousy.  Only they know.

But the thing for us older folks, we understand that even elite programs have down periods.  Kansas stunk when I was a kid until Larry Brown brought them back.  Alabama football was down for quite a while.  UCLA basketball.  It happens.

No doubt, Purdue is really good this year.  Better than last year.  They could win it all.  But they entered this season with only two consecutive 20-win seasons, just like us.  But one would never guess that from all the talk.  When you have 50 years of college basketball in your memory bank, the past couple years seem like 5 minutes.  It doesn’t really move the needle, as folks here like to say.

To me, the comparison to Alabama football is instructive.  Alabama went through many coaches over a couple decades.  Auburn, their rival, got to talk some smack for a while.  They even won a title.  I think we all know when Indiana decides to pull its head out of its hind-end like Alabama eventually did, things will be back to close to the way they were.  And I bet when that happens, Purdue is going to realize what an opportunity they missed.  Because at least Auburn won a championship.

Those programs all cheated….

Always...

They act like they're on some UCLA type run...

Like I said, we're 3-3 against them in the Woody era...and they've lost to double digit seeds the last 2 years...

If that's the zenith of Purdue basketball... 🤣

It's going to be enjoyable next year watching them play without Edey...

I wonder if Painter has put in for Berg's lane parking pass yet?

No matter what happens it’s my school!

Unless we cheat or recruit jerks who don’t play hard & go to class I’ll be just fine

Its 18-22 year olds playing a sport

Still thinking both of those guys you mentioned end up in the portal?

I know the one is no clue anymore on CF...but honestly so many things can change. I think the portal opens up in 2 weeks (great move NCAA) so we'll find out soon enough. No clue why the NCAA doesn't just wait for portal to open say the Monday before Final 4 that way only 4 teams don't have to worry about recruiting their own players and others the entire month of March.

OMG... Both Bardo AND Hummel doing color commentary for the Purdue-Illinois game on Peacock...

I think it may come to blows...

Just turned it on and heard this and thought I was hearing things.

Also, immediately saw Edey get a "spectacular block" where he didn't even touch the ball...

Man. Braden Smith. Watched him in high school as most did....but love that kid. Scary thing about Purdue is the balance now with Jones....I don't want to say much more or I'll have to turn in my IU card.

Many on here said it….offer him now

If you couldn’t see it from sophomore to senior jump….
