I want me some baseball badly...but I just don't like the feel or whatever of this plan. Guess I just don't know. Players and their families are going to have to decide if $, reduced salaries,etc....is worth it as well as being away from them for months potentially.

Ran across this while going through some of my old baseball books...it's a poem called "The Anthem" by William "Sugar" Wallace using only baseball nicknames. Very well and cleverly done...thought y'all baseball diehards might enjoy it...

I was talking more about the overall atmosphere...

What does Hohokam hold? 10-12,000?

I don't know...maybe they could wring some excitement out of it...

I remember getting pretty pumped watching my daughter play softball in HS with maybe 50 fans. Then again I did have a vested interest!

The greatest baseball player ever from Indiana?  And the mystery that surrounds his death.  Saw a piece yesterday evening on WANE-TV discussing the man...never heard of him until I watched it.

I found this interesting, and I had never heard of him either.  He died in 1907 just a few days after my Dad was born.

Baseball Reference running a simulated season.

Early Division Leaders include:

  • Yankees
  • White Sox
  • Athletics
  • Braves
  • Reds
  • Diamondbacks/Dodgers

Sorry Cubs fans.  They are floundering in last place.

https://www.baseball-reference.com/sim/daily.fcgi

They also list league leaders, and you can drill into each team for complete stats.

Good stuff.

Ted Kluszewski  was a pretty darn good baseball player from IU.  Played for a 9-0-1  IU football team in 1945, before donning an IU baseball uniform, and averaged .443 BA that year.  "Big Klu" while in the big leagues, was known to rip the shoulders off his uniforms due to his huge biceps.  In fact, two teams he played for redid their team uniforms without so that he was not the only one to not have shoulder coverings on his uniform.  Ted Kluszewski

Alrighty then...here's a tough one...

Only two NL clubs have had 3 different players win the NL MVP award in 3 consecutive seasons...

What were the teams and who were the players?

No clue but sounds like a team with a ton of talent for long stretches. Maybe Dodgers or Reds or Cardinals.  Won't even try to guess players.

You have the two teams, just lop off the one that's "blue" over not qualifying...😀

Darn...because I immediately thought would be some sort of Garvey, Cey, Dusty or Pedro combo there in early 80's....or maybe some combination of Rose, Morgan, Bench from the Reds.

Good guesses, both...but not the answer...

This will be a tough one...

I know the Reds are one of the teams...and Ernie Lombardi was one of the players.  Just can't think of the other two guys or the other team.

There you go...close, and Lombardi is right...

Both of the two remaining Reds are often overlooked in their history...

Frank McCormick.

Well, the Reds side is covered...

McCormick was a 9 time All-Star, and one of the best fielding 1st basemen of his era...I think his playing the middle of his career over WW2 hurts his stature in the eyes of some baseball people...but his best years were before the war...

Anybody gonna take a crack at the Cards?
