I have a feeling it will unfortunately
-
Props to JHS for stepping it up here the past couple minutes!
-
Obviously he has a lot of talent and he’s the second most important player on our team, but he tries to live up to that too much and overcompensates by taking poor shots and forcing things at times.
-
JHS is trying to do entirely too much. Calm down young fella
-
How many turnovers now?
-
@IUFLA I haven’t forgotten about you picking RJ Melendez to have a breakout type season haha. We appreciate the reverse psychology on him!
-
This is kinda pathetic
-
We’ve kinda sucked working out of the double team. Trayce needs to make quicker moves but the Illini big men are doing a decent job keeping him in front of them. Stick him at the free throw line and let him work from there
-
It’d be nice if we could get into a 3 seed
-
I’d say Maryland has a shot a being a dark horse second weekend team. They clearly have talent and athleticism. I am worried about how well they’ll play on a neutral court though. They’ve only won two road games this season: @ Louisville & @ Minnesota. That leaves a lot to be desired to say the least.

At this point all you can do is laugh and move on with life. Especially since we all know nothing is gonna be done about B1G officiating (I would be pleasantly surprised if they did)

How to reform college basketball officiating

We’d get them straightened out for sure -

I like it. Others have also mentioned not being able to ref games if you have ties to a particular university in that game. -
We’ll let you know if we think of anything else lol
-
Ok this conversation is going nowhere lol. You disagree with the majority of the people here on this situation and that’s okay, no hard feelings. I respect the logical reasoning and being able to not let the emotions of the game affect your reasoning, by the way. We just happen to disagree about how much the officials impacted the game. Hopefully the game Saturday has a better outcome.
-
You didn’t, but I never said you did either. However, it seems that your position is trying to be a contrarian on this situation. My response is just a general statement to your position.
-
Agreed. Unless the refs are being berated in an over the top fashion, they should avoid calling techs. Technical fouls should be used to control the game when it is getting out of hand (this could be for a variety of reasons). Refs have to realize their job is to make calls and have to game run as smooth as possible, NOT take over the game because their pride or ego is hurt.
-
I don’t think anyone is claiming we played perfect or didn’t make mistakes. We absolutely shot ourselves in the foot with our poor play in the first half. But to not acknowledge or accept that the officials had any sort of influence in that is ridiculous in my opinion.
-
Thanks for bringing that up. I noticed that during the game too but eventually forgot about it. Assuming Hummel knew what he was talking about, they should’ve only been awarded 3 shots. B1G officiating at its finest.
-
I hope we get NW in the tournament
-
I guess you didn’t read my response to @IU Scott
-
It wasn’t acceptable from us and it isn’t acceptable from any other school. We also issued an apology to Haarms and Purdue, I believe.
-
I think the classless display by the Northwestern fans and student section should be addressed in some way. I’m all for a raucous and rowdy crowd but that was unacceptable in my opinion. It wasn’t just once either, it was throughout the game.
-
Yep, 100%. While the reaching wasn’t as egregious in the second half, the moving screens were evident throughout the course of the game. Was it called once? Of course not.
-
When will officials be held accountable for how god awful they are at their job? I’m not one to complain about them because there’s always something the team could’ve done to win, but you can’t tell me a properly officiated game doesn’t give us a better chance to win. Northwestern has been gifted their past two wins off of piss poor Big Ten officiating crews.
