Purdue had an unique situation with Edey staying so long and being so dominant.  I think we'll know more about how Purdue decides to build their program in the next two off seasons.  Any philosophy works when you have a 25 pt and 12 rebs a game guy controlling the paint.

Obviously there will be a drop off this year at Purdue.   How much and how that effects their approach is to be seen.

Staying so long? He was a true senior this year and didn’t redshirt or use the COVID year.  I think it’s clear that Painter will adapt to the type of roster he has. The team that almost made the F4 in 2019 was drastically different than the one this year. He recruits talented players and figures out the rest later.

It will be interesting to see how much MP changes strategies throughout post ice cream boy.

Yep I agree!  Think it’ll look closer to the 2019 team with Carsen. Much more athleticism across the board and TKR will be the focal point in the low post.

This is strange to say, but....aside from top 25 level high school prospects, I'm not really that worried about it.  Why take a chance on a kid out of high school when you could get a proven player from the portal?

You make a good point and it is interesting to see the difference in philosophy of our programs going forward.  I personally love how CMP is still building it through the HS ranks and supplementing through the portal with a Lance Jones for example.  I think a guy like Kanon Catchings would’ve been more heavily pursued an Illinois/IU pre-portal days for example. I do wonder how much different the portal will look after the COVID year goes away.

Mike Woodson and the staff are having an in home visit with Sisley later today.

How are y’all feeling about the recruitment?  I think it’ll end up being pretty tough for him to say no to IU but we shall see.

I’d actually say he is worth something which is why he will cash in to go somewhere else. If he was not worth anything than he would just stay where he is. He had options. People may not like him…I get that but he can play a good role…and actually fits better at Duke than he did at Purdue (and he was fine there).

He didn’t have the option to stay at Purdue though.  Once he told Painter he’d be moving on after the season, CMP recruited accordingly.  He was always going to either play somewhere else or stop playing altogether.

Where I'm sure he'll start and get 30 minutes per game 🙄

Lol he might. But he picked a great school and a great program after getting 2 degrees from Purdue. This all boils down to it not being about lack of NIL for him leaving. He was always going to leave (same with Morton) after the season.  We didn’t even attempt to bring him back.

Is Fletcher Loyer one of these sharpshooters we speak of?

If so, why didn't he shoot better as a FR? I mean, no one got better looks than he and Smith did as FR, but yet, they could only shoot 97-282== 34.3% --- on the HIGHEST quality of looks of basically anyone in the country.

Are those two sharpshooters and if so, why?

I think it’s clear both Loyer and Smith are sharpshooters but both struggled at times last year.  I think some have a harder time adjusting to the college game than others and they were both worn down by the end of that season. I think they’ll both see a dip next year with Zach gone but still think they’ll shoot it well.  To me, it’s a combination of form, consistency, etc…. Even with Galloway’s high percentage a few years ago, I never considered him a sharpshooter for example.

FTR, I think Essegian is a sharpshooter too.

No real dispute from 1-20, but 21-25....ehhhh.....

Select five of the following. Number in parenthesis is the decade of the team's most recent FF:

Team 1: 5 FF appearances, one runner up finish, top 25 in all time wins (2000s)
Team 2: 4 FF appearances, one national championship (1990s)
Team 3: 4 FF appearances, one national championship, one runner up and top 25 in all time wins (1990s)
Team 4: 6 FF appearances, 2 runner up finishes (2020s)
Team 5: 4 FF appearances, one national championship, one runner up, top 50 in all time wins (2010s)
Team 6: 3 FF appearances, 2 national championships, top 100 in all time wins (1950s)
Team 7: 5 FF appearances, 2 runner up finishes, top 50 in all time wins (2010s)
Team 8: 6 FF appearances, 2 national championships, top 50 in all time wins (2000s)
Team 9: 2 FF appearances, 1 national championship, top 75 in all time wins (2000s)
Team 10: 3 FF appearances, 1 national championship, top 50 in all time wins (2010s)
Team 11: 4 FF appearances, top 75 in all time wins (2000s)
Team 12: 3 FF appearances, 1 national championship, top 100 in all time wins (2020s)

I’m obviously biased but I don’t think there’s any way you can leave Purdue out of the top 25 even without a championship. Top 10 in all-time wins, most B1G championships, All-Americans galore. Don’t see any real argument for Wisky over Purdue honestly especially with them missing the tournament 40+ years in a row.

I like you boiler.  You’re are cards fan and sometimes reasonable, but sometimes you are exhausting.  There are always exceptions, but focus on the rule.  Generally speaking, no win = no fans = no media = no 💵.   With that, IU’s tank is starting to run low.  The RMK years are only going to last for so much longer, then generations will die off with the younger ones loyalty being less or going elsewhere.  It’s why we are at such a crossroads with our program.

I don’t disagree with any of that and think you make a lot of good points. But at the same time, NIL has evened up the playing field for teams that couldn’t compete before (see Miami for example). It’ll be interesting to see what the portal/NIL looks like once the COVID year is gone after this upcoming season.

You think we have the checkbook without the tradition?

I don’t think they’re mutually exclusive. Look at a school like Illinois. They’ve got robust NIL and have a history like Purdue’s not IU. Plenty of NIL heavy hitters don’t have better tradition than an IU or Purdue. All it takes is a John Ruiz at Miami to buy a Nijel Pack for example. Definitely helps having an alum like a Cuban or Ishbia for MSU that’s for sure.

Hopeless...you get presented with evidence and you still try to wiggle...

I'm sure they chose numbers out of a hat 🙄

I'm not going to continue with someone who's disingenuous...

Did you read the disclaimer?  It talked about how they estimated it but admitted it’s private data that isn’t shared and it’s simply a “best guess.”

Regardless, Purdue hasn’t been hurt by NIL nor will it be moving forward.
