Until we can get these top in state kids we will never be able to compete for the big ten.  Once the top players from the state comes to IU the better chance to bring higher ranked out of state kids.

There’s more #6-15 Indiana HS kids who’ve actually made an impact in college than 1-5 in the last ten years. There have been a lot of busts in that top tier. I think it would be nice to land them, give me solid athletes  from Florida, Texas, Ohio and Michigan any day. Also, to btown’s point, we do very well in state in the first place.

I guess Villanova wasn't in awe of Buddy Boeheim and his slow spin move like we were last week. 3/14 shooting with 6 points.

You can’t give up 30 offensive rebounds and beat anybody much less Villanova. We caught the Syracuse Boeheims on the wrong night, at home where they were hitting everything they threw at the rim. That said, Nova was less than impressive for 35 min

I thought Charlie Strong was can't miss at Texas. I thought the same of Mullen.

I never dreamed it would take Harbaugh this long to compete with OSU.

I thought Chip Kelly would run the P12 at UCLA.

I never thought Frost would have trouble in the West.

So many other hires that haven't worked out at all or certainly not as effective as I thought they'd be.

I have no clue if WB will work, but I also don't have a very good track record of figuring out what coaches WILL work during their introductory press conference and it doesn't bother me to admit that. 🤷‍♂️

I keep seeing fans referencing his HC record at UMASS as to why it’s a “bad hire”. I can’t think of a more irrelevant data point. Some coaches are better as coordinators rather than overseeing the entire operation…also, it’s UMASS. All I care about is if he’s able to manage a game and gameplan for upcoming opponents. Hopefully he’s really good at that and recruits buy into his style

Anyone notice Fife running the huddle?

Archie never ran the huddles either. Woodson tends to let Fife manage the sets and will pull guys aside for one on one instruction. I think Fife is taking over for Woodson as soon as he’s ready to retire which may be sooner than later

That's the problem.  He sits himself with silly fouls.

I would argue that they are overly aggressive fouls, which I still don’t love but can tolerate more than silly/lazy fouls. I also think he gets some bad calls based on how aggressive he guards. Refs anticipate fouls on him that aren’t always there

Both have hitches in their shot. You can see it.

I mean, those were grrrreat looks.

It’s gotta be a confidence issue. They go into their shots hoping it goes in when they need go into their shots knowing it’s going in. I guarantee they drain them at a high level in practice

It was about time Purdue got some luck going their way. They were going to be #1 with Hummel but he tore his ACL.

No they weren’t…by the time Purdue worked its way to 3rd, Kansas had already locked that up an never lost it. Kentucky was also rated higher the entire season. Losing Hummel had nothing to do with it

I have mixed feelings about taking back guys who enter the portal. Do you really want guys in the locker room who were shopping for a better deal? Doesn't feel like the level of commitment that you want. Of course, I'm old and view things differently than people do these days.

Normally I’d absolutely agree but with the OC being in flux, you never know how/if these kids even fit into his plans. I’m a firm believer in that it’s rarely what you do but how you do it that matters and only the current staff and these kids are privy to that at the moment.

….or the new OC will hopefully be a great hire, respectable resume’ with good connections through player development and recruiting. Who knows,…..IU’s players in the portal may not even make the new OC’s cut….lol

One can dream…it’s such a tough hire for CTA. Get a homerun and he’ll be gone in a year or two…get an up and comer and you risk failure.

Didn't shoot it down but is skeptical of his play. We got the QB from Notre Dame one year and thought he would be a savior since he went to ND.

There’s nothing to be skeptical of Spencer Rattler’s play. If CTA can somehow get him he’s the best QB in the room without question.

I mean I don’t watch much Indiana games as I don’t follow the football team like I do the basketball team but if your offense is never on the field because they suck and the defense is asked to be on the field most of the game it’s just destined to be bad for the defense. If you can show me where Indiana won time of possession in more than three of their losses then you might have an argument. Defenses in any program are just not built to me on the field for a majority of the game like the IU defense has been forced to do.

    Cumulative Time of Possession:

    IU: 29:49/game

    Opponents: 30:11/game

    https://iuhoosiers.com/sports/football/stats/2021

This lists game by game. IU won the ToP battle exactly half the time. Penn St and Minnesota were the only games where the ToP was heavily lopsided for the opponent.

Regardless of injuries, the defense played good enough to beat MSU and UC. In some of the blowouts they played ok considering what the offense gave them.
The only games the offense played well in were Idaho and WKU. Outside of those games (and the first drive) they never seemed in sync.

I don’t disagree but if not for dropped passes we probably beat Cincy. This has been a very weird season when you consider we played 5th string walk ons at QB/RB for half the season and our best receiver led the conference in drops. Ryan Day could have been our coordinator and we wouldn’t have faired much better. I’m in no way arguing the offense was performing well but we had zero healthy talent on that side of the ball for most of the year.
Ultimately I think Allen needed to do better than Sheridan but it’s not correct to blame this season on him. Warren had 10 starters back, got Ball back from injury and added two starting D Lineman only to go from first to worst in takeaways, 3rd best to worst in scoring defense while still giving up almost 400 yards per game despite all these claims that field position issues caused by the offense was more to blame than the defense.

Wait... the defense didn't have injuries? Lol

An All American corner and an all league safety sitting out yesterday and basically the entire year for Mullen doesn't change things against Purdues pass attack. Get real man.

We also lost our best pass rushing DE.

So that's 3 of 11 defensive starters out against Purdue... 3 of our best 7 players on that side, but yeah, no injuries for that side.

Against Minnesota we had all those injuries plus Cam Jones sat out. Still no injuries?

I didn’t say the defense didn’t have injuries they just weren’t as costly and catastrophic to the game plan as the offense. My point was simply that the defense far underperformed compared to the offense…Injuries on both sides considered

We fired Sheridan in what, 12-14 hours after the last snap of the season, on a Sunday?  And it "doesn't move the needle?"

The defense was "bad" in the latter half of the season because half our 2 deep was injured at one point or another and the offense continually threw pick sixes, turned it over in the red zone, and went three-and-out at the 20 yard line, giving the other team starting position on our side of the 50 half the time.  Hard to have a good defense all year when you're put in that situation on nearly every drive.  Most of the defenses "problems" actually stem from how utterly inept we were on offense all year.

Also, if Allen goes the "head coach of the offense" route again, which, IMO, is likely, he'll probably give that person some latitude in bringing in his own position coaches (with the likely exception of McCullough).  Give it more than an hour to play out...

The offense hasn’t thrown a pick 6 since the MSU game so to blame the defensive struggles of the second half of the season on “pick 6s” is weird. The defense didn’t have nearly the catastrophic injuries and defections the offense had either so my point was, if you want to make a statement firing, the DC is first to go and it isn’t even close. Hiller still having a job right now when Sheridan is fired is just as confusing. I can understand why the offense sucked this year but the defense has literally zero excuse, including “injuries”.
