Wishful thinking as far as I know.  However, I suspect if IU sustains what we are developing, the bitching from Ann Arbor, East Lansing, and State College/Happy Valley will be palpable.  And I don't mean by fans, I mean by people with a vote in the matter.  Just a prediction.

Not just IU. Anyone overlooking what Rutgers is putting together is being naive. They have a TON of talent coming up. If both programs continue on this path, all the schools in the East will demand a change, including OSU. It’d be insane not too. Hell Maryland might threaten to leave the conference otherwise.

How could that make sense? PSU is farther east than 4 schools in our division.

IMO, the only realignment that would make sense and maybe better divide the power programs, would be to go North/South.

South would include Maryland, OSU, IU, Purdue, Illinois, Nebraska and either Penn State or Iowa.

Because it’s based on progam talent and not geography. I already mentioned in another thred that the north/south is the only geo based method that works but as others have pointed out, even that only does so if IU and Rutgers continue to improve and stay consistent.

I still think those divisions are pretty lopsided unless IU develops into a consistent contender or somehow Nebraska or some dark horse like Rutgers does.

Penn State/Michigan/Wisconsin/Iowa in one division is brutal and Michigan State used to be a power too, we will see what they do under a new coach but yeah... I’m not sure that fixes much outside of swapping which division is the problem.

I have to Imagine Nebraska will find a way to be relevant again and if Rutgers is going to recruit like this under Schiano, they’ll be at the top of the conference in no time. It’s not perfect but it’s better than what we have now.

You couldn't have a more imbalanced conference if Gary Barta hired 20 mathematicians with Ph.D.'s from MIT who tried with all their might to put together the most imbalanced conference possible.

Ive been wanting to move to a North v South setup for years.
South: IU, Purdue, OSU, Illini, Nebraska, Rutgers and Maryland vs North: Iowa, NW, Minny, Wisky, UM, MSU and PSU.

Without a random assortment, hard to see us getting away from OSU every year but this at least levels the field.

That’s a fair question honestly. I know they really like the redshirt freshman (Alaimo) they have and who knows? I wouldn’t be surprised if Allen came in and won the job as a freshman. He’s a stud.

Allen has zero chance to start as a freshman even at Purdue. The game he plays at Gibson Southern vs BigTen football couldn’t be more different and it will take more than one off season for him to catch up. Your “stud” didn’t belong on the same field as Columbus North or Whiteland, what makes you think he’s ready for Iowa, Wisconsin and IU?

There was the group of Monds, Durant, Spells, Cooper, and Mullen that we had been recruiting for a long time. I thought we had a decent shot some of them, but I could have seen us getting 0 or 1 also.  Getting 3 of 5 was incredible.

Then throw in some guys we hadn't been on as long like Hoover, Miller, Smith, Jones, and Lynch who all committed recently (assuming on Lynch), and we have been getting a lot of guys we've wanted.

The next group I'm following is the group of Strickland, Moore, and Gaines. Really if we get any of them I'd be pretty happy. 2 or more and I'd be really happy.

I really want both Moore and Strickland. I also think we should be able to flip Alfonzo Allen with ASU being in all thr trouble their in right now. Gaines would be great but those other guys fill an absolute need.

For anyone curious about the level of competition he faced, Austin Westlake defeated Southlake Carroll and #1 recruit in the nation QB Quinn Ewers (OSU commit) to win the 2020-21 Texas 6A state championship.  They are riding a 24 game winning streak against Texas 6A competition.  Among the 8 teams in their league (district) there are 5 Top 100 recruits including a pair of 5-stars.

Bray Lynch is the 4th highest ranked recruit on his team, the 3 teammates ranked ahead of him are:

    #51 TE Jaden Greathouse (2023)

    #65 QB Cade Klubnik (Clemson)

    #545 OT Connor Robertson (Texas)

    Westlake's record and ranking:

2021-22:  Preseason ranked 4th in the nation

2020-21:  14-0, won the 6A state championship, ranked 1st in Texas, ranked 3rd in the nation

2019-20:  15-1, ranked 5th in Texas, ranked 17th in the nation

Any info as to why the instate schools haven’t offered except TCU? Even if he’s not A&M or UT caliber, I would have expected the likes of Baylor, Tech, Houston, and SMU to be after him. Especially given the high profile HS program he plays for.

I think playing time would be the biggest thing if he turns us down.

If I were a betting man, I'd still feel confident saying Hoosiers though.

I agree. I’ve said this before, he’d have one heck of a leg up with McCulley. This kid looks special on film so playing time shouldn’t be an issue at either school

I would hate to lose an in state player to WVU.  I wish think we would lead in this recruitment with his HS QB on our roster

These instate recruits weren’t likely to grow up die hard Hoosier fans. It takes years of sustained success to achieve that status with in state kids. Sometimes kids just want to go somewhere new and have an experience. We have a ways to go as a program before IU is too big a deal to turn down to have that experience.

I know one of the kids who is going to Illinois. Shocked he got offered by them. Probably not even MAC level at best.

Most of Purdue’s classes under Brohm haven't had any depth. A couple years they had big classes, and got a ton of highly ranked WRs to boost their ranking, buy the depth in their classes had been pretty suspect. Last year's class terrible.

Purdue has lost 3 or more of their top recruits from the last couple classes to transfer also.

Hoover is rated slightly higher than Penix was, and a commitment from Hoover would bring our average rating down.  This class could be insane.

Well the average can only really go down from here. Dasan is what’s driving our 90pt avg score. We’re only recruiting 4-5 more fringe 90pt guys and who knows how many we’ll land but I hope we can end up in the top 4-6 in the Big based on averages

Honestly that one didn't bother me as much as the one he had against UM. The one against PSU, Penix threw absolutely, unreasonably hard... and the official had to duck to avoid the ball and then bam the ball is on Peyton. Yes, should have caught it.. but I can honestly understand why he didn't.

And that's coming from a former QB lol

It can’t be easy for a TE to go from Ramsey to Penix. The ball comes at the receiver at incredibly difficult angles and velocity. Hopefully working with Tuttle will help him adapt better. Where I thought Hendershot shined was going up and getting Ramsey’s 50/50 balls...those are a thing of the past.

According to OSU fans, Dasan has reportedly taken out any mention of being of being an Ohio State Commit on his social media pages

I did take a quick look at the Twitter page out of curiosity and while he still had his tweet of “one year ago today” (his OSU offer) from a couple weeks ago, more interesting to me was his congrats tweet to Tamar Bates, and referring to him as family. They didn’t go to the same hs when both were still in KC so I’m kinda curious if “fam” is IU related.

  14. My take on this currently is that he wants the challenge and bright lights of OSU football and won’t be flipping unless somehow his parents convince him to; however, no one knows if Deland and his wife would even push that on him.
I can kinda see it both ways as my dad and older brother are both Purdue alumns but there was 0% chance of me going there...that being said, if my dad’s paycheck and thus the food on my table came from Purdue, I can’t imagine he’d be supportive of me going to a rival school and actively challenging his career.
If it were me, I’d have to either flip to IU or go play for a team in a different conference. Will be very interesting to see how this plays out.
