The key for next year is to get considerably better at the 2,3,4 spots from last year's starting lineup. Not one person will be able to contribute what TJD did but if Reneau and if we get Ware can combine for TJD stats. Also, hopefully XJ can can come close to JHS numbers from last year.

Don't think X's individual numbers are the most important thing.

He's the "straw that stirs the drink".  Whatever team we put together it will be his job to make sure they perform to their maximum offensively and defensively by controlling the game, maximizing his teammates' skills, and using his own considerable skills to fill in where the team is lacking.

  2. Talked to a friend last night who knows basketball talent well.

He's seen Bidunga play.  He says he's the best basketball talent to come out of Indiana in his life time with the possible exception of OR.  He said that Bidunga was shooting three's in warm-ups like they were free throws.  He noted a flow and confidence in his game.

Anyone have the numbers of how much offense we are losing between Trayce, Race, JHS, and Kopp? Percentage or just raw points it’s a lot. Hard to see where it will come from next year.

Yes, I agree.  Also interesting is whether CMW will change to a more NBA offense of 4 out and 1 under with lots of snipers.  So far it looks like we are looking at mostly bigs, but that may be do mostly due to who has entered the portal most recently.

  4. This coming season will be CMW and his staff's biggest challenge.  We are losing 4 experienced starters including a consensus A-A/all-time IU great and an NBA level guard.  The incoming class is small and hardly overwhelming.  CMW will have to find some good fits in the portal, coach them up, and develop the existing talent.

Our offense improved greatly this season going from #95 to #28 in Kenpom OE, but the defense taking a nose dive from #24 to #45 in Kenpom DE.

He'll have to do all of this and have a great 24 recruiting season and space on the roster for them.

    Should be interesting!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that being asked to represent Puerto Rico in the WBC was something Diaz wanted to do despite any 'risk' (which, as indicated above really is not there other than something fluke such as this).  It's not like the WBC happens every year. Diaz may never have an opportunity to represent his country again.

And, minor leaguers?  Really?  How does that promote the game?  I know I'm watching because it's Trout, Betts, Turner, Arenado, Schwarber, etc. vs. the likes of Altuve, Acuna, Freeman, Lindor, Ohtani, etc.  I'm not going to watch if it's a bunch of minor leaguers or players from the Korean league, and I doubt 90% of the other people watching would either.

Scrapping something that generates this much interest because of a freak injury that could just have easily happened if he slipped in the shower would be short-sighted in my mind.

    You convinced me 5f.

  6. If IU is going to be playing NBA style, CMW will be looking for 3 & D guys with size like -- OG Anunoby.  We really haven't been a "4 out and 1 under" type of offense for both of Woody's first 2 years.  We already have lots of "scooters".

OK, DC2345 don't be such a big tease, who are you talking about?

I don't read it that way.  I think he's taking ownership for the deficiencies of some of the players.

Yes, this is classic Woodson speak.  He never blames others in public but takes ownership himself.   He won't hesitate to hold players and coaches responsible in private.

I know I’m biased but I think it looks worse than it actually was. I wouldn’t have had an issue with them reviewing it for a flagrant but Edey bit on the pump fake and used his hands to brace himself or else there’s a good chance all 300 pounds of him fall right on Mayer which would’ve been really bad. You see that a lot when a defensive player gets in the air on a shot fake where guys can be in vulnerable positions. Don’t think there was any malicious intent there but again I realize I’m biased.

Oh come on!  Edey squished him!  Then Mayer flopped and made it look like he was going to need back surgery as a result of the foul.  Fortunately for Edey and Purdue they were saved by the "Mayer Rule" which is any time Mayer is fouled and acts like he needs back surgery it's not a flagrant file and need not be reviewed.

I blame everyone else for taking so long to figure out how to beat purdue.

I think it says alot that we are where we are in conference surrounded by teams with bottom of conference SOS.

Not all teams have the right personnel.  You have to have guards that can pressure theirs and enough offense to win.
