Why would a guy like Power transfer from Duke to only he a role player somewhere else. I am hopeful that Newton can be able to he healthy for next year and be a contributor off the bench. If we knew he could then all we would need is a backup 4 and 5. That is if we get Carlyle

It sounds like he hardly got off the bench (?) at Duke so being on the bench at IU with actually more minutes per game with  opportunity in future years might be a draw. Or not.

    Starting 5:

    Rice

    Carlyle

    MM

    Reneau

    Ballo

    next 5:

    Cupps

    Gallo

    Newton/Leal

    open spot

    Malone

Newton got to practice a decent amount plus sit and learn and I think he explosive like Rice and Carlyle m. If he is confident and not scared of hurting his knee and is comfortable in the system he could be a player. It’s not like he was a 3 star coming in. If I remember correctly he also has a big wing span.

If Woody could go 10 deep that would be great, and maybe the roster you listed could do it. Hell, I don’t know. What I know is from living in Indiana all my life. Never coached or played organized. I do agree that Newton is being casually dismissed and could be a wild card.

FTR, I'm not saying it's impossible. But there's depth and there's 'stupid depth'. You need 'stupid depth' to get close to a platoon substitution in CBB. On top of that you'll need to avoid injuries....so that stupid depth is more like 11-12 deep. And selling that in today's climate of transfers, NIL and the desire for playing time is a tough task.

Maybe I'll be proven wrong though.

Agreed, tough to get 10 + players with equal skill at one time to not see a significant drop off and allow.

    We’ve got 4 more spots, I believe.

    Essegian, Power, Malone, and Carlyle.

Woody wants to play 10 deep.  That’s probably a legit 10 deep rotation. He can shut everyone up about having shooting and dynamic guards.

Some are saying you can’t go ten deep but I think Woody would love to sub out the starting 5 with a bench 5 in mass,. The key to doing so and be effective is the talent gap between your best players and your worst has to be small. You play your best players the most minutes. Not a close enough gap between best and worst in college to make it work.

I listened to Doyle on the radio today and he was at the ISU game last night. He had heard that most of the top players would go to SLU with the coach. I don't think Doyle knows that much and is a hack.

I would tend think the same thing, most of top players would more than likely transfer to SLU or as a group stay together at ISU. I think wishful thinking on all you thinking Conway would want to come to IU. Maybe if they threw a ton of NIL $ and he really wanted to go to IU out of high school. I’m skeptical. I’d welcome him gladly but don’t see it

  6. With 6 spots still open, yes indeed, we are not as good as we were last year. I remain skeptical, but let’s see who he convinces to come and fill those spots. Still plenty of opportunity to bring in those shooters. Would love to see a stud guard come in. Like I said, skeptical they can convince the players we need to actually come but they THIS IS A GOOD START.

We can’t talk…Race was here forever and Galloway and Leal will be collecting social security next year.

but just like Bacot has no NBA future he stayed to make that NIL $$ I can see Edey do the same next year.

Edey has already said he’s not coming back.

Number two is the key to me

Number one has to occur first, which I’m becoming skeptical of happening. Yes, he did get ware and Mgbako, though Mgbako came to him, but struck out pretty much after that. Getting so many new players to mesh is going to be an issue if he can bring in some talent.

  9. Late portal addition Ithiel Horton offers intriguing skillset Indiana basketball needs

To no surprise NIL will be a factor, sources told HoosierIllustrated. But relationships also bring added context to a potential Horton – Indiana basketball match.

Ithiel Horton played at Pitt alongside Indiana point guard Xavier Johnson for two seasons. Horton also played at UCF this season with former Indiana big man Michael Durr.
