I would imagine for these guys it’s a question of whether they want to continue playing and collect some NIL$$$, or do they want to start the professional life that an Ivy League education prepared them for?

Yep, but ball players are ball players so they might decide to delay. Or not.

I know we are looking at the guy from Harvard, but there are a couple of Princeton guys I would really consider as well

Evbuomwan is a senior and the Ivy League doesn’t allow a fifth year, so if he wants to continue playing college ball……..

I was simply using Creighton and Northwestern to counter the posts that indicated the number of Quad 1 wins played a 'huge' part in Xavier being seeded a 3 versus Memphis a 9.  My point is that, if that 'huge' difference played a part in seeding in the Xavier example, why did the same 'huge' difference have no bearing in the NW seeding.

The committee is on the record as stating that they RANK the teams first and then use the metrics to sort out from there.  So, if the metrics played no part ranking the teams, what did?

Hmmm, maybe just maybe, WHILE DOING THEIR RANKINGS, the committee had the perception that the Big 12 was really, really good, the Big 10 was pretty good, but not at the Big 12 level, the Big East was good, and the American basically sucked. And maybe, just maybe, those perceptions played a part in the seed certain teams received.

Because if it isn't perceptions, and it sure as heck isn't the metrics, then what the hell did they use to do their initial rankings?  Mascot popularity?

Oh, hell yes perceptions play a role. And right from the get go of the basketball season. “ Kansas is awesome. So if you can beat them you must be god too” The ACC is a premier league and Dke isr great, so wins there count more. ETC.

If MSU loses to Marquette, that leaves IU as the Big Ten's only chance at the Sweet 16.  Truthfully, if only one of MSU or IU advances, it will still be an embarrassing performance for the conference.  If neither make it, the word 'failure' is not even strong enough.

Personally, I don’t care about March Madness records. Too many factors in play that determine who wins or loses. Matchups, refs, where you’re sent.somebody going unconscious on you, you shooting abnormally cold, injuries, underdog  mentality, and others I’m forgetting. This year even more as everybody sayid before it stared just how wild and wide open it was going to be. Not to say the team’s performance is not a factor and not to say teams losing when they shouldn’t doesn’t count, talking to you Purdue. Just saying tourney performance as a league doesn’t carry much weight to me.

I think it's very naive to believe CMW hasn't already told multiple former player their time here has ran out. And we are a lot better this season because he and staff were willing ot make those choices/have those conversations.

And I agree... it was well planned. But I don't think there is really any way around it.... a couple of those guys were told to hit the road.

I’ll agree. And I think they were all in agreement in the end that it was time to leave.

Wasn't it widely assumed that Trayce, who went to the NBA combine, and didn't participate after he tested positive for COVID, wouldn't be back? And neither Race nor X  were a sure thing...Durr and Stewart were part of the Widy City 5, so maybe, as I said, Woody thought they were a bad lockerroom influence...And I'm sure after watching JHS, both Lander and Phinisee saw that if X did come back, the handful of minutes available weren't going to be enough...

And you contradict yourself saying "guys are allowed to just hang out that don't produce." You say Leal is a "special case" but in a business, as you see it, that shouldn't matter, should it?

"To be clear... I have zero issue with the way Woodsons has handled, basically anything."

I don't either...But it seems that some are lobbying to put recruiting transfers over traditional recruitment of high school kids, at the expense of some kids we currently have on the roster, and my take on that is...

Be careful what you wish for...

Agree, traditional recruits over transfers. Tranfers to fill gaps.( like next year ) No current roster player pushed out forcefully.

So.... we just magically knew how many guys would transfer that directly coincided with how many guys we had coming in FR wise? Cmon man.

To be clear... I have zero issue with the way Woodsons has handled, basically anything. But, I just don't think this is treated as a middle school and guys are allowed to just hang out that don't produce.

Whatever the reason or impetus, the wishes could have been expressed and known in time to coincide with the new recruits. Again, I have no idea. It’s all conjecture to me.

So, we had JHS, Gunn, and Banks committed last year, and signed actually..... were actively recruited Malik.... we had no schollies for these guys, btw.....

How did the amount of schollies we needed last year just magically transfer and open up? Phin, Lander, Durr, and Stewart. It wasn't ALL 4 of those guys decisions to leave, including Hunter the year before.

100% he is going to force guys to leave from time to time, as he should. And their playing time and position on the depth chart, in regards to where we are as a program/who we want to recruit is all relative when deciding what players are allowed to stick around. It's just the nature of the business, currently.

Not being privy to the inner workings of the IU basketball team,  who knows why players left. Maybe they were told they weren’t in the rotation anymore, maybe they determined IU wasn’t a fit for them anymore ( Stewart?)’ maybe they just wanted a change ( Phinisee, Lander ?). Who knows? I sure  don’t.

He basically already has kicked kids off--- Hunter, Stewart, Lander, Durr, Phin.

May just be talking semantics here. I have no doubt he’s told kids in plain English that it’s in their best interest to move on and they don’t fit into IU’s future plans prompting an incentively easy decision.Just Don know if said “we are pulling your scholarship, you’re gone.” Same result, different presentation

I agree with the first sentence...The second I'm not so sure of...

I really don’t think he’ll kick players off the team, second sentence just thinking being in NBA so long maybe he’s just used to management driven releasing of players instead of player driven

I think he’ll be honest with them and say Woodson doesn’t see them getting much playing time and he’ll understand them transferring to a better opportunity but don’t really think he’ll say hit the road , we no longer want you. Though his NBA background might suggest a ‘cut’ mentality.

I also think he might manage this group of holdovers, the ones that stayed and did not transfer out, a little differently than maybe some future players because they gave him a chance when he came on and didn’t leave. Think they earned some respect from him.

  13. ….coming back. Wonder if Geronimo might want to transfer as not playing much. ( hope not) could have up to 7 openings minus the two incoming freshmen. Transfers OK , Just bring in 1 year transfers  to allow for ‘24. Woody not kicking off Leal or anybody else. Not seen any indication that would happen. We’ll need some quick infusion next year I think.

So, I didn't know where else to put this, so I'm putting it here...And I'm sure there'll be some disagreement, but that's what forums are for, right?

As it stands, we'll have 10 scholarship players coming back, and that includes JHS, even though if I had to bet, I'd bet NBA bound...But until he makes that declaration, he's a Hoosier...

And we have 2 kids coming in, so that puts us at 12...So we have one opening...

I posted this the other day, but bringing it back as part of my overall point...Here are last years Transfer Rankings as far as the Big 10 goes from 2022...

    image.png.d8dacc67888820f286ef65e94b60a877.png

Notice anything? Of the top 9, only 2 made the tournament, and one of them is already out...The bottom 5 are essentially the top of our conference...

So I think Coach Woodson's mindset on what our culture is and should be, is that we recruit well, we develop our players well, and we don't "force" anyone out to clear room for transfers. If you want a "family" type culture, you surely don't throw relatives out to make room for strangers, no matter how talented they are...Should we force a kid like Anthony Leal out to get a coveted transfer? Not in my book you don't because you're messing with team chemistry, and you're exposing your hypocrisy on the whole "family" thing...Anthony Leal is important to this team in more ways than what he does on the floor...

So while I understand we have needs at certain positions, I'll never be into the "transfer culture" that some seem to embrace. If we have kids who want to leave to gain playing time elsewhere, fine...But I think Mike Woodson is honest with our kids...It's an open competition, and you can gain time by being productive in practices, and gain even more time by doing what we want of you in games...

If we do use the open scholly (or 2 depending on what JHS does) on transfers, be judicious, and let that kid know he's got to find his place in the pecking order. His time on the floor during games next year will be determined on how he performs in practices. There's not a thing wrong with competition...

My 2 cents for what its worth... :)

TJD, Miller , Race definitely gone. JHS probably. X maybe. That’s possibly 5 of 13 gone. Read comments on this board or BTOWN Banners , can’t remember which, that Duncomb not com
