  1. I came here to link what I thought were two important things about the pandemic.... here in Colorado.  But then... i saw the warning post from Blue ( who I like) about locking down this critical thread..... and decided, though what I was going to link was not political.... it just not worth it.

Guys play by the rules.  Please.

  2. Congrats.  Want pics of the wedding in the family thread.  I am very happy for you.  Wooo hoo, she said yes.  You have been a big part of Hoosier Sports Nation.

The "Family" page - Colonial Crester's Corner - Hoosier Sports Nation | Indiana Basketball and Sports Forum

Thanks for sharing.  Always said.... Hoosier Sports Nation is more than just a sports board.... it's a family board.  Happy to add another member to the board.

I watched as my mother(56) took her last breath 5 years ago. Laying in a hospital bed doped up on morphine.

The amount of effort she put into trying to get another pull of air. It appeared she could see death approaching and fought it but only for half a minute.

Squamous cell carcinoma of an unknown primary. Yeah, the unknown part of that diagnosis still haunts me. Diagnosed Jan 21. Even with treatments she didn’t make it another 4 months.

Cisplatin. That was, according to her Oncologist, the only possible chance we had. My thoughts were, how could we possibly know how to fight something that has no origin. I questioned the oncologist but my mother reassured me that she had faith that this was the very best available person to help her.

Visit after visit. The treatments were supposed to be very aggressive. There were no Tumor(s). 2 really swollen lymph nodes. We had just went through the holidays with her being normal. At least on the surface. She had told us on Thanksgiving that she was going to get checked out. She didn’t feel sick at all. Just noticed the two lumps.

She was hospitalized during the treatments for dehydration. The Cisplatin. I had read about it. It kills the kidneys. I watched her go from her normal 130lb frame to no more than skin covered bones. No hair.

Every time she was hospitalized, I would question why she was so doped up. She wouldn’t open her eyes. If she did she seen people and things that weren’t there. I had POA. Everything was supposed to go through me. Yet, nothing did. My questions and concerns were met with snark. They had a plan, I wasn’t allowed to know anything.

She died in the hospital room. Death certificate says complications of renal failure. The Cisplatin killed her.

My point? Cisplatin, COVID-19 Sars2, Cancer.... it’s all out there. But so is Great Whites, brain eating microbes, and isis when need be.

I’ve asked questions from the many Dr people in my life. I, like others, am sick and tired of all the bs. If it’s gonna burn then let it burn baby. Stop delaying the inevitable with your form of Cisplatin. The preventive measure can kill you as well. I’ve seen it happen.

So sad. Appreciate your sharing your story with us. A memory that will never go away.

I watched the monitors in a hospital room as my father slipped away.  I feel your pain.

We've all been watching The Masters for years I assume. I'm curious how much no fans comes into play. Nerves aren't there as much,etc....

I'll be curious if Augusta National tightens things up a bit tomorrow. Lowest first round scoring day ever I believe there. Feels like a trap. Haha.

I only watch golf for the Masters.  Because the course is so beautiful .

I'm not in the business of defending Maddow, but that figure was taken from a London study and it's constantly taken out of context. The study's models predicted 2.2 million deaths IF absolutely no mitigation efforts whatsoever where in place.

I am definitely not a follower of Maddow.  Regardless of where she got the info.... she broadcast as if it were a fact.  I have watched You Tube videos of her saying it.  No where did she say anything about mitigation.  Just stated it as a fact.

It’s embarrassing that Doctors Without Borders are now looking at us like some third world country. What a farce.

And I still have relatives that say this is all going away after Nov 3. It’s now the 12th and it’s NOT going away.

Though we have lost way too many, due to the pandemic.  Rachel Maddow reported when this thing first broke out in our country that by now... 2.2 million people would be dead.

I agree with you. It's not going away.  That's why I continue to stay inside except to get the paper in the morning and the mail in the afternoon.  May sound crazy.... but, then I wash my hands to "Happy Birthday"...the time I was told to take.

In fact... I am ordering more "stuff" on line, ever before,  rather than going to the store.  Have another new tv coming this weekend, that I ordered on line.... rather than going to a store to buy it.

I'm not trying to be an alarmist but some have been waiting to make this happen for awhile.  If a certain individual cant pull off a miracle a national lockdown will happen, it wont be piecemeal and the first word of it people will go berserk.

Been 8 months and I still havent seen a store above 1/4 stock of paper products and other sections some are full, others from empty to maybe half stocked.

If you have time I recommend reading about the Great Reset. I will leave it at that.

    Thanks.

Something I found as a positive.  I have a cousin who is in her 80's, and lives in Douglas County, Colorado... South of the mile household. The county is providing her with groceries, free of charge. And delivering to her house... so she does  not have to go out.  In fact, they are providing her with more food in a week than  can eat.  Mrs mile went there yesterday... and took bags of food to deliver to a food shelter.

@Muckraker Dont be a fool. Stock up, trust me. 👊

Did you not see the run on products the first time?  You seem confused but its coming. And it's going to be epic and surpass the run on TP and other stuff from the first time.

I'm telling everyone right now, at least 75% of Americans are the dumbest sonsabitches alive.  STOCK UP NOW!!  Or wipe your ass with your left hand.  I don't care, that's up to you. But its coming.

Still been hit and miss at our local Costco on everyday items, such as toilet paper.  Even having a tough time finding stuff at our local grocery store.

Just quickly.... a total shutdown has more ramifications than imaginable.  I could go on and on.  But just one example.   Suicides in our state have gone way up.

Veteran's Day edition.  Thanks for your service.

My Uncle Herb is front row center( with the hat).  According to my cousin, this is from 1945 in the South Pacific.

I served in the Army. Not the Navy. And at a later date.   However that looks like a PT boat to me.  Like the one JFK served on during WWII.  Regardless... thanks to your Uncle for serving.  Those were truly great Americans.

Ah, I misunderstood...I thought you were saying Claire Underwood was the name of the actress that played Jenny...I knew the adult Jenny was played by Robin Wright (Spicoli's ex squeeze). I haven't seen "House of Cards" where apparently that's Robin Wright's characters name?

Claire Underwood ... our nation's 47th President.  Played by Robin Wright.

For those of you who have schools in your area who are doing remote learning, do the teachers get to teach from home or do they still have to go to the school?  My district just said yesterday that we'd still have to come in to the school each day if we go remote.

My wife taught at the same school for nearly 40 years... before retiring.  Before this Covid thing.  She has two teacher friends that have taught for an equal amount of time.  Who... upon learning that they could not be in the classroom... chose to retire instead of doing remote learning.

I'm in PA and our kids have been back to school in person since late August. There have been cases at all level, though mostly at the Middle School and High Schools, but something that they've found through contact tracing is that the cases are not originating in the schools and there is very little, if no, spreading within the schools.

More credence that masks do indeed work, as our schools mask policy is pretty strict.

I live in the Cherry Creek school district here in Colorado.  Our kids have been going to class.  However... it has just been announced that starting in a couple of days..... they will have to go back to in home learning.  Also... know of a young lady attending college in Colorado.  And just hates all the restrictions put on her due to the pandemic.  May drop out because of it.

I really need to set up a compost situation here, but we have limited space. We keep our compost materials in bags and then drop them off weekly at a local community garden. Maybe one those tumbling ones that have been mentioned.

I love the fact that you actually drop off your compost materials.  Good for you.  If you are limited in space for a tumbler..... just know that they come in all kinds of sizes.   This compost.... is for YOU.

What kind of compost bins do you have?  I thought about getting one of the outdoor tumbling ones to make turning it over easy.

Boxes with lids.  I think the tumbling ones would be good.  I just use a pitch fork to turn the compost in my bins.

I kind of like the bins.... in that they are obtrusive behind my raspberry bushes.

Good idea. I really need to do a better job at this - and labeling what plants were what so I’m not surprised by them next Spring when they come back.

Compost.  Compost.  Compost.  Leaves in the Fall.  Grass clippings in the Summer.  And disposables like banana peals, potato peals, coffee and tea grounds.... the entire year.  In fact.... most Starbucks offer used coffee grounds year long.... for free.... for gardeners.

My son bought me two compost bins, a few years back.  Work it the entire year over.  But guys.... like Rico.. who have a lot of land can just build an outdoor compost pile.... and work it all year long.
