  1. The median age of Covid deaths in FL last week was.... 93. Covid deaths in Chicago under age 17- 2 Kids (under 19) shot and killed in Chicago this year- 85 This chart really highlights how NY / NJ mismanaged the crisis-
  2. Faxes should be obsolete and relegated to the history books along side floppy disks. Yet my wife still uses her fax on occasion. I use eFax a few times per year. Seems like government offices still use faxes. I scan fairly often.
  3. First toilet paper now printers? My wifes work printer died so we headed out last night to get a replacement. Costco had none. Walmart had none. Best buy was closed so went home to look online. Many on Amazon not available for 4-6 weeks. Ordered a B&W one that we found even though not exactly what we wanted. Apparently a combination of people getting them for their home offices and for kids being schooled at home. I've also heard certain appliances, especially refrigerators, are hard to come by.
  4. Expect we'll be seeing a lot more stories like this- https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2020/09/08/los-angeles-county-halloween-no-trick-or-treating-covid-19/ My wife usually gets the candy early from Costco. Probably need to hold off and see what happens here.
  5. Don't have to convince me. Explains why 26,000 college kids can be diagnosed but none hospitalized.
  6. Glad to see people catching on to what we were discussing last week. Now if only the American media would catch up....
  7. Thank Covid for your low gas prices- https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/oil-prices-tank-as-demand-drop-nears
  8. This guy includes reference links so I take this as being rather accurate. 0 college kids hospitalized out of 26,000 cases. I'd say that is a pretty decent sample size to say that there is not as much to be concerned about here as some people were fearing.
  9. I posted earlier today how overdoses were up. We know diagnostic testing and even cancer screening is was way down. I think there have to be substantial excess deaths as a result that will probably continue for years.
  10. Good news- Cases fall below 25,000! Bad (but expected) news- https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-opioid-crisis-already-serious-has-intensified-during-coronavirus-pandemic-11599557401?mod=hp_lead_pos11 Subscription article but link title says all you need to know.
  11. I can't bring myself to "like" a post of Purdue fan catching a fish. Hope you caught more than he did.
  12. Hit me overnight and this morning. Put fall fertilizer down yesterday in anticipation. With the Highs in the 70s the next 2 weeks, should really get the grass green and growing once again
  13. Hot temps in S Cal https://deadline.com/2020/09/los-angeles-county-is-feelin-hot-hot-hot-as-record-temps-bake-region-1234571806/
  14. I like the Octobefest beers. Have already tried ones from Bells and Sam Adams this year.
  15. Looking good! Was the pergola a kit? Did you build yourself? Are the lights solar or plug in? I have some solar powered lights in my Amazon cart for my arbor/swing as it's located away from the house.
  16. Pier looks nice. How long until you have to pull it for the winter?
  17. Dangerous is right. I always try to keep focused and not get complacent. I did cut the stump further down after that pic. I have 3 in that area and soon to be a fourth. Would prefer to burn but the one pine that survived is 10 ft away and they burn easily. Will let nature take its course. After rotting for a year or two, will likely try to see if they pull free with my truck. I did not have have my wedges with me and even though I was trying to be careful, my saw still got pinched during that first cut. Had to use a tow strap and my truck to relieve the pressure and extricate my saw.
  18. Alaskan Amber is one of my favorites. Believe I mentioned it earlier in this thread. Available in IL. They have great cans and merchandise as well. I keep this sweatshirt at the lake house for cool evenings. Has a built in beer pouch and bottle opener!
  19. Cut down a dead tree and burned some of it up. Have several more to go.
  20. Right! Probably should have it set to 30 cycles. Any way you slice it, positive cases have been vastly overstated influencing peoples actions and government policy accordingly.
  21. This is significant. We are identifying, and counting as cases, people who may have successfully fought off the virus months ago? https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/29/health/coronavirus-testing.html "Some of the nation’s leading public health experts are raising a new concern in the endless debate over coronavirus testing in the United States: The standard tests are diagnosing huge numbers of people who may be carrying relatively insignificant amounts of the virus. The PCR test amplifies genetic matter from the virus in cycles; the fewer cycles required, the greater the amount of virus, or viral load, in the sample. The greater the viral load, the more likely the patient is to be contagious. This number of amplification cycles needed to find the virus, called the cycle threshold, is never included in the results sent to doctors and coronavirus patients, although it could tell them how infectious the patients are. In three sets of testing data that include cycle thresholds, compiled by officials in Massachusetts, New York and Nevada, up to 90 percent of people testing positive carried barely any virus, a review by The Times found. On Thursday, the United States recorded 45,604 new coronavirus cases, according to a database maintained by The Times. If the rates of contagiousness in Massachusetts and New York were to apply nationwide, then perhaps only 4,500 of those people may actually need to isolate and submit to contact tracing."
  22. My wife is a big fan of their Summer Shandy so we always have that on hand during the summers. It can be hard to find the regular Leinkugels. I have been drinking a lot of the Goose Island White Sox ale this summer to support my boys.
  23. Some cool info in here- https://morningconsult.com/2020/08/31/tracking-consumer-comfort-with-dining-out-and-other-leisure-activities/?
