He must see the writing on the wall. It's a deep RB room,.....but also, I wonder if Trent was one of the "old Indiana players" in air quotes he was recently talking about?

That’s the first thing that came to my mind.

“But too many of them that people that follow Indiana think are players, okay, came out like the old Indiana. And that’s what we need to eliminate, that kind of habit, choice, decision, mindset.”

To be fair, it's hard to take out 7 games, that's a handful.  Lol

With that said, I am not at all concerned by it.

It will likely improve, and he immediately makes us a little better.

    Love this addition!

Agreed. Great pickup, but taking seven games out is some magical thinking. It’s like saying if you take out 13 games when Gallo went 0-40, he’s a 47% shooter. Rice has a great skill set and is a really good addition. No need for anyone to spin his game into something it isn’t at the moment.

It won’t end well when they don’t have a constant lineup of 5 stars, and become a middle of the pack SEC team. I’ll give him 3 years before he’s run out of town. Seems like a good coach though, just going to be extremely hard to meet expectations at KU.

Wait until they lose to AR at Rupp. Just like IU can never lose to MI at AH now

I'll settle for we should have positive momentum headed into the offseason before the "if Woodson doesn't do this" crowd comes in with their expectations so they can later slam him stuff.

The top teams in the B1G will all be taking a step back. If IU puts that team together, it will be the most talented team in the B1G. Expectations would be high, as they should be.

I'm not a big I told you so type of guy. Never been my make up. I say what I think and if it checks out cool....if it doesn't I'll try to understand what I wasn't seeing.

BUT....if we land Rice and Carlyle and Bollo....throw in a side dish of one of the other bigs with Hickman from outside and you add that pot of goodies to Malik, Mack, and Trey and our McD's AA Tucker....we will have something pretty serious pretty quick.

    Hope this all plays out.

That team should win the B1G and be an Elite 8 team

I pretty much assume any player could leave each year. And getting less and less interested in following HS recruiting. Just wait until the portalling is done and see what the roster looks like in August.

I think the long term successful formula is 8 returning players, 2-3 HS recruits and 2-3 portal players every year.

I struggle to believe you all wouldn't feel SIGNIFICANTLY better about our situation if Carlyle and Rice were already on our roster.

Never said that. They would be an upgrade. Only said they won't lead to more 3 pt attempts because they attempted more in a different system. Those are two different things.

I'm not sure what TJD, Kopp, and JHS have to do with this though.

Kopp was used correctly, I hate to break it to everyone.  He was inefficient as shit at NW when given the opportunity to have offense ran through him.

We played two PGs who don't shoot 3s last year... we are (probably) adding two PGs who shoot considerably more 3s than what we played last year. Seems simple.

JHS was 33%, Kopp 44% and Gallo 46% last year. TJD was excellent at passing out to wings for open shots. Yet, they attempted the same number of 3 point shots as this season. I don't see how adding two players who shoot threes at a lower percentage will lead to more attempts. Yes, Rice attempted more threes last year at WSU, but he missed 22 straight to end the season.

@kyhoosier29 last season--- XJ Cupps TG Malik Ware MM and Leal combined to shoot 14.4 3s per game.... specifically XJ+Cupps combined to shoot 2.7 3s per game.

Rice+Carlyle shot 8 3s per game just by themselves. So... taking out Cupps+XJ and inserting Rice+KC would move that grouping to 19.7 3s per game....

Now.. we will lose Ware's 1.3 3 attempts per game... I think adding a Hickman, improvements from Malik+MM could make that "3 point number" more like 21-22 attempts a game. That moves us to the middle of the road in 3pt attempts per game. 🙏

Of course, that assumes the new players can maintain their shots per game in our system of post first.

Correct. IU averaged 15.5 3 point attempts in 23-24. How many did they average the prior season with JHS and Miller Kopp and an excellent post passer in TJD? 15.5. They aren't going to attempt 21+ per game.

  10. Jeff Borzello: Kentucky clearly took big swings in the hours and days after John Calipari left for Arkansas. Jay Wright distanced himself from the job quickly, as did Hurley and Donovan. Kentucky reached out to Nate Oats, who released a statement saying he was staying at Alabama. Shaka Smart was on the list; he also wasn't leaving. Drew mulled the decision for a day but declined. Kentucky made one more run at Hurley, offering him a huge salary -- but he once again decided to stay. And that left Pope as the next name on the list, a former Kentucky player who won a national championship in Lexington. The potential targets on the next tier were all flawed in one way or another, and Pope's connections to the school and understanding of the expectations gave him an edge.
Pope doesn't have the résumé some of the other potential candidates possessed, never winning an NCAA tournament game or a regular-season title and spending only one year coaching in a high-major conference. But he's got some name recognition, especially in Lexington, and he'll understand what being the head coach of Kentucky entails. The expectations are going to be enormous from day one, however, something he hasn't dealt with during his time at Utah Valley and BYU.

Mario Lemeuix won an NHL scoring title in 1992 while missing time and playing through Hodgkin’s radiation treatments….and both medical science and training techniques have come a long way since then. If the docs are giving him the all clear, I’d assume he’s full speed ahead.

Oh, I assume so and hope so as well

I crazier than a wild raccoon. With Drew it sounds more it is his family didn't want to move. I guess their airplane had to be diverted to another airport because there was to many media and fans at the original airport. The wife didn't want to deal with that much if a circus.

So next time we have an opening don'r expect Scott Drew to be the next coach.

    He’ll never leave Baylor

Wouldn’t be surprised if it isn't Oates. I know he’s said he’s not interested, but I’m sure he could be convinced now that Hurley and Drew have said no.

Right. Oats currently making $6M at a football school that is currently finishing ahead of KY. Why go there?
