It will be really interesting with May. He's a different cat. He won't chase money. It will probably require the perfect situation for him to leave FAU.
But do not expect Dusty to trade in the trusty bike he bought used 10 years ago and rides to the office when he has the time for a shiny new model. The man who describes himself as "frugal" is not about material things.
And certainly not about money.
"Dusty is certainly not motivated by money," Anna said. "We have learned that over the years, it's not always greener on the other side."
"Coach May is building on the standard we set here," FAU forward Giancarlo Rosado said. "He's really standing on what he told us. He's not a guy that says one thing and then goes and does another. He's bought into this program. Even though he's offered millions of dollars other places, he's leading by example."
"I learned a long time ago you never mess with happy," he (May) said. "And so I know what makes me happy, and right now at this point in my career I couldn't be any more pleased and happy with where we are."
man. i would love for him to stay put. after this season we'll definitely be looking for a new coach. while i would take a bigger name with more big time experience like Pearl, i'd like for May to at least be available. if he goes somewhere, i hope it is immediately and to a place that he would eventually still leave for IU. would be pretty awesome to get Pearl for a few years, the go to May after he has experience at a bigger school and Pearl is ready to hang it up! still say Beard would be nice for present and future.

not thinking this means much at all either way. my son, who already informed coach that he isn't coming back is currently training kids in the campus facilities. he's just trying to make money before leaving.

So... if I were building it from the guys we have currently contacted, I'd go:
PG-Carlyle
SG-Slajchert
F - Fidler
F - Ajayi
C - Amari Williams
I don't know much about these guys though. Maybe Leffew over someone? Maybe Gillespie over someone? How many guys do we take before we know who else will be available after the tourney? I think like recruiting high school kids you have a tier of guys you'll take any time they'll give a commitment and a tier you wait and see if you can get better right? Any thoughts on ranking our current targets and where that cut off currently is?

Just committed to Arizona, in the '24 class. I'm going to be real curious to hear whatever it was his handler wanted that we weren't willing to give, but Arizona was.
a winning program?

Every player reacts that way on the court. This is Reneau after the season ended to Nebraska. I'm rooting for this kid:
again, i am a fan of MR. i will have to disagree that he isn't excessive in his reaction to every single foul. that annoys me and every IU fan that i know. maybe not you? other than that, i hope he is back personally.

... i can hear Woodson's post game interview for next season already... "We have a lot of new faces man. I just have to get them over the hump."

Number one has to occur first, which I’m becoming skeptical of happening. Yes, he did get ware and Mgbako, though Mgbako came to him, but struck out pretty much after that. Getting so many new players to mesh is going to be an issue if he can bring in some talent.
want to comment on the odds of it meshing, but will jump back over to the Fire Mike Woodson thread...

Dusty May could very well be a better coach than Mike Woodson. But, he should NOT be in the top 3 on the IU candidate list.
Yes, his team made one magical run to the Final Four. News flash. They would not even be in this year's tournament if they had not done that.
Heck, you want to base it on one tournament run, then let's go hire Kevin Ollie. He won the whole damn thing and look at where he is now.
he's not my first choice, but he's high enough that if it meant we could get rid of Woodson now and start moving in the right direction, i'd be very happy with it. i'd be happier if it were Pearl or Beard. not sure who else is even in the conversation? Shrewsberry? Oates? Musselman? i'd take every single one over Woodson today. if waiting another year meant we could get one of those guys that we couldn't get this year, okay i guess. it's just that if the powers that be are out on Beard and Pearl and Oates and Musselman aren't possibilities, let's take Dusty today.

My least favorite effect of a losing season is the compulsion some feel to then shit all over absolutely everything connected to the program. As though there is nothing of worth to be found from the wreckage. Some of y'all need to be better at holding two thoughts in your head at the same time.
We're calling for Malik Reneau to transfer? Really? The kid has flaws in his game, sure. This is college, everyone does. He'll be the first to tell you he fouls too much, as anyone who saw his post game interview can attest. He's also just a sophomore, took a leap last year, and there's no reason think he won't continue improving. Already he was comfortably our second best player last season. If you're worrying about all the spots we have to fill in the portal, why would you want that guy to leave?
There are rumors Malik might transfer, and it's because he's getting serious offers from other schools. Programs that see the value he has and believe he can contribute to winning. But y'all want to cut him loose, I guess because we lost a lot of games in a season where everyone knew our backcourt was going to be a concern. You want players who stick at Indiana for multiple seasons? You want players who develop and improve? Then you want Malik Reneau.
i pretty much agree with you, but not that Malik would be the first to admit he fouls too much. i don't think Malik believes he has ever committed a foul.

To me there are ways to handle all of that offensively but not with Woodson's stone age offense.
agreed. i get that you have to make some promises when recruiting. however, you can also explain why you need to switch it up some here and there, etc. should be able to sell that to them as the coach.
-
it is quite the conundrum. Reneau is better suited offensively as the 5 but defensively as the 4. and doesn't want to play the 5. Mtaco is better suited as a 4, but doesn't want to play there. is Galloway really a 2? or a 1? ugh. here we go again. still think Taco isn't back though.

was just reading that even with all the success Bennett has had at VA, he is saying he needs to take a look at the system he is running and consider change.

as much as i'm cheering to land studs in the portal, then i get frustrated thinking - if they're willing to throw all this money at guys, it's a shame they aren't willing to get a good coach AND throw all that money at those players. wouldn't that be a nice combo?

1 Fire Woodson
2 Go hard after:
Brandon Garrison – OK St.
Andrej Stojakovic-Stanford
Kanaan Carlyle-Stanford
Michael Ajayi – Pepperdine
Amari Williams – Drexel
Frankie Fidler – Nebraska Omaha
Dakota Leffew- Mt. St. Mary’s
Clark Slajchert-Penn
When the tourney ends go after the top 10 guys available at that point.

is it true that May is in talks to become Louisville coach?

I'm having trouble understanding this one. What is the complaint here? Just scrolling through Joe Tipton's twitter, I see us linked with Michael Ajayi (3rd on 247), Amari Williams (4th), Frankie Fidler (9th), Dakota Leffew (10th).
it updates so fast that i hadn't refreshed to see Fidler or Leffew ranked. i saw Ajayi. think i did see Williams. not bad. i know we can't be in on all. any idea if 1,2, and 5 are more less already committed elsewhere?

Not saying that this was the entire reason Liam transferred, but I'm sure it was a factor.
MM potentially coming back is a good thing though. A sophomore MM is probably better than a Freshman McNeely.
...BUT even better would've been MM at the 4 and McNeely at the 3 (who cares about rebounds). lol.
still would be very surprised to see Mtaco a Hoosier next season.

so i posted in the transfer portal thread about the top guys according to 247. why do i not see those names on here? we already know where they are going? i just figured we have this huge amount of money and assurance that Woodson will have all the resources to bring in a new team, so we should be in on Garrison, McDaniel, Porter, etc. right?
-
figured i'd check this thread out. i pretty much stick to the general discussion board. so who all do we have for the 2024 class? what did i miss?

It was. Who knows what the reason is for the departure.
hate it for him. love how hard he plays. seems like a good thing for us as much as i hate to see it. maybe he is getting "Creaned?" remember when we used to call it that? LOL. anyway, i hope he is gone, but wish him the best.

my number one hope is that we go absolutely insane in the portal. of course then we have no idea how they will gel and what kind of bball they'll play, but i can at least get excited heading into the season. i mean this way i can at least keep checking out who is available and hoping we get good ones just like recruiting? that said, i am super curious if we lose 6? 7? 8? 9? guys? if we lose as many as 8 or 9 and he doesn't do a good job even with all this money thrown at trying to save him, maybe there is still a chance even Buckner can't save him?

I mean I know this is kind of a basic statement, but we will need an absolute minimum of 6 scholarship players. I would be shocked if we don't need 7, 8, or 9 even. So... it seems we can target at least out top 10 or so of the current available guys and kind of draw a line where we aren't 100% we'd want them? If you are able to land 3 or 4 and then 3 or 4 more when they tourney ends? This all happens fast. I see that Rice, Williams, and Tomlin for instance are already crystal balled. We know many of these kids enter already having a really good idea of where they are going, so we really can't wait right? Looking at the current 247 rankings:
1. Garrison
2. McDaniel
3. Ajayi
4. Mallette
5. Porter
6. Amari Williams
7. Stojakovic
8. Carlyle
9. Slajchert
10. Small
11. Glenn
12. Curtis Williams
13. Cooper
14. Crews
15. Smith
Any reason we wouldn't want any of those guys? I know nothing regarding attitude, shadiness, etc. about any of them. Would be interested to hear if anyone does? I'm sure many of them already have a good idea of where they are headed. Any info on that would be interesting as well.
