  1. i kinda get Al if we're looking at next year already, but not RP. i also don't think it's time to look to next year yet.
  2. i think Lander should start if... we are conceding this season. i don't think any o us think that though, right? Rob is better right now. not sure how this is much of an argument. is Lander's upside higher? absolutely! should he start playing more and more? absolutely. is he going to help us win more games if he is playing more of a role than RP right now? no sir. i'm not even worried about his defense. he is out of control with the ball, his passing, and shot selection. he is making a huge adjustment at a very high level a year early. he'll come around, but not yet.
  3. i have never understood the theory that someone is a bad shooter, but at least they shoot a lot and then a criticism that a guy doesn't shoot enough. just because you're confident enough to shoot doesn't help if you miss most of them.
  4. Howard fits the Penny Hardaway mold of the new wave of coaching. more about your name than anything. they can fool some recruits into coming, but have no coaching experience and will be exposed sooner than later.
  5. Creighton also has Alex O'Connell who is not playing due to injury right now. wish he would have transferred to IU to give us a shooter. guess it wouldn't help if he is injured though.
  6. maybe, but he is also Duke's leading scorer on the season thus far.
  7. couldn't be any better! as long as Purdouche loses (and they blew a 20 point lead) and we win the rest, i'm good! so nice living in ACC country to have the B1G take it to them. Iowa is very good. they can shoot the lights out. were hot 1st half and cold 2nd, but they have multiple shooters, move the ball well, and they have Garza. if i were allowed to say they will kick us in the teeth, i would, but i'm going to be positive... we've got a chance!
  8. It's blow "hard" BTW, but one of the problems with Cal's model is that you get all of these talented kids who are not going to respond well to criticism, tough coaching, etc. I know Cal says otherwise, but I don't buy it. When you only have kids like that for 1-2 years, you don't have a good enough relationship to be tough and hold them accountable.
  9. the outlook on Asheville is really surprising. much different from how i have experienced it and how i would describe it. i love it there. Hilton Head is pretty awesome. have had many great times in Myrtle Beach as well. to each their own.
  10. i sure hope he's ready quickly! think about our team without TJD and Al next year. starting 5? Lander, RP, Franklin, Hunter, Thompson? Galloway? very small. better hope for transfers?
  11. i respect Few about as much as any coach i can think of. he could have jumped so many times to so many places for more money, higher profile, whatever, but he stays at Gonzaga and takes them from little known to Cinderella, national contenders. i respect that way more than jumping at the next opportunity like so many up and coming coaches.
  12. no. not saying it was a bad signing. arguing whether he should be shooting 3s or not. i did personally say that i feel like we need more guys in the 35-80 range than having almost all 90-120.
  13. i get your point, but what i mean by that is they'd take a guy and let him know where his shot selection should come from and the offense would be more set around different guys taking different shots, but most offenses now are built around dribble/drive - kick out and all are expected to be able to do the same thing.
  14. i mean the bottom line is that the game has changed so much and a lot of us old guys hate the new game. i get it. we're dinosaurs, but my opinion is that it all depends in the offensive philosophy. back in the day, you put guys in positions to take shots that they should be taking. unfortunately for me, the new game is not the same. everyone is expected to shoot the 3. i certainly don't argue that everyone should work on expanding their range, but only in the offseason or practice if they're not ready for games and i sure wish they'd work more on being really really good from down low or 12-15 feet first!
  15. well, what i mean by that is if they are working on it and therefore taking them in games, but shooting a low percentage, it hurts the team. it seems like those guys are always trying to prove they can hit those shots before they are ready and shoot bad shots at low percentages.
  16. i think the obvious thing is that if you're going to be a big in the NBA game these days you have to shoot outside. i hate it so much, but it is what it is. as a college fan, it kills me to see guys working on becoming that to the detriment of the team, but better for their long term career. you know?
  17. we agree for once Scott! i'm happy if a guy can dominate down low and step out and hit a 12-15 footer.
  18. see i'm with Mile on this. one of the rare times we disagree BGleas. i saw somewhere that a coach said he was a post player that knows he is a post player. i like old school. i don't need my center working on his outside game.
  19. as usual, totally agree. people always say rankings don't matter, and i get it... sometimes they are way off. that said 35-80 ranked guys any day of the week! politics some times play into where they get jumbled, potential, etc, etc., but it sounds like we're landing almost all of that 80-130 range right now. sure 1 or 2 are fine, but give me at least a couple in the 15-35 range an the rest in 35-80. no, i don't want Cal's group of all 5 star guys (or at least don't expect it!). i agree with the other poster that said it's about how they fit together and play together, but talent does matter!
  20. i battle with many of you about how important rankings are every time recruits come up. i will admit that i think one of the most important things is what other schools offered, BUT... i still stick with we have guys ranked 99, 128, and 132 coming in this season. hopefully Lander too. now we have 106 coming in 2021. sure guys can be underrated and hey can overachieve, but i don't exactly count that as killin it! we need a nice mix of these #99-132 kids, but a couple more studs like Lander to really expect much.
  21. i haven't read a lot of the last few posts on this thread, but i was watching a replay yesterday and holy crap that 2012 team was loaded! such a nice balance of a true PG, shooter, athletic 3, versatile 4 and solid 5 that could run the floor. it is tough to take when you think about not getting past the Sweet 16.
