Understandable — we all want to talk about important current events — but we’re not going to talk politics here, and frankly that’s a good thing.

I feel its partially my fault.  I took the bait.  Should  have known better. Didnt intend it to be political.

I would love to see the rabbit that could get to your plants!

I planted 3 fennel plants. Planning on eating 2 of them, and I'm going to try to get the seeds from the 3rd one. Never done that before, but I love fennel seeds.  I planned on doing some artichokes, but they didn't make the move well when I planted them in bigger pots this spring.

Have 4 fennel plants myself. Did not think of letting one go to seed. May try that.

Fennel and beets roasted in the oven on a sheet pan are delicious. Olive oil, some salt and pepper and about 20 minutes at 425.

  3. Maybe @rico can provide some insight.  I would, around me, say maybe 20% of fields are planted. Most havent even been touched. One of my wifes clients and her husband own 500 acres outside Columbus.  He was talking about his farmers having trouble getting seed because of coronavirus.  And corn prices are down, ethanol production down.  At rural today 1 gallon jug of 80% alcohol was $42.

The downstream effects of this economic shutdown worry me some.

    So what?

I have basically stayed out of this whole debate because I’ve been working long hours and haven’t had time to do anything but read here occasionally. What I see is a country that is being destroyed. I’m so tired of the arguments for keeping everybody locked up, until when? Seriously, if you are that damn worried stay at home. Let me decide if I want to take the risk of living my life. There will not be a workable vaccine for this virus anytime soon. If they do come out with an RNA vaccine in the next two years, there is no way in hell I will allow anyone in my family to get it (look into RNA vaccines and the ferret studies). Keep your immune system strong (eat healthy, take vitamins C and D3) and be sensible interacting with other people (wash up, wear a mask if you need to). Most importantly pray. Individual responsibility seems to be lost in today’s world, just let me be responsible fo myself and my family.

There will likely never be a vaccine for this. It will be another flu shot.

If I'm wrong I'm wrong and I will eat crow,  but I have been consistent, so give me that. I have been saying from the start, let it burn through and do what viruses do.

Dr. Douche and the others crowing on about a second wave are responsible for that if it even happens. And I predict it wont.

    Let's get back to life!

Despite the decrease in the U.S. numbers the last couple of weeks, The U.S.  had more deaths yesterday alone (1,083) than Japan has had total (900).  And, if memory serves me correctly, that Japanese population is statistically older than the U.S. population.   Yet, I've seen nothing related to the Japanese approach to defending against the virus.  Anyone have any insight into how Japan has avoided what's happened in most other industrialized nations?

My guess is a healthier population with a diet high in omega 3 fats.

if you read the abstract, omega 3 fats are made of EPA and DHA fatty acids

    My chart of the day...

Surprising that the least open and most open states share the same downward trajectory in new cases.

    7. Positive Test Rates Are Trending Down Nationwide, Including in the Most Open States. Data available on request.

Maybe it's because the virus was going to run it's natural course no matter what we did because that's what viruses do?

  7. Be prepared to spend at least half a day in there. Been to the aquarium, museum of natural history, and science and industry. I had to go up there 3 times just to go to them all.

Still want to go the the Pritzker military museum but every frickin time I've tried they were closed for one reason or another.

It's funny. As I enter this garden game it reminds of when I had a pontoon at Lake Monroe. The boat was cheap (just like the plants are) it's all the ancillary expenses that go with this game. Haha!

I was asked one time if gardening saved money. For me it doesnt really but it allows me to grow varieties of tomatoes and peppers you cant buy at any store.

And need a cucumber for a salad, I go pick one. The stuff you grow yourself seems to taste better.

Might check out a gurneys catalog for next year. But beware, you will want to turn your yard into a small farm.

moderna moves into phase 3. And mass production will start. If the vaccine performs well in this trial for 30k people 100 million doses will be available by 2021. If not we’ll have a lot of useless vaccine on our hands. 🤞

Edit/add: I am by no means and antivaxer, but is anybody concerned about the possibility of long term side effects of a vaccine that could potentially be cleared in 6 months. Keeping in mind that many times vaccines are studied for 5 or more years before they are used on the general population? Another thing that concerns me is will there be more pressure to clear the vaccine if 100 million doses were already made? I know we don't have much of an option; just thinking out loud.

My main concern is whether or not they try to make it mandatory.  If it is voluntary like the flu then go for it and we can monitor side effects.  I just don't think there is enough information about coronavirus to be making a decision like that.

Anyone with a real good baked beans recipe? I probably need to check my family cookbook because family reunions are always on point. I typically go lazy and just get some of the bush grillin beans.

Here is what I do, and I don't measure anything, I just go by taste.

    bacon(cooked about halfway)

    green pepper, onion, garlic

    brown sugar, ketchup, mustard

Sweat the green pepper, onion, and garlic then add in beans and the rest and mix. Then transfer to a baking dish and put bacon on top.

Bake at 325, I usually let it go an hour before checking.  Bake until it looks like, and has the consistency you want.

That's the main recipe but you can add or substitute whatever, like adding in jalapenos.

One thing i've been wanting to do is use maple syrup or honey instead of brown sugar.
