I'm a big fan of Springfield. My wife and I both have the mod2 9mm and I have their Saint.

Thanks for the tip on the Streamlight. Will be going on my birthday/ Christmas list.

Havent had a chance to shoot mine but like how it handles. I have a week off in July so will break it in then.

Looking at this one and this one...I don't need anything elaborate. A friend of mine has his bolted to a drawer on his nightstand and I thought I'd do the same...When I buy, I'll post it.

Home/personal defense. I looked at the Streamlight 69280 TLR-6. Good reviews, but I'd appreciate your thoughts...

Looks good to me. I would get option with the laser and save $25. Laser just helps guide you to your target, not meant for aiming but handy to have.

With this news, 2 million new gun owners in first half of 2020 I thought this thread relevant...

I had guns as a teen and young adult (CVA 50 cal mountain rifle, Remington single shot .410) but never a handgun. Had to qualify every year in the military (.45 and M-16) but with kids in the house, I wouldn't have one...

Went out yesterday and bought a Glock 48 9mm. Scheduled a gun course for me and my wife (she has shot one before but it's been 35 years), and an LTC class after that.

Looking for a biometric safe now...

Did you you get it for target shooting or home defense?

I get a new gun every year as a Christmas or birthday present.  My latest is a Springfield XD9 for my birthday back in April.

If for home defense consider getting and laser/flashlight combo.

Well, since it is the end of June, and the story was written today, that headline is very misleading.  It says 'could be', which I would naturally interpret to be based on today's numbers.  If the intent was to only reflect what was going on in March, then the headline should have said 'Could have been 80 times higher in March'.

I won't get into it here, but I was just telling my cat how this was another example of the incompetent reporting or intentional misrepresentation by the media.

Agree the headline was poorly written.

    Link to study.

    This is from the report.

"The goal of our study was to use publicly available data to estimate the number of patients seeking care for non-influenza ILI in excess of seasonal trends during the three weeks spanning March 8 to March 28, 2020 and then use this ILI surge to estimate COVID-19 incidence in March and parameterize epidemiological model growth rates and clinical rates."

With 2,500,000 'confirmed' cases, that would put infections in the U.S. at about 200,000,000.  The U'S. population is about 331,000,000.

The 80 times higher was based on the 100,000 cases between march 8 - 28th. So the study estimated 8.7 million cases during that same time period using cdc flu like illness data.

There were 2.8 million cases with flu like symptoms not attributed to flu during that time.

So the 80 times is referring to the outbreak during that specific time period compared to the 100,000 known cases.

  6. So I just realized something and thought I would put it out there.  The last week to receive the extra $600 pandemic unemployment insurance will be for the week ending July 25th.

It ends on July 31st which is a Friday so they wont pay on claims filed after that under the current rules.

Have you ever heard of the rainbow bridge short story/poem? It’s something you should read if you haven’t. It’s a kind of nice thing to read after losing a good pup.

My wife and I lost a kitty about this time last year. We had her cremated.  And the poem came with her ashes. I struggled through it. But my wife still hasn't been able to read it. I just hope it's true.

Another day in the mile household during a pandemic.  Mrs. mile's driver's license expires on July 3. So today. We thought it would be a good time to get on line to see what we need to do to renew.   Found out that we had to set an appointment. For an office miles from out house, while the office just minutes from our house is closed indefinitely.  And the earliest available appointment  was July 9.  So we called the Colorado DMV, concerned about going past the renewal date.  Put on hold for 31 minutes. Only to be told we got the wrong department.  Gave us the number to call about driver license renewals. This was just after 11 a.m. this morning. Called the driver's license number.... only to hear a recording that they were no longer taking calls for the day. We went ahead and set an appointment for July 9. And have a confirmation.

Reminds me, my plates are due every year on 4-28.  Last year, out of curiosity I didnt renew so I could see what happened.  Finally got pulled over by Bloomington PD in August. No ticket, no warning.  Officer asked why they hadn't been renewed. Said I thought the wife had taken care of it and that I would renew as soon as I got home.

ugh. My wife got sent home from work today. An aid at their clinic got a positive test result after having symptoms last week. My wife can't go back to work until 14 days after last contact, which will be next week Tuesday. She hasn't had any symptoms yet - it's been 8 days, so we are pretty sure we're in the clear.

But apparently the aid was not being careful, going out like normal, hanging with friends, etc. Kinda goes to show you how your actions don't impact just yourself, they set off a chain of events. In this case, the employees she came in contact with can't work and are forced to take PTO (if they have any left after all of this), another employee has a husband who is very compromised at home and the company now has to shut down 2 clinics temporarily for deep cleaning. I'm sure the aid feels horrible, it's not like she's a bad person....but prior careless actions can't be taken back after you test positive.

Dont waste the PTO. Your wife can get unemployment.  Will take 2-3 weeks. But I got it for the week I was off. Employers dont want employees taking unemployment and actively discourage it. But the way it's set up right now if she is being forced to quarantine then it is all but guaranteed.  I got $846 after tax for the week I claimed.

  10. Always let some know where you are when you go outdoors.  A few years ago was hiking in brown county while camping with the wife. Sprained my ankle on the trail for the umpteenth time in my life. Not the worst but still had to hobble, hop, and drag my fat ass 3/4 mile uphill to the parking lot.

When outdoors keep you legs, ankles, and feet healthy.

  11. So even though I know their names will changed we named the kittens.

Light grey-lil squeak after his momma who doesnt really meow but has a raspy squeak.

Stripy one-Tyson, because he has tiger stripes and Mike Tyson owned tigers and I want have tigers too.

Not Sure- the black looking one has a bent tail tip and we dont know yet which way it will go. Named after Average Joe from the movie Idiocracy.  You should watch it.

Orange kitten - TRUMP, well duh. Lol.

Enjoy the pic. They have a good home when ready.
