It’s going to be awfully boring all summer if we go back to debating Woody. It’s well trodden at this point. We all are counting on success this year.
My view is that the success in the portal is a huge feather in our cap and will be a huge boon to us with regard to attracting the next coach. It’s all a win-win.

I’m not a Baba Miller expert but on a brief glimpse he looks like he could legit play 4 or 5. I think there are minutes to be had for him.

I don't think that Miller will happen.
Is the Monmouth center still in the mix?

The staff has quietly accumulated a very good start to this class. We seem to be far ahead of historical norms in terms of collecting higher end players.

I want Ponds!!
Buuuut.. I don't think the lack of size is going to make them only slots corners.
Basically, so far, our staff has shown to not care (currently) about the size of any of these defensive guys. We've grabbed undersized dudes at all three levels.
Player development is going to be huge. It sure looks like we have a good staff and it’s going to be huge across the board, but the corners definitely highlight its importance. I like our prospects at corner but most of them are unproven play after play at this level. A guy like Sharpe is right out of central casting as to what a corner looks like getting off the bus. Now let’s see how this group develops. Talent is there and Cignetti is process oriented as he says.

Also this happened:
With the loss of Minor and picking up Warnell, I wonder if Toomer moves back to corner? Feels like we need another boundary corner with solid size. Hoping guys like JoJo Johnson, Jamier Johnson and Jamari Sharpe take a step forward. I’d think we’d want one more upperclassman transfer.
Our slot corners seem solid with the transfers like Doss and the new JMU player who looks like he might be coming.

I’m constantly looking for IU gear to buy and the offerings are pathetic. I can’t be the only one itching to literally spend money and it’s a big fail. Compare it to, say, Michigan gear and we need Adidas to improve it. I live in Chicago and see basically gear of the entire conference continually and we need an upgrade.
I 100% agree that making the coaches gear available would be a hell of a start.

The way the roster is set currently, I see Goode regularly playing the 4. Who else is going to get those minutes, based on the roster?
MR/MM are the only 4s on that roster and we aren't recruiting one.
That’s a good point. Maybe it will signal that Woody will play four out, at least for stretches.

Unless we had a kid willing to come in and redshirt Hemingway would be a perfect fit. A home state kid. Used to playing limited minutes and having a defined role. If he catches a heater you ride him. Plays 2-3 and compliments Goode who will help at the 3-4. Veteran kid…with tons of bball experience playing at a high level. Won’t blink at the competition.
I can’t imagine Woody would actually play Goode at the 4. He wants a different element. Maybe for a minute or two but not a regular thing.

Could Myles potentially be better that JHS? I sure like the what he brings......
I really like Myles’ game. He can really get in the lane and create. He is really savvy, knows how to change speeds to get defender on his hip.
Carlyle seems to bring a different element in that he’s more electric but maybe not as savvy. But let Rice control the ball and put Carlyle off it and they can potentially be lethal together.
People would say we had talent last year. Yet as a group we had subpar guards and that’s basically a proven fact. You can’t have guards like that and then claim you’ve got talent.

Comes across as a great kid and well grounded. I’m sure Gard and those other guys will try to bombard him with negative recruiting to get him out of Indiana. Hopefully he sees through it.

Figured he might be a pipe dream with all the other additions but man...I wanted him.
Yep. Him and Ryan Conwell.
But we had a good plan and we are executing on it. Maybe you don’t get Rice if you don’t get Carylye. Etc. Can’t get everyone and Goode was a nice fit.

He's not exhausted his eligibility if he's in the transfer portal, Tom...
He’s such a buffoon. Always defensive. Hopefully he stays there another ten years.

Great news. Perfect fit!

All jokes aside, he looks like a rugged presence inside and looks like a solid backup.

What I’d give to hear Harry Caray try to pronounce that name midway through his 2nd 12 pack.
He makes Haris Mujezinovic sound like John Smith. I think it’s safe to say he’s going by Nikita.

Just came here to post the same thing. I think Sparks might have a better vertical than him lmao. Can someone tell him that he’s 6’ 10” and it’s ok to dunk?
In the 4th clip, did he take four or five steps? I lost count after three.

Not worried at all about that nonsense. That sounds like someone trying for clickbait. As a bears fan I’m excited for Caleb to be a bear and all of the bears fans I know are as well.

I haven't dialed in yet because of focus on hoops but here's where I'm at with Coach Cignetti. If he needs to send kids packing or whatever you want to call it so be it. I mean no disrespect to CTA and his time but if CC needs to ship dead wood so be it.
In the portal/NIL era, you absolutely have to have some tough conversations with some players.

Yeah my crimson colored glasses that day were thick. Kid sucks.
"6'6 long athletic" should have trusted my initial evaluation.
No worries, my friend. I would hate to be called out on every thing I post. No one is going to be clean by that definition. We are all IU fans and want the best.

The 13th scholarship is not the same issue year over year. This year after Goode and a big man sign, it wont be critical. That’s because the roster fits together.
Last year, the offseason was an unmitigated disaster. The missing player wasn’t the 13th man. It was a significant player in the rotation that they didn’t fill.
It is two different things. If you’re good with 12 this year no one should have any confusion whatsoever that that would excuse what happened with last season’s roster. They bombed on it and all you can do with that is try to improve on your decision making. But that’s the thing with sports. The record sticks. The good news is that the next year is a fresh start.

IUFB Roster 2024
in General Football Discussion

The huge wave of JMU players transferring to IU tells you all you need to know about what they think of Cignetti and his staff. Across the board, and not just here and there, these players believe in the staff and trust them as coaches to optimize their abilities.
