  1. I like Reneau in the post on offense but his defense and rebounding wouldn’t be good enough, as of now at least.   He can also improve his passing.

Ballo from what I saw (not a ton, mind you) can come out and hunt screens.  That might be a clever way to give Reneau space inside.
But on D he can be essential.

I love seeing how trends in uniforms come and go.  When I was in high school, a uniform that tight, shorts that high and socks that long would have been laughed off the court.

I'm waiting for one company/designer to take the big leap and actually have shorts with a belt as a "throwback" 😂

That said....I like that one.  The stripes on the side...very nice.

You would have enjoyed the short shorts we wore in the 1980s.  🤦‍♂️

  3. I had been a backer of hers but mainly because the last president was incompetent.  However, and I don’t have any dogs in these fights, I do know enough about large business and leadership to know that this isn’t good leadership.  Good leadership  can find compromise and creative solutions to resolve competing interests particularly in a university where exchange of thought is critical.  This will bear watching but I wouldn’t call this a ringing endorsement of her ability.  We will see if she recovers.

  4. Regarding Indiana State, I posted this a couple of months ago, but I think they probably would have finished third in the B1G.  Granted, it was a pathetic league this year, but after Purdue and Illinois, I think they were better.  They got totally screwed by big school bias in the tourney.  The proof is basically that all their starters are switching out to big schools. So, by definition, they had big school talent.  Kent and Larry moved to Texas.  Duke and a host of other big schools mentioned with Avila.  We know about Conwell.  Etc.

All the other coaches: IU hasn't had anyone that can shoot in the last 3 years

Woodson: See why we need you? You'd be a staple for us, not a "nice to have".

    Salesmanship 101.

I was pounding the table on Conway as early as anyone so I am not going to walk it back now.  I truly think he’s the perfect starting two guard for us.  Tough kid, plays hard, good shooter.  I think he would go to the top of Woody’s favorite players if we were to get him.

If Carlyle and Rice were a package deal and were sold on being a combo, then that’s smart recruiting through because you get two dynamic guys in here.

But I do think Conwell would start and Carlyle would have still gotten heavy minutes in a rotation since he can come in at either guard spot.  If we want to really go for it, that would be a very strong team.

I do hope though that Woody can get the bad shot selection out of Carlyle.  Let’s get back to smart Indiana basketball.  Woody is part of that.  We should have enough depth to deal with that.  It makes the players better for their own good.

Maybe Conwell is butt hurt we didn’t go after him sooner as in previous years, high school, beginning of portal this year.

I would be surprised if that’s it.  Rabjohns is saying that other schools recruiting him are using negative recruiting to show him IU’s numbers with guard shooting.   The actual data is what we have to overcome.

One other thing to note, Carlyle shot 42% from 3 in his first 12 games (he missed the first 8 games of the season due to academic reasons) and only 21% in his last 11 games...maybe another "freshman wall" thing, and there are questions surrounding his shot selection, but he sounds and looks like (limited highlights) a really good player with an enormous upside...he's already on some NBA draft boards...

Good point about the freshman wall.  It is a real thing.  Let’s be honest, playing heavy minutes as a freshman is a tough adjustment and you can anticipate a big jump with experience.  How much easier is almost anything after you’ve been through it.

The fan reaction to Connor Essegian intrigues me. As a freshman he was a 36% shooter from three, on over 5 shots per game. The label of knockdown shooter was born.

But last year he was only 30%. His minutes fell way off, but his 3P attempt rate actually went up, as though he knew he was in there to do one thing.

So if he commits here, will we think we're getting the starter with good shooting percentage? Or are we getting the bench player who couldn't find that rhythm? Always fascinates me who gets called a Shooter and who doesn't.

I followed him pretty closely last year since I saw him as a portal target.  In a nutshell he had a bad back his sophomore year that really hurt him.  Also, Gard was VERY down in his defense.  Openly.

I would not have been in favor of him as a starter as some sort of panacea.  But, as an 8th or 9th who can come in and shoot, he’d be an asset I think.  I like the size.  If his back gets healthy I think he can be solid in a role situation.

  9. RIP Whitey.  Very innovative manager.   I am not a Cards fan, but he was great.

Didn't he swap Todd Worrell (righty) and Ken Dayley (southpaw) in right field and on the mound at one point?  I have a recollection of him thinking outside the box like that.
