Nembhard wins that matchup imo.  Also, Few outshines Painter.

I have never been a huge Few guy.  Fine coach.  Racks up wins in a safe environment but doesn’t show much when the going gets tough.  The guy who I like is Tommy Lloyd his ex assistant. He got a $6 M deal at Arizona which has been far better than us for 20 years but the passion and exposure is bigger here but for our ineptitude and dysfunction.  But man I’d make a run at him with $10M and not bleep around to say IU is serious.  He’d be a great match here.   He’s got an urgency and passion that we have lacked but he also has the roster construction and strategic skills.

No clue but if Odunze or Nabers falls to 9 I think you have to take one of them. If not...trade back to a spot where you still get one of the 3 edge guys to be opposite of Sweat while getting more picks.

I really like Nabors.  You never know, he could surpass Harrison. Harrison has that radius and ability in close quarters but this kid is really electric.  Very sudden.   LT could also be interesting to have stud bookends for Williams.   Bears are in a very good spot.   Their future looks excellent.  You get some of these tough spots filled and then over time you stack the defense.  Next 2-3 drafts after this year with a heavy emphasis on D and this team can take off.

WR is loaded. This is understandable. Pretty cool he names CC, imo.

    McCulley, Sarratt

Cooper, Cross, Williams, and Price would seem to be the Top 6.

Honestly. I am VERY optimistic on the offense.  We might have a question at backup OL and QB but for the most part I think we could get back to an offense worthy of Kevin Wilson.

If I were CCC and Haines, DT would keep me up at night.  Those guys are hard to find so hopefully some guys pop in the spring portal.   I think our ends should be ok and our back 7 solid.

It’s going to happen and I have accepted it

You’re not wrong that it is a likely scenario.  And they could win it all.  I don’t think Houston or UConn are as good.

Having said that, while IU fans may be terrified, Duke has survived when UNC wins it all and vice-versa.   OSU football has gone into urgency mode with UM winning it all and on a roll with recruiting.

If Purdue wins it all, the golf clap can mentality will end. Pam Whitten, QB, the Simons and company will be startled by the urgency, if not rage, from the fan base.  It will rise to defcon 5 if Purdue wins it all.  It might be good for IU to wake up the admin at IU and all their politics and dysfunction.

Stupid I know but could we cut with the charades and throw some crazy money at Billy Donavon (maybe leave him an out for an nba job he wants) and put in a huge buyout for UK? Just want someone that is proven and respected. Seems like the NBA thing has run its course too.

There were eight games yesterday where the winning team scored over 85, five of those over 90 and two over 100. In two games, the losing team scored over 90. IU would get boatraced in this tournament

Yeah.  I was noticing that too.  Personally it’s not my favorite way to play.  I don’t like a ton of points in football either.  It just feels like it devalues each individual point and the defense.   I know most people disagree with me.  I’m fine with CBB with a score in the 70s and a 24-21 NFL game instead of 40-33.  But I just really enjoy defense in all sports.  I like the feeling that a bucket against a tough D means or a TD against a stiff defense.   I don’t want the other extreme either, the classic 55-52 basketball game or 13-10 NFL game.  Balance.

I told a friend today, yes i have a couple, that our players would look like slow plotting mules against a lot of these teams looking like racehorses. XJ is the only player that has the speed that we are watching. sad they have taken on the coaches mind set and actions. broken down old body.

Agree. I was thinking this a month or two ago that we were probably a step slow at most positions.   Leads to having a slower team overall in terms of team quickness.  Probably a function of emphasizing size.  I think team quickness is a big area of need for us.  I think it was a big reason why our defense was so bad.

I believe there was a rumor our staff was trying to get him to transfer last year, FWIW.

I’ve followed him a bit since there were rumors about our interest last year.  From what I’ve read, he is a bit of a head case.  He was solid in ‘23 and then fell off in ‘24.  Left the team at one point.  Can’t meet his commitments for NIL either.  I don’t know enough but you’d have to do big time due diligence before bringing him into your lockerroom.  He’s got a diva reputation that would make an NFL receiver blush.

He can't get on the court at UW and they're literally a small step ahead of us and no where near where we should be. Pass

Exactly.  Terrible defender.  We can do better.  Yes, we need a shooter with size but we can’t compromise on D.  As bad as the complaints about shooting have been, we were just as bad defensively.  We need good perimeter defenders.

I am of the belief that since he has escaped being released this year, the only way he isn't the coach is if he retires. And, now that he has lowered the bar of expectations, any form of improvement next season will be considered a positive trajectory in comparison.

What I fear is his inability or unwillingness to bring in high school recruits is going to haunt us.

Also, he says he was brought here to win a championship and it’s clear to anyone with a pulse that absolutely will not happen under his watch.

One scenario is he lands a good ‘25 recruiting class and gets us back in the tourney and then he walks away on his own, thinking he put us in a good position for a handoff to the next coach.  He will be going on 68 and just may not want to put the work in plus he can say that he did what he set out to do, which is get us on the right track.  That’s what could be his thought process.

He isn't going anywhere. It's a cultural fit at Baylor that wouldn't and couldn't exist most other places.

“We’ve been a Christ-centered program since we’ve been here,” Drew says. “Everybody comes in, spiritually, at different levels, but the great thing is that everybody’s open to growing. Each and every year, we want our players to grow academically and athletically, but also spiritually and in character.”

Drew says the Baylor Athletics vision of Preparing Champions for Life is why the program has been successful. The deeply embedded missions of Baylor University and Baylor Athletics carry to every corner of the Baylor men’s basketball program.

Living out the distinctly Christian commitment of Baylor’s campus community runs parallel to Drew’s personal faith journey.

“Spiritually, whenever you go on a mission trip where you combine that mission with coaching, it doesn’t get any better than that for me,” he says.

The resulting effect in the lives of the student-athletes is clear and evident. All-America guard Jared Butler teaches children’s Sunday School classes at his local church. Gameday chapel services are a staple of the program; team chaplain Mark Wible leads services for home games, and a rotation of coaching staff members lead services for road games. The 2014 season saw seven members of the team baptized.

I wonder how the Christ centered program ties in with threatening a recruit with deportation if he wouldn’t go to Baylor?

Kid can play, he pushes tempo, he's a 3 level scorer.

He's also a year older, spent a year at prep school, which I assume because he was still growing, body developing.

I also wouldn't see how Walker and Cupps could co-exist on the same bench.

Good point on Cupps.  In 716 minutes, he had 41 assists, 82 points, and 8 free throws.  I would redshirt him and not throw him to the wolves again.  If you bring in another pg and he gets hurt like XJ did, you can’t put yourself in a position to rely on Cupps for heavy minutes.  I like his potential but it would not be realistic for him to go from that many empty minutes to suddenly becoming a high level pg.  We saw with guys like Gunn what happens when you rely on the unproven. I would focus on developing him and weaning him into a role.

2 posts, 3 wings and 2 guards is where my head is at. as far as who? dont know. get 4-5 now, then the 2 or 3 best available in April/ May. Hopefully we are in the Tennessee/Ledlum position in April/May and try to recruit over everyone.

I think this is right.  I might emphasize one rim protector and one stretch four and then agree with you on wings and guards.

Frankie Fidler is really impressive.  Leffew with Fidler would be even better.   Need a high end point guard.  Ryan Nemhardt from Gonzaga would be amazing but he may not go portaling.  Maybe Gillespie from Belmont as a PG.

I also like Ryan Conwell from ISU if he declares.  Good all around player, including rebounding from the guard position.

Fidler, Leffew, Conwell and Gillespie would be a heck of an improvement.  But who knows if we can get traction with them.

I would not step off the gas. Get as many as we can get.  Look at what Cignetti did.  We somehow have 7 rb and a ton of receivers and it didn’t scare anyone away.

My least favorite effect of a losing season is the compulsion some feel to then shit all over absolutely everything connected to the program. As though there is nothing of worth to be found from the wreckage. Some of y'all need to be better at holding two thoughts in your head at the same time.

We're calling for Malik Reneau to transfer? Really? The kid has flaws in his game, sure. This is college, everyone does. He'll be the first to tell you he fouls too much, as anyone who saw his post game interview can attest. He's also just a sophomore, took a leap last year, and there's no reason think he won't continue improving. Already he was comfortably our second best player last season. If you're worrying about all the spots we have to fill in the portal, why would you want that guy to leave?

There are rumors Malik might transfer, and it's because he's getting serious offers from other schools. Programs that see the value he has and believe he can contribute to winning. But y'all want to cut him loose, I guess because we lost a lot of games in a season where everyone knew our backcourt was going to be a concern. You want players who stick at Indiana for multiple seasons? You want players who develop and improve? Then you want Malik Reneau.

Agree.  I remember when everyone was done with Crean I pointed out his ability to identify lower-rated talent and project it to this level.  Guys like Anunoby.  My point was the same as yours, that things are not so black and white.   But I got shot down by others who just didn’t want to hear it because people lost confidence in him.  You see that now with Woody and things like player development.  Some don’t want to give him any credit for TJD (even when TJD himself does) or Galloway as an initiator etc.

But, I would say that this is hardly anything particular to IU fans and it is part of human nature.  In the “real world” I have seen the same concept repeatedly.  Once an employer loses confidence in an employee, it’s like they can’t do anything right or need severe micromanagement.

While I agree that once someone is struggling, that doesn’t mean every single thing is terrible.  But human nature is that once people lose confidence in you, and especially after you alienate a huge chunk of the constituents, as happened here, it’s a huge upset to regain trust and confidence.  It’s not an IU thing, it’s human.

  15. DT Philip Blidi randomly went into the portal.  I wonder if a school tampered him with an offer he couldn’t refuse.  I thought we were thin at DT as it was.  I hope we get a couple of veteran DT’s in the spring portal.   D line might be our biggest impediment next year IMO

Right decision for all three and IU. The fact they leave and it really doesn't change a thing for IU means they brought little to the table. Trying to project some great leap in production for any of the three is wishful thinking.

The portal should be a plus for IU.  You can prune the roster as you see fit and fill as many needs as you feel like it.  Priller wouldn’t be able to absorb a scholly for four years today.  With the amount of money involved at IU, with a good coach and proper infrastructure this can be a major benefit.  It’s a pity we blew it last year but hopefully as a program we will reap rewards in the future.

Indiana State did just that and Virginia, with a NET 40 spots lower, got the bid.

I saw that.  I thought they got hosed.   Money talks and that’s not ok.  It’s sport.   If you don’t have fairness, you have nothing.   The NCAA has zero integrity.
