  1. Gunn can’t create shots for himself.  That’s one of the reasons he isn’t very good.   Leal was always the better option over Gunn.  Everyone can see that.  Moves like that killed them with the metrics.

The staff doesn’t understand analytics and the NET.  Remember Woody being befuddled by the questions, defending himself by talking about W’s and L’s (as if a narrow margin at home against West Point was fine since they won)?   I’m urging Scott to bring in a head of analytics and lead on this.  This isn’t the NBA where your record is exclusively tied to your seeding.

Gunn can be solid wherever he goes next year if he gets it together with his makeup.  He didn’t develop here but he also never had a good approach.

  2. Leal has a great knack for getting himself into great position.  Kudos to him.  Lifetime memory.

Also, great credit for the team being resilient after falling behind at the start of the second half.  That was a huge story.

  3. IU’s guards aren’t good enough and there’s not much we can do about it as that was determined in last year’s lackluster offseason.    It is exacerbated if TG is limited or out as he’s the one good guard.  It is a head scratcher but the one thing you might do is bring Leal’s minutes way up and Cupps’ way down.  Maybe even try Gunn again in lieu of Cupps.   XJ is a sixth year guy.  He gives you a chance to manipulate the rotation.

I like Cupps.  He shows flashes with shooting, defense, and getting into the lane.  Those flashes, even though somewhat isolated, indicate potential that he can someday be a good player in all those facets.  However, if you look at his high total number of minutes, his production in terms of assists, scoring, rebounding, etc may be a record in terms of being empty.  It’s not his fault, because he shouldn’t be playing those kinds of minutes at this stage.  But with XJ out there, this is an opportunity to get other guys on the floor to try to get better production and less empty guard minutes, with or without Trey.

Just finished re-watching the MSU game, and we had no reason to win it. We are so fundamentally flawed it's disgusting.

Lazy passes, no look passes that aren't close to anybody, sloppy passes, telegraphed passes. 16 turnovers, and the bulk of them were shitty passes.

NOBODY knows how to block out for a rebound except Leal. Mgbako and Reneau don't have a clue how to block out. MSU got 12 offensive rebounds, vast majority because no IU guy put a body on their man. Maybe we should hire Izzo to teach our guys how to block out...

And we don't call out screens at all. Leal got mugged the entire game because nobody called them out to him. Puts us at a real disadvantage when we don't hedge that screen.

And speaking of screens, we also don't know how to set one, nor does our ball handler know how to rub his guy off of it.

But hey...what do I know? I'm just a true fan....

They haven’t called out screens all year.  Total pet peeve and inexcusable.  You will consistently see screens called out at the HPER.  It’s just basic.

Pittsburgh was ready to offer 2nd for him before Payton went all dumb dumb. I honestly would have to look around the league and see what fits best. Right now though if we don't get a 3rd I hold onto him until draft night because there are always antsy GM's headed to draft night as we've seen before.

I’d say Denver but hard to say if Payton could adapt to him.

Hard to care about IU football until they do something worth caring about. I’ll be interested in seeing how the new coach gets them to perform but I’ve heard lots of promises and platitudes before from football and new basketball coaches alike at IU. I’m going to have to see some evidence first before I get worked up about IU football.

Totally fair and you can’t expect miracles in one year.  But I think he can get us to a bowl despite conference expansion if we don’t have catastrophic injuries. I’m expecting smart, sound football where we don’t beat ourselves.  Then we go from there.  It’d be nice if the boosters cranked it up on football instead of overpaying some of the basketball players for just being there and not producing.

We might have an outside chance for the tournament, if we win three in the BTT, and get to the championship game.  We’d finish 21-14 and that just might do it (wishful thinking)….at worst, we’re definitely in the NIT.

Would be amazing if it could happen.  Maybe the NET moves up dramatically by then.

I believe the committee used to look at the final ten performance but no longer does.  That would have helped under your scenario.

The numbers weren't manipulated negatively with IU though. We simply weren't good.

We didn't take care of our own business. Barely beat terrible teams and blown out by good ones.

Not every win/loss is created equal.

Yeah the numbers were very predictive and reflective of how good we are.  That’s the problem, they were right.

  9. Every win should help with recruiting even if the analytics killed us this year.   We need to win as much as possible to attract the next group.

As for the guards, other than Galloway, no one will be devastated if anybody else leaves.  With what they are paid, there needs to be production.  Gotta have ROI.

Well, I’ve got a not so great update on what I’ve heard here. Mullins wants to go to IU, but I’ll be very surprised if it happens with Woodson as the HC. I think all the negative noise around the program and Liam’s decommitment has made it clear that we’re a shit show at the moment. This is from a great source. Even worse, I believe this to be the same case for Sisley. If IU doesn’t fire Woodson, the 25 class will also be a disaster. Just a sad place that we’re in as a program.

Predictable.  The McNeely decommitment is epic and will live in infamy.  It’s not a shrug

I agree wholeheartedly.  Just saying I can understand why the deep pockets expect a bit of input when they've been called upon so frequently of late.

Sounds like the deep pockets plus Buckner have the unholy alliance.   It’s not their reluctance to pay the buyout so much as they are driving the bus to begin with.

Sadly the administration might be even more incompetent than Woody.  We'll find out over the next 10 days or so.

I can’t think of a school that self sabotages itself in any sport like IU does, in terms of a school that could be good but the keystone cops prevent it.

  13. What was our recruiting budget?  I recall that it was astronomical.   31 offers, 11 official visits and zero recruits with no good leads.  Whiffed on top 3 recruits of McNeely, Queen and Fland. Great message to the next batch for ‘25 and ‘26.

Great ROI.   At least we have the Simons to buy a bunch of unnamed mercenaries who are cash-focused to support the coach they are imposing on the AD and the consumers of the product.  Good thing we wouldn’t stoop to hiring Pearl.
