Article in the FW Journal Gazette, which no longer allows me to link. Written by Dylan Sinn who covers most of the major college news for the paper. He states that college football is "closer than ever" to having a 50-70 team super conference that will rake in millions more than we now are getting from the tv deals. It is going to be football driven, and was probably the leading factor in IU biting the bullet and paying the larger payout to CTA instead of waiting for it to reduce. Essentially, that it is imperative that IU make its way into that 50-70 group because the revenue disparity between the haves and the have nots is going to be so great, that those in the latter category will see not only their football programs, but all their athletic teams fall way behind. This is the reason for the sense of urgency, and this is the selling point being used to sway boosters that have the old school belief that the majority of the department's funds should be sent to the basketball program. To me, this cries out "go big, or go home" more than any other thing I've read about the coaching search, and really hammers home the idea that this needs to be a home run hire.

IMO, concerns over ARE have nothing to do with his character, coaching ability or X and o knowledge. I don’t know that he has any recruiting ties. That would take some time for him to develop and in the meantime we could fall further behind. Not like he’s been a head coach elsewhere and could bring a bunch of guys with him. Guys that I could see as realistic options, in no particular order… Toledo head coach Paul Chryst Pat Fitzgerald Tom Herman These guys have all recruited the Midwest in some way, shape or form and all have won more as head coaches than we have ever seen. I agree with whoever mentioned ARE as the fallback if we strike out with more established candidates.

Here is a summary of our holiday travel experience yesterday. I will never fly around Thanksgiving again, at least while I am working and I have time constraints. So while gathering with family was my choice, flying cross country is not! -Rained the whole drive to Detroit - Our 12:15 flight did not leave Detroit until 4:00. We sat on the tarmac for over an hour in a plane with no air conditioning before they finally announced the pilots who were supposed to fly us could not. We had to wait for another crew to arrive and then wait for them to do all their pre-flight checks. We reboarded around 3:15 and sat until they were ready to leave-45 minutes. - Rained the entire drive from Seattle to Bellingham -Road to get to the Air BnB was closed so had to take a detour-in the dark and in the rain. - We should have been here around 5:00. Were supposed to have dinner with the kids. Got in around 9:15. Only positive is that Delta sent us a $200 voucher each for our next flight because of the problems
