  1. Is that a Lane Bryant tag on his orange jumpsuit?
  2. Jerome Hunter entered the portal this morning...
  3. I think he got upset when a few people questioned whether he was an insider at all... There was some back and forth on that...
  4. You've got that right... I grew up in Martinsville. We had 3 restaurants...Frisch's Big Boy, Charlie's (burger joint), and Gene Lewis's (think 3rd rate romance, low rent rendezvous)... Hell, I didn't have shrimp til I was 12. We were in Fort Lauderdale at a hotel restaurant my Mom's friend ran. She said to order whatever we wanted. I ordered the fried shrimp, and the old man looks at me and says, "I don't care if you don't like them, you're still eating them." I did...so well that when the waitress came to clear off the plates, she said, " what did you do with the tails?" I'd eaten them, of course...
  5. I saw that...the guy told him to imagine the ball was Rob Manfred's face and the next pitch, Castellanos nailed a homer... Manfred is the worst commissioner in my lifetime...and that's saying something when I lived through the Bowie Kuhn years...
  6. đź’Ż I think everyone on this forum knows I wanted to keep Archie for another year. I couldn't have been more wrong. But I think very few people even knew that Coach Woodson was as good of a technical coach as he is, nor did people see Scott Dolson demonstrate the leadership he has by making the basketball program a team effort and not laying it all off on one man. So far, Coach Woodson is an "Easter Egg" that has earned an off season A+ in my book. This group Dolson has assembled is solid and built for the long haul...not a one trick pony... I know we haven't played a game under Woody yet, but I can't wait until November...if this comes together like I think it can, we're in great shape to reclaim our blue-blood status...
  7. Love watching the Mecum auctions and Kraman. The guy knows cars and is a straight shooter. He'll tell you if a modification fits or a car is worth the price...
  8. Link The highlights... "Johnson also was intrigued by All-American big man Trayce Jackson-Davis returning for his junior season. “It influenced (my decision) a lot,” Johnson said. “Trayce is a very good big that honestly I haven’t played with yet, his talent level. So, I mean, it will be fun to watch.” “I’m ready to come in and work,” Johnson said. “Talking to Coach Woodson, it was a real conversation. My dad asked real questions, and we got the real answers from him." Johnson said he would like to serve as a mentor to Lander. “I really do want to help Khristian become one of the best point guards as well, just having the same leadership role and just coming in, being ready,” Johnson said." This kid sounds like a leader to me...and we've desperately needed that...
  9. I had a friend that had a 71 Cuda, but his had the 383 engine in it. It'd still get up and go though...
  10. AND it would be IU's 25th NCAA Championship overall... As opposed to Purdue's 5...IF you count the 1932 Helms championship AND the 2018 Cheerleading Championship...<snicker>
  11. At the SHRP for the Preakness. I have Ram for 10 bucks. Haven't had a winner all day...but the Michelob Ultra is cold!
  12. Some people think China isn't even a threat, either economically or militarily...
  13. Understand... I wonder how long it'll be before we see Jerome's name in the portal...seems to me the earlier the better...rosters are filling up fast...
  14. It's been 40 years since I've had a girlfriend, and this is the only form of social media I participate in...I'm not aware of the "rules" anymore for either... Just seems like everything is handled so publicly these days...
  15. So not even so much as a "good luck"?
  16. My wife is a nut...she treats these guys like kids..."The Brat" modeling a hat...
  17. I played against him all through junior high and high school (we were in the same class)...I could tell by 8th grade he was a special player. His house backed right up to the basketball courts at the Martinsville Park, so he always had a place to play, as it was lighted. I lived across town, but I made it up there as much as I could...always a lot of good competition... Those years were some golden years for Martinsville sports...in 75 and 76 we put 1 basketball player (Sichting at Purdue) and 2 football players (Dan Rhoden 75, and Mark Fishel 76 at IU) in the Big 10. Martinsville also had 4 coaches who are in the Indiana HOF in their respective sports during that time...Sam Alford (basketball), Bill Tutterow (baseball), Bill Siderwicz (football) and John Koontz (wrestling).
  18. Interesting that none of the players have acknowledged Jerome's departure on social media yet...Was Jerome not popular with his teammates?
  19. I played against Jerry many times at the Martinsville Park...He was a very nice guy...Never played really hard against mediocre talent like me...If you were on his team, you'd better be ready because he'd bounce one off your noggin if you didn't keep your eyes open...
  20. Eh, I disagree with the initial premise...Had people kept their hands off the game (at all levels), it would be more entertaining and have more fans...But, you are right in saying this isn't the thread...We do talk about it a lot in the 2021 Baseball thread over in the baseball forum though...
  21. Analytics in basketball, especially the the ones Woody spoke about in the interview, make more sense to me than most baseball analytics do...They've basically made baseball unwatchable....
  22. Good article on Coach Woodson's basketball philosophies... The highlights... “Analytics is huge,” Woodson said on a recent call with reporters. “I used to use it for combinations of who played well together on my ball club, what combinations worked. A lot of time you base it on the minutes that a particular combination plays together or how well guys that come off the bench click together.” “I’m a big proponent of guys that compete on the defensive end,” Woodson said. “If you don’t, you won’t play… I know defense wins basketball games. I know defense will put you in position to win every game. It ain’t going to be just about our offense.” “When I look at young players, if you’re not willing to compete and play hard, your days in the NBA will be numbered because the next guy is more hungry,” Woodson said. “That’s going to be my biggest challenge going forward with this team because I think they got to play harder… It’s my job to make it happen.”
