  1. As painful as 1969 was, I still love the jingle...
  2. A little too young to remember the Zephyrs, but I do know they're the Washington Wizards now (after a stop in Baltimore as the Bullets and a PC name change). But I spent many days listening to the great Jack Brickhouse, Vince Lloyd, and "The Good Kid" Lou Boudreaux doing Cub games. Probably a big reason I'm a Cub fan...
  3. Smokers 2.4 times more likely to get serious infection from COVID-19 People who smoke are 2.4 times more likely to have severe symptoms from COVID-19 compared to those who do not smoke, according to a recent study published by the New England Journal of Medicine.
  4. Been to dog shows and car shows there many times...big facility...hope it helps...
  5. That's why I stressed "balance." It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't for governments from local, state, and federal... No matter what they do, some people will lose, some will win, and depending upon your own personal circumstance is how you'll view it...
  6. I'm gonna post this one censored, but if the mods don't seem it appropriate, they can take it down with no issue from me...I thought it was funny...
  7. Oh, I know that...but she's not buying it...
  8. My wife would rather have me drink a gallon of that stuff with no chaser than have it sprayed anywhere near where those damned horses graze...
  9. Understand...maybe they could mark off 6 foot sections of the bank... But a total ban is nuts...
  10. Gotta laugh...one of my colleagues sent me this...
  11. Addiction relapses are up... And I think that's just the tip of the mental health iceberg we're facing... I'm not unsympathetic to the plight of individuals who contract COVID-19 at all, but we'd better balance this out or it'll be worse than having the pandemic run its course unabated...
  12. The trimming along the fencing is what took a lot of time. I bought a nice Stihl (my preferred brand for all gas powered implements...have a chain saw and blower too...all are 5 years old and pretty much start on the first pull) weed eater, but still took me a lot of time. Weeds down here are tough too. I eventually bought a steel Gator head for the trimmer to get through them, but you can't use it around anything you don't want scarred up. I still do a little gardening, like taking care of a couple of blue java banana trees and a small flower garden, but that's about it.
  13. Fishing banned in Washington state Going a little too far here?
  14. Our first 5 years here, I did all 3 acres myself. All cleared, lots of 3 board fencing. Bought a JD D140 (nice lawn tractor, but should have bought a zero turn). Every Saturday from about 8 am to 5 pm if I did it "right" (mow, trim, edge, blower). I finally hired it out 2 years ago. Going rate is $80 an acre here. Main yard (about 1 acre) I have them do every week. Whole shootin match every 2 weeks. I enjoy my Saturdays much more...
  15. I had never heard of him (I like country music, just not my favorite) til I heard his name in a Chris Young song "Raised on Country." "I was raised on Merle, raised on Willie Got my Honky Tonk attitude from Joe Diffie Daddy did too, it's family tradition If someone cranks it up, you can't help but listen My upbringing sounds like George Strait singing And I gotta give props to the radio 'Cause if you know me, I was raised on country" Memorialized forever now...
  16. Saw that...and John Prine is in critical condition...
  17. Warm weather will slow it... Abundance of tests will help us pinpoint pockets... People who have had the virus from mild to severe will develop immunity... Vaccines and treatments will be readily available sooner than we think... I'm not saying we're over the hump yet, but we're getting there...
  18. To be honest, I do think stopping all cars that have NY license plates and sending the National Guard door to door is a little extreme...
  19. I think everyone is taking it seriously, but between the disinformation (which is despicable by the way), the misinformation, and the idiotic "panic" that people are exhibiting through hoarding and the like, it's made this whole thing into a circus... Now is not the time to panic...it's time to act. Do what you can do to keep your family and yourself safe (and I'm confident you're already doing that). Try to be a good neighbor and friend. I understand in some of the things I've personally done (give blood) there's a risk, but life is filled with risks. I'll take a calculated risk for what I think is the greater good. I pray for your little boy and your family every day. I'm fortunate in the fact that beyond limiting our going out, this hasn't and probably won't affect my wife and me much, but I'm not blind to the fact that this is a total catastrophe for a lot of folks... And I pray for them, too...
  20. I did figure out pretty early that "Exotic Joe's" enterprise didn't have much of a dental plan...
  21. I don't watch much TV beyond sports and news, and 50% of my enjoyment of TV has been pared, so started looking for new things to watch... My wife heard on Today, or GMA, or one of those goofy shows she watches about a Netflix show called "Tiger King" which is about people who own big cats or run roadside zoos featuring them, so we gave it a go... I'll say this, if they ever fire up freak shows at the circus again, there must be an audience for them...These people were beyond belief... So, still looking...
  22. Doing some great looking swordfish steaks my wife got at HEB today...
  23. And that's it, isnt it? Not to sound macabre or insensitive, but we (our government) has to make decisions that either give the appearance of "letting the chips fall where they may" by keeping society running the way it always does, and sacrificing lives in the process, OR taking away freedoms while at the same time grossly affecting the financial well being and quality of life for a large number of people. I guess where most people stand is where they have the most skin in the game. I look @Billingsley99 and I would be petrified if I was in his shoes, having a son with a compromised immune system. He's also looking at a financial impact. But speaking as a father myself, the financial part would be insignificant if I were in his shoes, and I'm sure it is to him and his family...I'd want society locked up tighter than the nuts on a new bridge. On the other hand, there are people who are going to come out if this absolutely ruined financially...I feel for them as well...it really sucks to see a lifetime of work get crushed in this vise. So, I'm ok with shelling out the trillions it's going to take to strike that balance. To me, it's not political at all. Or it shouldn't be. We're Americans. We step up to the plate with courage and conviction. Let's just not worry about "blame" right now...
  24. You have to figure that those airports are losing money right now, too... A lot of this 2 trillion in spending is a crutch to get past this pandemic and keep the economy rolling for both the individuals and businesses... Small GA airports are a business, and an important one at that... While I do agree hiding "pork" in important legislation is BS, we simply don't have enough informed voters in this country to hold senators and congressmens feet to the fire to change that way of doing business.
