Small world. I used tolive in Sugar Grove and my neighbor raved about that place. I never made it there. :(

Ah, I lived in Montgomery from 2004 to 2012, about a mile west of the Caterpillar plant...use to drive through Sugar Grove all the time when I took my daughter to the horse barn she was riding at at the time...or when I was going up to Ream's Meat Market in Elburn. Best brats on the planet.

Italian Beef in Chicago, Pork Tenderloin Sammich in Indiana, Maid-Rite in Iowa, burnt ends in KC, Hot Brown in Kentucky, Skyline #-way in Ohio.....

Yep, solid list, and I can vouch for all of the above.  Interestingly, that list also has two of my food bucket list items: pastrami from Katz's in NYC and an actual Maine lobster roll.

I can vouch for a couple more...

The Juicy Lucy at Matt's (or 5/8 Club) in Minneapolis is great. Word of caution...never bite into it in the first few minutes of them putting in down in front of you, unless you like molten cheese scalding your mouth and chin...

And Franklin's BBQ in Austin is as advertised...I waited 2 hours in line, but it was the best (turkey and brisket) I've ever had

Oh, and they do have a Katz's deli down here in The Woodlands, Texas. Had breakfast there Monday. Lox and onions in scrambled eggs. My wife got the spinach frittata that had the pastrami on it, but she picked it off and offered it to me...

    Silly girl...

I know Archie can't turn Al Durham and Devonte Green into Ty Jerome and Kyle Guy, nobody can, but I thought the team adopting Archie's mentality and culture would be a more immediate thing.

A large part of your culture is dictated by the leaders on your team. I think Archie has tried to get Al and Devonte to embrace their leadership roles, but I haven't seen it.

I have no idea what goes on behind the scenes (practice/coach's office/game huddles) but it's readily apparent on the court.

We've had hole-in the-wall fried chicken, now the best hole-in-the-wall burger Joint in each state.

They missed out on Illinois...The Bristol Tap in Bristol, Illinois has one of the best burgers I've ever had. Nothing fancy, just good meat cooked right and seasoned correctly...

And it doesn't get any holier-in-the-wall than that place...seats about 50 people, no kids allowed, cash only, popcorn machine while you wait for your order, and the only 2 draft beer choices are Busch and Busch Light...

Used to be Hamm's and Hamm's Light, but they upgraded 😁

A Pat's vs Geno's debate makes the Skyline vs Gold Star arguments I've witnessed seem downright civil....and I've seen blood spilled over that.

    #philly #dodgethebatteries

Yes it can be something...like I said, I go to the one with the shortest line, get my "whiz wit" and enjoy...

About a year ago a first timer was in front of me at Pat's...gets up to the window still looking at the menu and tells the guy taking the orders, "I'm still deciding." And pointing to the corner the guy says, "well go decide over there. The guy behind you looks hungry."

For the record, although I love Steak and Shake chili by itself, I'm a Skyline 4 way (no beans) guy if we're going Cincinnati style...

Now I will take exception to their citing Philip's Steaks as the Kingpin of cheese steaks in Philly.

Travel there often, and use to be every time a local told me about "the best cheese steak in Philly" I'd try it.

After a while, I determined the the 2 biggest names in Philly cheese steak, Pat's King of Steak and Geno's, which actually sit on opposite corners of the X shaped intersection at 9th and Passyunk are my favorites. They became famous for a reason. Plus, if you're lucky enough to be around when someone comes to either one of their windows and don't know what they want, it can be quite entertaining. I always go to whichever one has the shortest line...

I had people tell me the same thing about BBQ in Kansas City when I said I wanted to go to Arthur Bryant's. Like I said, the place got famous for a reason...and didn't disappoint me at all..

Well, they did have my all time favorite...The Italian sub from White House Subs in Atlantic City, NJ. I've introduced many people to this place...not a very big place, the line is always out the door, and it's not in a great neighborhood, but everyone I've ever taken there wants to go back...if you like it spicy, get the "wet hots" on it...

We've got a chain here in Colorado. Called Del Taco. Which I love.  However, my son will not step foot in it.  Same issues as you.

Del Taco merged with a Mexican fast food place called Naugles that I frequented in Belleville, Illinois in the early 80s. Polish off a night of socializing with a Macho Red Burrito...

    Good memories...

  9. Yes I do...first Taco Bell I ever went to was the one in Indy on 38th St between Keystone and Sherman. Got bean burritos. Still my favorites with extra onion and medium taco sauce...

Of course, even the dogs won't come around me for a day or so afterwards...

There's a market for bootleg Frisch's tartar sauce? Hmmm.....

Maybe. They use to sell it at Meijers in Chicagoland. First time I put it on a burger, my wife looked at me like I'd peed on our wedding album.

Now you are talking. With a Hot Fudge Cake to go with it.

Yeah buddy...my face gets a sugar tingle just thinking about it. Love Frisch's burgers too.

Just to throw this back on track, but does anybody else like Steak n Shake chili? I love that stuff. Steak n Shakes are few and far between down here, but Walmart sells their chili.

  12. They actually sell Skyline down here in Texas in the frozen food section.

I love Cincinnati style 5 way chili, so just upon the merits of looking out for us displaced midwesterners, I'd give Skyline my vote.

But what I wouldn't do for some Frisch's tarter sauce...

Do I break a golden or is adding elbow macaroni to chili ok? Wife got me hooked with that addition.

I think that's called Chili-Mac (at least that's what my Mom called it), a close cousin...Like a zebra to a horse...

The heat in my car quit working. What good timing. At least my truck still works but my wife has to chauffeur me back and forth to work because she needs it too.

    It's too cold.

I used a portable car heater like this one in a piece of crap Ford Taurus I had through a Chicago winter back in 2005. Kept the car in the garage and would fire up the portable 10 minutes before I took off for work.
