  1. Anyone ever been in the middle of a weather event? I've been through a tropical storm (Alberto 1994) and 2 hurricanes (Erin and Opal 1995). Mother nature is nothing to mess with.
  2. I'll throw in one other thing...having lived in Greenland for a year (and unless there are enough natural resources to power the planet for a million years, they can keep that icecube) once it goes past -20 (coldest I saw was -45) there's not a helluva lot of difference on the miserability scale.
  3. I can't remember the exact year (90? 91?) when my family and I traveled back on our yearly Christmas time trek to Terre Haute from the Florida panhandle. Was 32 when we left Fort Walton Beach, -8 in Birmingham and a wake you up -22 in Vincennes. When we upacked at Mom's house, I forgot to bring in a 6 pack of soda which exploded. Luckily, it was so cold it immediately froze and I picked the whole mess up with 1 hand. Didn't even leave a stain.
  4. Not really criminals, just being Texans I would imagine the first word the cops heard from them is, "Whut?" At first I was puzzled that they were going to a museum...til I read it was the Harley Davidson museum...Ahhhhhh
  5. Had to put this guy in the HSN Stupid Criminals HOF Karma can be funny...
  6. New Texas Justice! "Are ya hungry?"
  7. I live in a small town in southeast Texas, where a sizable portion of thier revenue is money collected for traffic violations. I've been in the jury pool twice. First time, only 3 people, including myself, showed up, so I felt obligated. Turns out it's better than anything on TV (it's night court). I've had jury cohorts dressed in moo-moos, house coats, and overalls. About all of them are older than me, and half carry oxygen tanks, but still hustle out to butt one off during jury breaks. The lawyers are not creme de la creme, but are entertaining none the less. I might suffer from a tinge of civic duty, but the entertainment value keeps me coming back.
  8. Ah, good old Reggie Harding. I remember his short stint with the Pacers. Guy was quite a physical specimen. I recall that he was shot dead somewhere in a street altercation when he was still a relatively young man.
  9. Ya cain't bring a beer to jury duty in Texas!?!?
  10. My wife took the last two dogs to their final vet visit. It was time for both of them as you could see they were suffering. On the way, she stopped at McDonalds and got both of them a large order of Chicken McNuggets. She said they both gobbled them up and looked happy. She's a sweet woman.
  11. I forgot about those...They are great. When I initially read the calorie count, I promised myself, "ok, this is a once in a lifetime treat, so go for it! " And I've been true to my word...if I was a dozen cats...
  12. A friend of my wife has buried 5 horses on her 5 acre property. She just had one pass away last week...Cost her $400 for a guy to come in and dig the hole with a backhoe. But, she says she wants them near her always...
  13. Dogs and cats are a reasonable price for cremation and the box to put the ashes in...less than $100 if I remember right... Horses are a whole different story...
  14. Yeah, I have 3 wooden boxes sitting on our mantle. The ashes of 2 dogs and a horse (well, SOME of the ashes of a horse...the whole thing would have required a box 3 feet tall and weighed 70 lbs). Shows what a softie I am for them...
  15. I hope so...we play both Purdue and Ohio State at home, so I would hope it would be on one of those two dates...
  16. The obvious choice for me would be Portillos. A Chicago institution. Reasonable prices and good burgers, Chicago dogs, Italian beef, and if you can find one with a Barnelli's pasta attached, some pretty awesome pasta dishes (the Peasant Pasta and the Chicken Diavolo are both excellent). Very comfortable place to take kids too. And their chocolate cake is killer...
  17. There's a lot of great pizza in the Chicagoland area. We use to go the the HR Inn in Lemont, and on Friday or Saturday it was an hour wait. I'm just happy to get their frozen pizza ( at HEB along with Nick and Vito's too) down here in Texas. Damn good for frozen.
  18. Had to see what they had for Illinois. I figured it'd be Nick and Vito's. Good, but my favorite is Home Run Inn. When talking deep dish, they mention Geno's and Pequod's, but I think Lou Malnati's is better than both of those.
  19. My DVR is 67% full of things I've been meaning to watch
  20. Like others, Baseball and The Civil War. Interested in some of the others mentioned, but between, work, family, and farmette, it's difficult to find the time...
  21. The cat in the my pic above (with her gelding boyfriend) is The Queen of the Mousers in our barn. The other barn cat (male) is a sissy. Won't go near a mouse.
  22. Well, current count... 3 dogs 2 cats 3 horses 1 bird Just a sampling...Don't want to crash the server
  23. I don't have any to add, but I will say of all the far-fetched futuristic stuff I've ever seen on TV, the Star Trek Teleporter is the one I'd like to see actually developed. Says it all about what I think about air travel.
  24. People who leave their shopping carts in or in between parking spaces when a buggy corral is only 10 steps away.
