  1. Or, if you happen to have one of those low-calorie conditions, Portillos chocolate cake shake (or during summer, the lemon cake shake). A big hunk of their cake thrown in a blender with ice cream. Yes, it's as obscene as it sounds but good God is it good. It's a DQ Blizzard in a fat suit. One of those things that you know how ridiculously bad it is for you, but is so good you don't care.
  2. Mine only cost me a nights sleep and 2 Advil. She passed about 11:30. I built her a casket and had her buried by sunrise. Just short of 4 feet under, so she can remain at peace, even if we sell the house someday. My wife had the same thoughts about wanting to have her nearby. My answer was "This was her home. This is where she'd want to be." And with no hesitation, she agreed.
  3. Ours is buried right outside our kids' bedroom window. Able to keep guard, just like she would have wanted.
  4. I'm not ashamed to admit it: I cried like a baby when our other dog died (sister of the one in my previous post). I'll never be one to say "it's just a dog/cat/pet". They have more of an impact on our lives than we realize.
  5. Second that. On par with any of Ken Burns' documentaries.
  6. Have Seen Baseball, Prohibition and Brooklyn Bridge. Civil War is on my to-watch list.
  7. They're under contract to their employer, which is presumably based in the city that the team is based in. They wouldn't be liable for out of state taxes. I'm not sure if NBA players are considered W2 or 1099 employees, but if normal withholdings apply, they would either be withheld for the state that their employer exists in or their primary state of residence, provided that their state of residence has a reciprocal agreement with the state they are employed in. If withholdings don't apply, then they would be taxed purely on their state of residence. Perfect, real life example: I live in Northern Kentucky, and work in Ohio. I spend at least two weeks (one pay period) per year working in Texas, and probably a 2 weeks worth in various other states (CT, PA, among others). I don't owe taxes based on 4% (roughly one pay period) of my income to Texas or any other state. I also don't have any Ohio withholdings, due to a reciprocal agreement between the two states. The only state income taxes I pay are to Kentucky, my primary state of residence. The one point that may be correct is on the municipality/city taxes. 100% of my state income taxes go to Kentucky, but I do have withholdings for the city of Cincinnati. Local taxes are often based on the physical location of the job. However, I'm not liable for those taxes on days that I'm out of the office. So if I'm out of the office for 30 days throughout the year, I can get 10% of those taxes back. The 3.x% to the city may only apply for days where they have home games or practices within the city.
  8. With Philly, resigning Harris tips the scales a little towards the positive though. Same theory but twice the impact if Toronto resigns Leonard.
  9. They've also got the equivalent of a talented chef for a head coach: Get him some quality ingredients, doesn't necessarily matter what, and he'll make something good out of them.
  10. I think the answer is that he left some money on the table, but it's not as if he gave Miami a discount either. $35.5M/year in Miami vs $38M/year in Philly. That's about 6.5% less per year. However, Florida has 0 state income tax. The state of Pennsylvania has a flat 3% tax on all income, and the city of Philadelphia is an additional 3.8%. So for those 4 years, he's even or slightly ahead. The 5th year is what he left. But, this isn't his first big payday. At the end of this 4 year contract, he'll have made well over $200M. Maybe he values the flexibility for the last year or two in his career, if he wants to go after a ring should he not win one in Miami. Maybe it's worth $30M to him to spend 2/3rds of the year in Miami vs Philly; he can afford to pay for a choice like that. Maybe he's still playing at a level to warrant more than just the minimum. If he's a year younger, maybe he gets a team to go for a few years longer instead of just the vet minimum.
  11. And now Derrick Favors. At worst, they're interesting.
  12. Just my opinion, but ESPN's opinion on anything hasn't been worth a f#$& for a decade. They're the equivalent of clickbait across multiple methods of distribution. They don't project what would be best for the NBA. They project what would be best for ESPN covering the NBA. ESPN isn't going to mention those teams because there are fewer people in those areas that they can sell advertising to. Plus, as you mentioned, negotiating hasn't started yet. So don't take their word as fact when it's an opinion, and a biased opinion at that. It's all Shakespearean: It is a tale, told by an idiot. Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
  13. Fran had a quad espresso with breakfast and got a little jumpy
  14. Am I crazy, or does the idea of a CP3/Harden/Butler lineup sound like a disaster waiting to happen? I know they're shooting for a "Big 3" approach like KG/Pierce/Allen or LBJ/Wade/Bosh, but are the 3 of them the right 3? The other 6 that I mentioned are mostly (if not definitely) team focused. Say what you want about LeBron's ego, he can and will get everyone on the court involved. CP3 could work in a model like that. Harden may or may not have that mentality, but he's not effective without a huge amount of touches. And Butler has had some attitude problems in the past, and D'Antoni isn't known as a disciplinarian. Who knows. Maybe CP3 and Butler develop a 2 man game with Harden as a decoy. Maybe a relaxed approach gets Butler to buy in completely. But I really wonder if there's enough touches and ego room for all 3.
  15. There's a better chance of you recommending Votto to hit leadoff.
  16. Philly has more culture than Boston? Maybe if battery chucking is considered culture.
  17. Raise your hand if you knew the name "Isaac Bonga" before reading this thread.
  18. You've obviously never met my wife. Can't say her hair ever cost 10M, but seems that way.
  19. Nothing but gut feel, but Boston suddenly with a ton of cap room and still loaded with future draft picks makes me think they're going to be the recipient of a sign and trade.
  20. My wife threatens to take video of me doing this someday, but my dog will bark at me when she wants something. If she's just begging/whining, I answer her back. We've actually held continuous 5 minute long exchanges. *bark bark* What? *BARK* The hell do you want? *bark bark howllbark* No, you just ate an hour ago. *barkbark* Keep yapping, you're not getting more food. And on it goes....sometimes you make your own entertainment.
  21. The Lakers get AD and LaVar Ball is now someone else's problem? Hell, that's like winning twice.
  22. I had a suspicion that was the case, but didn't have time to look up his Memphis and UMass players. Camby was one of those players that kept hanging around the league and may have picked up a ring on the end of someone's bench.
  23. Fact: A John Calipari UK player has never won an NBA championship. As of yesterday, a Tom Crean IU player has.
