I do wonder what would have happened this offseason had he not returned. A 6th year senior obviously scared off any hope of a guard coming here wanting playing time that could help us right now. He has been absolutely terrible this year.

Him being an all big ten pg coming into this season was a joke.

Would this be a bad time to point out Knecht scored 39 tonight for the Vols?

Nah. This team won convincingly at Nebraska and beat Tennessee and Princeton in Fort Myers. They had this game at six at the half, could have been closer without some late tough Iowa shots.  They didn't play their best in the first, but clearly ran out of gas in the second, having flown in earlier that day.

This team's only losses have been on the road, against two of the top five teams in the sport. Neither loss has been particularly close, and that stings, but the outcome was not unexpected, even for a good team like Indiana.

I'm totally with @Hoosier4Life53, we'll take them down in Assembly Hall.

The outcome was completely unexpected for me.  We lost to them last year in Iowa on a buzzer beater 3 from Clark.  That wouldn’t have been unexpected, but the absolute beat down was.  Like Bluegrass, I love this team, and enjoy them more than the men most nights, but I’m beginning to think the ceiling is a littler lower than I had originally expected.

  3. See if any of this sounds familiar.  IU goes an the road against a good team and gets curb stomped on National TV, because:

    • They can’t shoot
    • They turn the ball over
    • They can’t hit free throws
    • They can’t defend the three
    • They can’t match the energy level of the opponent.
    • Some “unknown” player has a career night

    WTH, is this crap contagious?

Want to critique my own opinion on the 4th down play in regards to Gardner...

If he throws that specific ball on 1st and 10--- its a pathetic throw. Awful.. most it would have gained is 3 yards.

On 4th and 1.. I can't put that on Gardner. I think Goodson has to slow his body down quicker/recognize WHEN he's open. Catch the ball, fall down for 2-3 yards and we march on.

I don’t necessarily hate the play call at face value.  Clearly, if executed properly it’s a 1st down and more.  However, it was the most important play of the season, and we had an inaccurate passer throwing to an inexperienced receiver.  We didn’t have the best personnel to make that play successful.  Simply put we did not put the best people into position to be successful.  If IU is down 3 with 10 seconds to play against Rutgers this week and Woodson draws up a last play for Jordan Rayford to take a 3, I will be upset with the play call.  That last play did not put the team in the best position to be successful.  I get we didn’t have a choice with Minshew, but why Gooden in that moment?  He had 6 receptions all year!  Why not Moss or Taylor, or even Downs?  Why isn’t Taylor in the game even as a decoy?

That doesn't really make sense to me. But sure.

    That play is on Goodson.

Not sure what doesn’t make sense.  I’m sure Shane is second guessing this morning.  Hell, he basically said as much last night.  And Minshew has been inaccurate his whole career, he also said last night that he should’ve thrown a better ball there.  He spun Goodson around as opposed to hitting him in stride, do you not see it that way?  Troy Aikman said as much as well.

Complaining about the play call there is weak.

When you need 1 yard and you have two backs averaging 6 yards per carry, one with 188 yards rushing, but you choose to throw to a guy with 6 receptions all year, I think it’s fair to question the play.  It reminds me of Marshawn Lynch in the Super Bowl.

Scott, can we now agree that Minshew does not throw an accurate ball?

  7. I thought that was one of the strangest officiated games I’ve ever seen.  To say they let them play would be a serious understatement.  I thought the game was way too physical, and I believe games like this are why the B1G struggles in the tournament.

  8. Someone in the game thread said that a coach can preach until he is blue in the face, but it’s up to the players to execute.  I agree, except that it is then the coaches job to put said player/s on the bench until they conform.  Coach Knight was a big believer in the bench as a motivator, how did CMW not learn that?
