Two quick observations from the game:
1. When Sparks first came into the game UM was shooting a free throw. When the ball went up, he immediately hip checked his man into last Wednesday. I literally laughed out loud.
2. Assembly Hall is a real B!tc# if you scorn her. She was so deep in between Geronimo’s ears, I suspect he will have nightmares for weeks. Haven’t seen anything like that since Sean May came back to town.

After the last 48 hours, I may take up smoking…
On a semi related note, would a celebratory cigar work, or does it have to be a cigarette?

I know as fans it is not realistic but why don't we be patient and see who is hired. Then why don't we let that coach come in and get settled before making a judgement on the hire.
Are you new here??

I’d for sure take Malik Mack.
But he’s too small for the B1G.
He won’t be able to get his shot off.
and my personal favorite, 3 star guards grow on trees in Indiana.
That kid has stones. I’ll be rooting for him going forward. Someone will offer him big NIL $$$$ next year.

Can you imagine this board if CMW had offered a 6’ 1” 3 star guard out of DC??

Ignore the off field stuff for this point. I loved the attitude Kevin Wilson came in here with. Not afraid of anything and was aggressive. Willing to fight for recruits. Played to win, not scared. Not encumbered by IU’s past and being resigned to failure. He knew offense too. I want that edge in the next guy. “There’s no reason why we can’t win” type of attitude.
Boy, if Mile was still here he’d be all over this…

IMO, concerns over ARE have nothing to do with his character, coaching ability or X and o knowledge. I don’t know that he has any recruiting ties. That would take some time for him to develop and in the meantime we could fall further behind. Not like he’s been a head coach elsewhere and could bring a bunch of guys with him.
Guys that I could see as realistic options, in no particular order…
Toledo head coach
Paul Chryst
Pat Fitzgerald
Tom Herman
These guys have all recruited the Midwest in some way, shape or form and all have won more as head coaches than we have ever seen.
I agree with whoever mentioned ARE as the fallback if we strike out with more established candidates.
But he’s got a Super Bowl ring….
in all seriousness, he has a charisma about him that should lend itself very well to recruiting. He’s also spent his entire adult life in football, so I’m sure he does know some guys to bring with him. I’m not against him being a plan B, but knowing he more than likely wouldn’t take modest success and try to flip it for better opportunity is a big selling point.

They should start tonight when they get back to Bloomington.
Actually I would prefer their stuff already be boxed up and on the sidewalk by the time they get to Bloomington.

Every IU coach should spend tomorrow packing up their offices.

Even when Purdue is bad, we find a way to be worse.

How kids on scholarship can be so bad at tackling, the most fundamental aspect of defense, is baffling to me.

That would be really funny if it didn’t so closely represent the history of IU football.

Bad tackling and turnovers….good thing those don’t usually cost you games…..

Someone educate me. Is “over the back” not a thing anymore?

Agreed, and he should get credit for it. However it amazes me how some people would rather twist things to make themselves look right as opposed to recognizing progress and celebrating wins.

Yes, and his decision to listen to someone else, someone with apparently a better eye than his for today’s game, is what won the game. Thankfully he deferred to that someone, which allowed the team to win.
So, if he defers to someone in the future and we lose the game, does he get a pass?

Question for the board. And I’m not asking to be argumentative, I sincerely want to know. Why is this a poorly constructed roster? To my uneducated eyes, we have an NBA talent center in Ware. We have Mack (MCD AA) , Malik, Kaleb, Peyton (All MAC), and Walker at forward. Then there is X, Gallo, Gunn, Newton, and Cupps at guard. That’s 11 guys who should play minutes. A 11 man rotation would be pretty deep. As for shooters, there should be improvement in Gallo and Gunn, Mack was supposed to be one of the better shooters in the class, and Cupps had the stones to challenge LeBron to a shooting contest, and hung in. So I can understand an argument that there hasn’t been enough development, and that maybe some of the guys have not lived up to the hype, and that can be on the coaches. Some in game coaching has been questionable, but how is the roster poorly constructed?

Six weeks ago we were going to be a solid 10 deep rotation. Today we are poorly constructed? How did that happen? We all agree we desperately needed shooters after last year, but isn’t that what MM and Cupps were supposed to be? Today I understand what the Duck fans were saying about Ware. I did however think Gunn logged some very solid defensive minutes and the shots he took were within the flow of the game. I really do think those will start to fall.

Reading through this thread, it seems many of us have similar experiences. My guess is that many of us are similar in age, and our fathers were from the same generation as coach. They came from a time when men were hard, and love was tough, and I mean both of those things with the highest respect. They came from a time when doing what needed to be done took precedence over doing what felt good, when trophies were reserved for winners, not participants. Like my own father, Coach taught that simply wanting something was not enough, that you had to earn it, because there was no value in something given, but there was immense value and pride in something earned. I’ll shed some tears today, some for my dad, and some for coach, but most of the tears I shed today will be for the people who never had a man like them in their lives.

I get that, but it seems that with the advent of social media, this generation wants every aspect of their lives broadcast for public consumption, maybe this is an opportunity to teach a larger lesson. Also, anyone know if there are behavior clauses in NIL deals?

Couple of quick observations:
Gunn has incredibly quick hands and feet. He has the potential to be a monster on defense.
We win this game by double digits if any one of the following happens:
