  1. He got 11 shot attempts because he was swarmed with double and triple teams every time he touched the ball. You know what calls off those double and triple teams? Guards making baskets. FDU invited Purdue to shoot uncontested 3's from the perimeter.
  2. Purdue's starting back court that game (Newman, Loyer, Smith) went 7-24 from the field, 4-15 from 3 with 12 TO's. Throw in Morton and Jenkins off the bench who played 17 and 26 minutes respectively and collectively scored zero points, yeah their back court sucked. Smith was overwhelmed with pressure from the opening tip and struggled to get the offense into any kind of rhythm. I believe he had 7 TO's alone.
  3. Much larger problem than throwing a different wrinkle. Purdue just didn't have the personnel to deviate from any kind of scripted pre-game plan. Purdue simply lacked the playmakers on the perimeter to manufacture points when outside shots weren't falling.
  4. St. John's has an exclusive partnership with Boardroom, a sports media entertainment platform co-founded by Kevin Durant.
  5. Can either defend a 6'4-6'5 wing with some size and athleticism? That's likely the biggest worry pairing them in the backcourt together.
  6. That's my feeling on usage as well but I just don't see a guy like Travis Perry coming in and sitting behind Cupps for 3 years until he can comfortably see the court for 30 minutes a game. I get the feeling that Kentucky is his dream school but at the same time realizes playing heavy rotation minutes is always going to be an uphill battle there. Otherwise he likely would have committed a long time ago.
  7. How does he compare to Cupps? Admittedly I've only seen highlight tapes of him against lower level Kentucky competition so I take that with some grain of salt, but it takes a special type of talent to be an in-state kid recruited by UK. Appears to be a better scorer than Cupps (again competition plays a factor) but doesn't look to have the handles or athleticism that Cupps has. Are Cupps and Perry capable of playing on the floor together without having to worry about defensive issues? Would be my biggest concern.
  8. They weren't getting Bidunga to begin with. I think Burgess helps them (in Painter's mind) with their pursuit of Travis Perry, both members of Indiana Elite.
  9. Mark Mitchell, another former 5*, is returning for his sophomore year and started 27 games. Mitchell is a 3/4 tweener. There is a legitimate number crunch a Duke. IU is looking to replace a 2 year starter in Kopp who averaged 30mpg last year with no viable contributions on the current roster. If MM is afraid to compete against Banks for playing time, probably don’t want him in the first place.
  10. Correct. As it stands now, you’re looking at a rotation of Banks/Gunn (most likely) to fill Kopp’s role. Kopp played 30 mpg last year. Gunn shot 8% from 3 and Banks averaged 5 mpg. Even if Mgabko doesn’t live up to his 5* ranking, he’s still going to play 20+ minutes by default, almost in his sleep. His skill set blows both Gunn and Banks out of the water and from a physicality standpoint, he’s ready to play now. Staff should be all-in on Mgabko selling him as the day 1 starter at the “3”.
  11. Targeting and identifying talent has never been an issue with this staff. Was never my gripe. Getting them to commit however is a completely different story. Landing Dingle and/or Mgbako would go a longggg way in the grand scheme of things. But let’s wait until the ball clears the fence before we bat flip.
  12. If Mgbako isn’t better than Banks or Gunn next year (assuming he comes) then he was obviously overrated and not that good to begin with. This isn’t to disparage Gunn or Banks or even Newton or Cupps, but these four need time to develop. Mgbako would be a plug and play for anybody in the country.
  13. Should be, no? I would assume the staff has aspirations of winning the B10. Staff is clearly targeting starting caliber guard/wings in the portal and just offered Mgbako.
  14. To expand on just the shooting aspect, we lacked any kind of legitimate scorer in the backcourt outside JHS. Your off-ball guards need not only be able to shoot (Galloway and Kopp were serviceable in that department) but score at all 3 levels. Kopp and Galloway as the other perimeter players COMBINED to make less than 6 baskets a game last year. That's never going to cut it in a single elimination style tournament where guards are expected to shine. I know everyone is screaming "shooters, shooters, shooters" but at the end of the day, this team needs scorers. That's why missing out on Ledlum and not gaining any traction with Knecht really hurts. I anticipate Galloway being a reliable 3 point threat next year, but I really think he has maxed out his offensive potential. He's just not the type of player that you can expect to get you 15-16 points a game.
  15. Guessing Kansas is going to sit him down and show him 3 hours of game film on Jalen Wilson.
  16. Don't think identifying talent has ever been the issue. Time to anchor one of these fish.
  17. You've been a member all of 8 months longer than me. Calm down.
  18. If you can't handle a differing opinion, especially one that is as innocuous as a disagreement in the direction of a basketball program, you probably shouldn't be on here in the first place. I love IU and want them to succeed as much as the next guy. I'm not sold on the current coaching staff and have been direct in my examples. Many disagree. That's fine, that's why these types of boards exist.
  19. Starting to get the feeling you'd defend Woodson if he offered the best player in the FIJI house. Stop getting defensive when anyone questions what the staff does or doesn't do.
  20. Staff still needs to fill a roster and Walker's been in the portal almost a month.
  21. Scramble mode. We do have scholarships available and need to field a team capable of practicing against themselves.
  22. I responded to a poster who said our current staff has nothing to do with Archie Miller. That's patently false as two of our three assistants were brought to Indiana by Archie Miller himself. Never said anything about Brian Walsh relating to our current guard play. Which part is wrong?
