During my sabbatical, one thing I did start researching/trading is market volatility/volatility futures.  Topic is open for anyone that's familiar.

I'm ears.  Where do I learn?  Volatility sounds just like it sounds.  Is there a way to make some money?  Show me the way.

I figured DD would be in fire today but was surprised the first people he went after.  He got on the fans for booing last night because at Indiana that is beneath us. Went on to say the attitude of the students are bad because the administration sis catering to New York and N. Chicago kids.  He said he talks with a lot of restaurant and bar owners and they talk about how unruly the kids are today.

I'm a southern Indiana kid.  Let me tell ya, I was as unruly as it got.

DD throws anything g and everything at the wall to see if it sticks.

I think its obvious timing could be an issue here. I do feel like Woodson knows his time is up as do the players. Queen as well likely had an idea which could have played a role in his decision.

I think Calberts facial expression caught on camera was a sign that things had already started to happen on the back channels that he was completely aware of.

Fischers comment on live broadcast was pretty telling I thought as well.

DD speaking of the staff and players partying immediately after a home loss to me says they are all just going through the motions similar to when Sampson, Crean and Miller knew their fate before the season ended.

Like i said yesterday, I think a change is on the way. Or, at the very least, the wheels of motion are well on their way.

If not, then I would like to think that the athletic dept would have spoken up in an effort to control damage and redirect fan and media narratives to a more supportive position. Like Fred Glass did during the Crean era.

If it were me, I would release Woodson. Enter Cheaney into the Interim role alongside Hulls and let these kids have some fun to close out the season. Especially for the seniors.

Like we all said during the last few coaching changes, if IU makes a move, and with the dumpster fire we have now, it looks like a forced hand situation, IU has to get it right.

I have no inside info on this. Purely conjecture supported by reading of tea leaves combined with a dash of hope and common sense.

He's announcing retirement pre B1G tourney.  He's not quitting.

He wasn't cleared just not prosecuted. There is a huge difference because his girl friend wouldn't testify against him so they didn't have anything else to go on

This is typical abuse victims response

As we've hashed before.  The DA of Austin is likely one of the biggest liberals in the state of Texas and would love nothing but a notch on their belt of taking out a raging egotistical man.  If there was enough on scene evidence on the woman's body to take things forward, they 100% would have.

The truth is likely somewhere in between.  She does sound like a crazy b from everything I've read.  If he's hired by IU I trust he's cleared their investigation.  The chances of him coaching at IU are maybe 10% imo.

Just did not know where to put this but wanted to share a little encounter from Saturday.

Our company did some work for the All Star game and the owner and I were able to take our kids to the practice and had a great time. When I got home my neighbor was outside and he is a huge sports fan so we talked for a little while about the practice and sports in general. He was putting up his Nascar flag of the Jeff Gordon #24. Being a big Gordon fan myself we talked some nascar and I asked him why the Gordon flag and not someone current that has a chance of winning. Without missing a beat he says I have looked over at the IU flag you have flying and have thought the same thing. Gordon has the same chance of winning the cup as IU does winning another title in basketball. He says I think we both relish and miss the past. Unfortunately I could not argue.

I thought of you with all that signage going up all over the place.  Even tried to see if i could recognize you amongst guys doing work one day downtown.

Newton is a big X factor... Watched a few of his high school games, and the kid has a monster motor... Not a really good shooter from what I saw, but he'll attack the basket and defend as well as anyone we have now...

Man I really hope so.  The odds are tremendously stacked against him.  I can't remember if it was posted here but i read an article about that injury.  Evidently you have to push through severe pain in rehab for iirc over a year up to 2 years.  And most guys can't.   I think with more and more research and techniques of mind and body training, things such as daily ice baths, this meditation stuff, pain management,  I do have hope.  Now to expect him to contribute next year, even if all that has fallen into place.  No.  He's like the 13th scholarship of expectations.

One thing to consider, and I don't generally like making personnel decisions as a result of what others are doing, but there is a world where we are surrounded by:

    Painter at PU

    Billy Donovan at UL

    Chris Beard at UM

    Nate Oates at OSU

    Brad Underwood at UI

    Calipari at UK

    Izzo at MSU

That would be a tough situation to walk into for a guy like Dusty May in March/April 2025. Again, not saying we need to be reactive to other openings and who they may hire, but I don't think it should be ignored.

As someone wisely pointed out when we hired Woody, he is our version of Juwan Howard and Thad Matta was his Martelli. Let's not follow the folly of Michigan and wait to long to act.

The parlay odds on that would be like 1 in 2 trillion chance.

He's coached for a national title and has a top 10 team this year all within the same time frame of Woodson. It's not even a comparison.

Let's not get carried away.  He was gifted a classic Ferrari in perfect condition with a full tank of premium.  They got hot and had a great end of season stretch but they were on the bubble much of that year before getting rolling iirc.

Last year.  Blame it on Love.  Sure

This year.  The Ferrari and all of its support systems are full go after reloading.  We will see if IU is capable of getting better support systems and putting premium back in this old thing.

The level of injury risk is far different. As is the percentage of guys that will go pro after a year. So, I don't think it will ever be a huge thing like in bowl games. I would guess you're right and it will happen a bit, but I don't think it will just become a normal part of the late/post season.

    I agree

Not at all...Like I said, he's probably spent, and filled with a bit of emotion...

This is another example, to me, of the piling on I'm not a fan of...People who want a change are looking for anything to say about him to substantiate their position...

Christ sake where the Assistant AD for Basketball Administration sits is a big deal...Think about that...

I'm not saying everyone has to rally around him...Be as critical as you want...

But I hate to even think what this place is going to be like when it's confirmed he'll be back next year (which, unless he quits, and I don't think for a second Mike Woodson is a quitter, is going to be the case)...

We've already lost a couple of long time posters over the constant negativity...And I think we'll lose more...

    Me? Not going anywhere...Sorry :)

You officially and respectfully have your head in the sand.  Either that or you purposefully aren't paying attention.

I think most coaches agree that the WORST time to start looking at what went wrong in a loss is right after the game when emotions are still high...Emotional people don't make good decisions, or aren't going to say the right things. A cooling off period helps...it can be addressed the next day. Apparently Mike Woodson has read a leadership book or two...

Your second paragraph is right on...No, we don't know, though many assume they do...and you know the old saying about "assume."

I went back a few times and looked at the Purdue game at Mackey. Our start on offense was probably one of our best starts of the year...The ball moved well, and we were getting easy buckets. So we can do it, we just don't sustain it...Especially when a good team makes their run. We don't know how to step up and stop it. Experience will teach us that.

And I'm not sure what y'all want Woody to say at the press conferences...Again, after a tough loss is probably the worst time for a coach to talk, but he sticks to the program. I mean, what's he supposed to say? He's trying to keep the confidence of his kids up. I'm not a big fan of calling them out in public, but he knows his kids better than I do...I saw Knight do it to Alford because he knew it was going to elicit the response he wanted. You motivate different people different ways...

I'm not sure what people think a donor is going to say at this point after we paid Archie Miller $10 million dollars to skedaddle and now Dolson goes back to them for $14 million to buy out Mike Woodson after 2 fairly successful years, and one mediocre (and not quite over) season. I know what I'd tell him. And Dolson isn't going to admit a mistake that really hasn't been born out to be a mistake by anybody but the press, and some overly emotional internet posters...

And I appreciate the sentiment... I don't see the ship as burning...We'll have new on the court leadership, and I think Cupps, Mgbako, and Reneau will all step up and assume the mantle...Patience is a virtue :)

Idk,even my high school coaches would break down film almost immediately.   We had shoot around or practice the very next morning so they had to prepare.  Others can feel free to chime in on this.

Obviously not having a calm mature experienced bucket getting ball handler has basically train wrecked the season.

What is he supposed to say?  I made it simple.  Competent answers.  Anyone who has ever had to do a lot of public speaking knows there are times when the words are flowing and you sound like a genius and other times you can't get the flow going and you feel like you sound like an idiot.  He just recently held a stat sheet in his hand that said we shot like 52% from the field and he said we lost because we didn't hit shots.  There has been some borderline Kenny Payne moments recently that even us rose colored glasses guys grimace and cringe at.  Like calling Reneau awful.  Maybe he knows what buttons to push with him but the coach and system, if there is one, has to put guys in position to succeed as well.

I have no clue what billionaires say or do.  The people I know with lots of money are in the 10-40 million dollar net worth range.  And most of them have pretty large egos and high opinions of their own opinions.  Can't imagine that diminishes the more filthy rich you get.  Think guys like Jerry Jones and Jim Irsay.  When they have an idea or opinion, it's likely going to happen according to their plan, not a guy making $626,000 to be an atheltic director.

Future.  I've said this thing is correctable but man.  If we manage to bring some alphas in here handling the ball next year, taking and getting the shots.  We still gotta rebound and defend at an ymca or 5th grade pe class level.  Cupps has a lot of ways to go.  If he can make a big jump he can be a 15 minute guy next year on a top 25 team.  2nd unit leader.  He's not a starter next year.  If we run that back, I'll have to sharpen the tips of my pitch fork.  Guys can and should grow.

We've put ourselves in such a bad light with style of play the last three years, basically the opposite of what Crean did.  He never wavered off his desired system, regardless of personnel.   We have no clue what the system is, what the defense is supposed to look like consistently.   Offense is definitely not a 4 out.  Defensive rating has slide each year.  Blame it all on X not leading the point of attack, ok.  Why are old sophomores still lost?  Why is blocking out non existent 30 games into the season.  So many red flags are now waiving, not even rose colored glasses can keep my 5 year old from seeing it.

     What should he be doing?

I grew up with a guy that was a manager under Crean.  He said during season the staff and support staff was dropping 80-90 hours a week regularly in season.   I would assume, most coaches eat with the team and families that came into town, kiss the wife, and go back and watch the tape.  Win or lose.

Now it's a huge if on the when where what that we will never know.  Dolson knows.  I guess we will see if my 'retirement' guess plays out.  Hate to see it.  I was in very early on the Woodson train.  But it will take a miracle to fix this.  Forget cigars.  I want to see blockouts, quick passing to move the defense and make them do something other than just stand there, and moving without the ball.  Competent answers at a press conference.

Anyways.  Good luck keeping up the good fight.  I respect you as a man, poster, veteran, etc.  You stuck with Archie while his ship burned too.

There isn’t precedent to back that up.

    Yet.

Romeo was a difference case.  Clearly injured enough to need surgery, that doesn't count.  I don't follow every team that goes nit, cbi or any other trash end of season tourney.  It's bound to happen eventually.  If it hasn't already and it was so low key, non ncaa tourney guy, it didn't even catch wind on the radar, like 2nd rounder or not even drafted guy.

It's my opinion.  It's your opinion.  It's actually a guess.

  14. 38 minutes ago, Victobmyboy said:

Why would he? What other players have? Romeo did for the NIT. Not worth it.

It happens like 100 times a season in football.  It's probably only a matter of time before it trickles over to basketball.   I'm not sure what else he will show by playing 6 plus games.  Other than heart, which is important to me and fans but agents and evidently NFL gms don't give hoot.

DD like him or hate him had Dolson on blast today about lying to him about something Dolson was going to say or do on the 18th. DD also said the stories he is getting from inside the program would blow your mind. he said he called Dolson to see if what was said to him was true. Also said Woodson within an hour of the game ending was on the south side of btown drinking and smoking. Not caring to fix anything.

My guess is Woodson has been asked to retire.  Now it won't be public until after senior night.  I could see an announcement being made right before the tourney and hopefully it inspires the guys to finally win that tournament.   All of this is extremely unlikely.  If it comes true, I'm going to kick myself for not grabbing a lottery ticket for tonight's drawing.
