I’m not in the know but I take it as Dolson saying “just because next season isn’t guaranteed for you doesn’t mean you can get away with not following through with your other responsibilities as coach”

So neither of them knows?  Or he's still coaching for his job?  If he was coaching for his job wouldn't he be recruiting for his job too?

According tot he Fever its in 45 days  now. The Fever will become the new team for anyone that has followed CC closely and for many within a 6 to 8 hour drive I would think. How many daughters in cities like St louis, CIncy louisville Kansas City etc are going to want to become Fever fans and begging Mom and Dad to take them to see the Fever. This is huge for the franchise, like her or not the Fever will have the most popular WNBA player in the league.

She's still annoying but she has grown as a human, it appears.  Still whines and baits for calls but honestly, who doesn't.   If she's ours, unless she does some egregious stuff, she will win much of the city and state over.  Idk about corn flakes though, that's a little extreme.

    Self was there last year

See the next post.  Lazy Self still landed Flory while no showing his state championship game.

Like I said, only in Indiana and the Indiana fan base do we magnify the state tourney.  And maybe rightfully so, it's what makes Indiana basketball truly mean something.   And what @Billingsley99 just said is 100% true.  But don't throw gas hastily at a fire if you aren't ready for a little burn.

And I think this is exactly why the whole sectional game is being talked about. The timing is just horrific.....Woody isn't doing himself any favors when his back is getting closer to being against the wall. From what I understand, the staff wasn't' there either.

It just feeds the narrative that when it comes to game planning, roster construction, recruiting, etc., Woody just keeps tripping over these smaller things. The mistakes are compounding and it's effecting the larger picture.  It's like the analogy I heard on a podcast yesterday: "the hump is becoming a mountain"....and every mistake is making that mountain bigger.

And that is accurate and balanced.  Not just fanning the flames and throwing gas, just to fit the narrative.  Some of the other stuff the last few days has just been gas throwing silly.   You know what happens a lot of the times to the guy that throws gas on a fire?  They don't reap many benefits.  Our fans absolutely are the fuel to the fire but man we burn ourselves from time to time.

Another way to think of it is how does Woodson have that much NIL at his disposal and still have massive gaps in his roster and have such a down year?

He screwed up.  The big question is, does he get another crack at it or not?  Seems like almost all momentum has stalled.  Do they already know which guys we are in the hunt for in the portal?  Freshman class of 25 isn't saving next season.

Actually no i wouldn't. I would feel much better if we had 2 or 3 PG/SG in hand.  We already have Malik and Sparks and any other portal Big that wants to come here.  Just my 2c though

I want an experienced point guard over a 4 star freshman.  I'd take a John Wall talent though.

Sorry it was the 2022 title game. AND it is his home state....his main recruiting base. You get guys by putting in the work. We have one recruit coming in next year. If we had more and/or the roster looked more structurally sound, then sure it could be an unfair criticism. This is not the case.

But, by all means, let's overlook the roster construction as a whole and let it distract us from a huge problem on the horizon.

Do you honestly feel comfortable about next year?

I've been calling for the retire since the inception or maybe even before the inception of this thread.

He's losing from an optics and product standpoint.  That I do not deny.  What I've called over the top, is the reaction to day one of Indiana sectionals.  Was Teri Morren at day one of Indiana sectionals?  Purdue's women's coach is squaring away that program, did she lose ground on day one?  It looks bad but we literally have no clue if it matters/mattered and what other fish were or are frying.

Caleb Williams is I believe the first player ever to decline medical exams at combine. Only my Bears could find themselves in this position. Get the major haul last year...have the haul this year....and we still have more questions than answers on what to do.

First thought is major red flag.  Second thought is will he do a private one for individual teams?

My bad. Calipari, not Self.  How in the world did Kansas get Flory if they didn't go to every single high school basketball game of his.  Unreal the laziness of Kansas recruiting.  :coffee:

Oh and Calipari.   What a loser for not landing a single recruit at the Indiana high school 4 a championship last year.  Seriously.

Texas tech has only made one final four. They did have a lot of transfers but I dont remember the amount. They also fell off the next year and won 18 games. Then 18 the following year as well. That was also pre-NIL. This season there was a stat that was posted on social media that every team that took more than 4 were not projected to make the tournament.

Now with NIL the top teams can offer money and a chance to win by supplementing. So IU in order to have a chance to land the pieces to be a contender next season will need to raise a boatload of cash and overspend. Forget the $6 mil they spent for this year, going to have to be substantially more imo.

IU's roster entire collectively makes 6 mil?  Any component coach could come rebuild here instantly if that is accurate.

It's because these are the types of recruits that Indiana should be landing but Woodson isn't putting in the work. Then these guys go to X, Y, Z school and make IU look stupid for multiple years. When a coach isn't able to land in state kids because they are lazy it's a serious problem. Also you never know when a recruit will get beat. For example Painter went to watch Sisley and his team got beat so now IU looks bad compared to Purdue by everyone around the state. It's a domino affect.

I have middle ground here.  There are times the lazy narrative does seem to stick and seems accurate.  I see Walsh coaching huddles and every once in a while another assistant seems to cheer or instruct.  It's one of those questions are appearances 90% reality here?  And when you lay out the results, the narrative starts to stick.  And with the fan base, you gotta win the optics, even if there are 10 other fish in the frying pan and other factors at play.  @BGleas will tell ya about the rumor mill when he was with the Celtics, said they were wildly inaccurate and hilarious from the inside looking out.

So question we would all like to know.  Is he back or not?  Has a decision been made?  If he's coaching for his life he should still be recruiting like it too.  Like I said, maybe it is indicitive of something.

Remind me of how Woody didn't make effort to go to the Indiana state tournament last year because he was on vacation when 20 other college coaches were there.

And then remind me of how Woody has one recruit signed for next year.

And then remind me of how we maybe....mayyybe....have 4 guys from this roster coming back next year.

I guess we'll just rebuild through the portal and act shocked when the players just can't get over the hump because they can't pick up the defense....or the offense because this staff has pieced together a systematically inexperienced roster once again.

You may view it as an isolated event that we are over-reacting about, but to me this a continuing trend of this staff not doing what they need to do in order to build a strong and sustainable program.

I think that I've officially gone to the dark side. I just don't see a light at the end of this tunnel.

Woody sat front row next to Bruce Pearl, Izzo, Self, and Painter in the state championship game.  Come on guys.  This is just piling on now.  At least be accurate.

Didn't Texas Tech have back-to-back deep tourney runs with basically an entire starting 5 of transfers? I haven't taken the time to check my memory there, but I think it was something like that. That was back when there weren't nearly as many players transferring each year.

With the right coach (maybe even with the wrong coach), next year's roster could have Galloway, Reneau, MM, Cupps and Liam. Add Sparks and Leal for depth and veteran presence, and that's not a bad start. There are holes, but in this age, we should be able to fill those holes.

Yep.  Pearl and many other coaches would bring at least a few guys with them.  The only problem would be admissions.  Pretty sure Auburn let's about anyone in.

It's not but if you think it's not a big deal than you're just wrong. It's a really bad look for an already sinking ship

Maybe it's indicitive of something.  You seem to be in the know.  It's either already sunk or it's not.  That's what we are all trying to figure it out.

Pretty sure only in Indiana is the first night of the state tournament magnified like this fan base magnifies it.  If you can't admit that, then we have no middle ground here and I'm totally fine with that.  I'm not calling it nothing but some of these takes are the equal opposite of Goodman troll takes.

And maybe this thing already is 90% over and they know it.  You tell me.

Remind me how many games Woodson showed up to Ke'lel Ware in high school?

I'm not going to respond to all the quotes but geez guys. One game and you guys go 10 page postal on it?

It's first round of sectional.  Like 2 more sectional nights to go.  It's not like these kids hit campus next month or even next year.

It's over the top.  Ridiculous.   And this is the behavior that gets made fun of by local and national media.  It's what gets trilly troll posting IU about just for kicks.

i honestly can't fathom how Ware isn't unanimous after the "Ware Game"

According to my own definition, an argument could certainly be made for both.  We likely lose that game without both of them.  But Ware and Galloway were getting high praise on a national level.  They were both being talked about the next day.  12 assists,  twice in the same season, hasn't  happened since Isaiah Thomas.  Ware, holy crap.  That altered shot in the last possession or 2 was insane.  Obviously he's no Wemby but that ability to disrupt the game on the defensive end is going to have him shoot back up the draft list.

i would be thrilled with Beard, Pearl, Shrewsberry, or May over Woodson.  i'm assuming Oates isn't realistic, but him too.  i'd love to get any of them next season.  i'd go in that order only because of Beard's age compared to Pearl.  i'm not even a little concerned about Beard.  that said, if people are truly in the know and know he'd never be hired, fine.  if neither of them, i'm still just a little nervous about May because i still say you never know how someone does with the transition to the big stage.  still admit i thought Archie would be great.  others have assured me it is not the same, so i'd be optimistic.  from what i hear i think i might be more confident in Shrews being successful.  definitely put Beard and Pearl on a different level though.

Exact same.  Though the way Oats handled a murder in his program along with accomplice, I'd say I don't care for him.  He's probably better off in the sec.
