I'll say the same I said about 15 pages ago. Cincy would be idiotic not to call Lewis.
I was thinking the same thing...

Any up dates on Smith? I would have thought IU would be reaching out with the new staff.
I thought they had reached out "pre-emptively"... I guess we will find out.

Total 2021 Transfers To Date: 1268
That is like 3 players per team...

i have always been a fan of taking my 5 best players, starting them, and playing them big minutes regardless of position. so i have no problem not labeling them as a PG, SG, SF, PF, C. i get it that those days are gone. i just think those 2 players particularly - Lander and Johnson pretty much need to be PGs.
Probably... but maybe they could be instant fast-break...

no problem with 3 guards. i just think Lander is far from a shooter and seems like he needs the ball in his hands and create and set up guys. i haven't seen Johnson play, but if he averaged almost 6apg and shot poorly from 3, he's probably the same. just my thought.
I guess this is where we will find out how good our new player development is.
If we can just turn one of those into a quality 3 point shooter...

They all were primary ball handlers.....all brought it up the floor. All had played pg for previous teams or at one point another in the game. I think the point that most are making...and 5 fouls so precisely stated is that we don't need to label our players....I think just calling them guards is good enough but more to his point they are just players. We are going to start our 5 best players or the best unit we can. If that means multiple guards that can handle the ball....even better. Baylor excelled at getting down hill and attacking. It's because everyone in the backcourt could handle the ball and push it up the floor. Having multiple guards on the floor that can do that should not be an issue...its a positive. Heck even Stewart spent time at pg from when I watched him as he would bring it up and initiate the offense...so if we start Johnson, Rob, Lander, and Stewart I'm fine with 4 (pgs).
+1
I want us to be able to switch line-ups and offense depending on what the opposing team does, timing, score, needs...
I never want to hear another opposing player say that they knew what we were going to do better than we did.

I hope we aren't calling Butler or Teague point guards just because of their height. They both are really good guards and can create for others, but I wouldn't call them point guards, especially Teague.
Ok, line-ups with 3 players that had point guard size and point-guard like skills. I do not think that improving their ball handling or passing would hurt game plan.
My point is that if CMW thinks it works, there is no reason we could not feature a lineup that that has Rob, KL, and the X-man.

Stewart and Armaan are both strong secondary ball-handlers. We don't need to play two point guards if those two are on the floor.
Baylor had some 3 point guard line-ups.

We will have
TJD/BRUNK/DUNCOMB
BROOKS??/RACE/HUNTER/GERONIMO
Thats pretty crowded if you ask me. Maybe Duncomb redshirts?? That would be smart. Still that's a lot!
Ours would be pretty crowded, but this is a crowded frontcourt:
13 Walker Kessler F/C 7-1 245 Fr. Newnan, Ga. / Woodward Academy 11 Day'Ron Sharpe F/C 6-11 265 Fr. Greenville, N.C. / Monteverde Academy (Fla.) 21 Sterling Manley F/C 6-11 250 R-Jr. Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington Central 22 Walker Miller F/C 6-11 235 Sr. Greensboro, N.C. / New Hampton Prep (N.H.) 5 Armando Bacot F/C 6-10 240 So. Richmond, Va. / IMG Academy (Fla.) 15 Garrison Brooks F 6-10 240 Sr. LaFayette, Ala./ Auburn 1 Leaky Black G/F 6-8 195 Jr. Concord, N.C./ Cox Mill 14 Puff Johnson G 6-8 190 Fr. Moon Township, Pa. / Hillcrest Prep (Phoenix, Ariz.) We need to start comparing ourselves to the UNC's of the world again.

I’m going to place this here because I hope this doesn’t impact Woodson and his staff:
Expect to hear an announcement of who the new president of IU is sometime today or tomorrow. The BOT are meeting and they are running up on the end of McRobbie’s tenure. Hopefully the new president will focus on academics and let Dolson keep doing his thing. But I personally am interested in who gets hired and how that will impact all of IU.
Brad Stevens... obviously :)!

We should probably not ignore that Franklin was not a big name recruit out of high school. It may still be new having coaches like Bennett recruiting him hard.
For example Lander already knows what other top programs offer - he was by them. If I recall correctly, Franklin was mostly recruited by us and Purdue - so we were the only big name to seriously look at him in high school.

@The Daily Hoosier better reach out to @HoosierFaithful
I liked the sound of this line:
“This is not an indictment on anything that Pittsburgh basketball did,” Martin said. “But I think he wants to go somewhere that he’s trusted. I think he wants to go somewhere that he has a legitimate shot at winning, and I think he wants to go somewhere where he impacts the winning. Not saying that he didn’t have that at Pitt, but that’s what he’s saying he wants now.”

Versatility. I always thought Rob was pretty good off the ball if need be.

Rob will be fine - with a faster paced offense, we will need fresher legs. Plus the way he defends, he will find plenty of playing time. Personally, I look for him to be a breakout player next year. I always felt he was being "held back."

Fife kind of left that impression with me on the talk with Dakich. We are not begging players to come to Indiana or stay. Sounds like we put out our pitch and now we are operating from the idea that we have so many spots and we are looking at these guys to fill them. Eventually you will work yourself down to a "first to commit" type of situation.
Personally, I think that we are not yet at that situation and we will give Armaan & Race every opportunity to recommit.
But it is true, that eventually they will have to make a choice and the absence of a choice will eventually will become their choice.

not for IU. If we had gone after Beard we would have lost to Texas anyway.

Of course. It makes perfect sense that the guy who won the national championship would leave his school to come to an irrelevant program and take the job nobody wants anymore, perhaps just because Jeff Goodman tweets about that job hourly, even 9 days after it's been filled.
I am starting to like Goodman's obsession with us... it is kind of like that B-movie horror film that is so bad it starts to become good again!

Maybe I am just biased by the feedback I was hearing on the day he was announced, but it was like 80-20 negative.
There was definitely a lot of vocal negative voices - maybe the silent majority was for Woodson?

That would be the greatest turn around in sports history. a 12-15 team wins the championship the next season with the same players. Only IU fans could write that story.
and Duncomb... don't forget him
Let's hang # 6!

I do not think so. I think it was a very mixed reaction.
Heck, just look at our thread. It was more "nay" than "yay" with a smidgen of "let's see".

It is easy to forget now that we are all jumping on the bandwagon, but there was some significant negativity at the start:

No one can predict the future so I respect the caution. At the same time, we were close in a lot of those loses this year, as Trayce touched on in his press conference. The difference between 12-15 and 15-12 (or better) came down to a couple buckets here and some better execution there. That combined with the everything Woodson has done in one week has made me the most optimistic for IUBB I've been since 2012-13.
I appreciate the caution. But at this point, the Coach Woodson hire conditional on all the information we have is looking better than a Stevens hire with the information we had a couple of weeks ago...
and we were not speaking that cautiously then.

Dane Fife will join Mike Woodson’s staff at Indiana

That is all.
