  1. I feel like overall IU played much better than Wisconsin this half. Defense was much better, and we had much better open looks that we just couldn't hit. Of course, officials were good for about four points in Wisconsin's favor, too. Let's keep it up in the second half and hit some of those shots.
  2. That was a blatant offensive foul on Crowl
  3. We need to extend the defense. 3s beat 2s, and we can't keep up with them from the three point line. Way too many open threes, too much over helping. Too many turnovers, too.
  4. Sure did, and the announcers pretending it wasn't obvious. Defensive intensity is much better so far
  5. I think this whole topic is a good example of generational divide. Kids in this generation are simply much less likely to take this stuff without calling it out anymore, regardless of how widespread and accepted it is.
  6. For this analogy to be apt, you'd have also been visiting "Stinky's" twice a week for months and leaving negative reviews after nearly every visit, some of which do disparage particular employees, but you keep coming back week after week and posting the same vile ****. The players are responding to a pattern, not a one off.
  7. Definitely right. The whole landscape has changed, and there's more parity than ever across all D1 basketball. Too many people just see NW and think expected win without any further consideration. NW is legit good so far this year.
  8. I think there's a lot of overreacting going on recently; people saying this is the "easy" part of our schedule. Reality doesn't agree. Of the Big Ten teams we've played, the only one I would say we absolutely should have won given our roster on gameday was Nebraska, maybe Iowa, too, but they've turned it around lately. NW is right up there at the top of the conference standings right now, and they've played some pretty good teams in conference - they are rolling right now. Iowa flipped a switch mid-way through the first half against us and haven't looked back since. Meanwhile, we are trying to regroup from a stretch that's seen 3 starters out over the course of it, and two currently out indefinitely, including, by far, our best ball pressure defender. This rocky patch shouldn't come as a surprise. It also shouldn't come as a surprise if the defense starts picking up in the next couple weeks as players get used to new roles, rotations, and learning the other players' tendencies in those new rotations.
  9. No, these college students don't owe us ANYTHING. I'll admit, the post that seemingly set this off isn't particularly vile, but it's more the straw that broke the camel's back, really. Saying something like "he over helps too much" is criticism. Calling players soft and blaming them for your mood because they're losing more than you want them to is a bridge too far. Make no mistake, this isn't just an IU problem, nor is it simply relegated to college basketball. Social media and our overly connected culture has made too many people too comfortable with casually saying terrible things about other people.
  10. What's weak is fans who think it's okay to impugn the character and integrity of college kids because they had the audacity to lose a game fans wanted them to win.
  11. I personally don't mind them standing up for themselves. You think they like losing? Giving up 21 point leads? Social media lets anyone and everyone be casually vile to each other with no consequences or repercussions. Like Miller Kopp replied, I doubt anyone says this stuff to their face. It's one thing to say things like this to friends while watching the game or afterwards; it's another to post it on the internet where it actually hurts real people. Sure, it seems like a harmless meme, but it's always at somebody's expense. I doubt anyone here has thousands of people making fun of their hard fought effort and calling them soft at the end of every workday.
  12. Correct pronunciation is that guy's Achilles Heel.
  13. Agreed. We started having starters out to injury beginning with the Rutgers game. If you just look at the games, scores, and outcomes before and after that game, it tells a pretty clear picture that we were executing extremely well on defense prior to that, and how it's fallen dramatically since.
  14. Our defense started to suffer beginning with JHS's injury. It hasn't been the same since - I really think all the injuries have thrown a wrench into our defensive schemes as well as our rotations. Every game we seem to have a new player or new set of players unable to play, all the players are having to adjust to different roles, and we haven't had enough stability to get back to the elite d we were playing early in the year. My supposition is that if we can get some stability in our lineups (even with our injuries), defense will improve as time goes on, but I doubt it's going to go back to what we started the year with until XJ is back at full health (if he gets back).
  15. We hung 89 on them. Their "zone" wasn't why we lost. We lost because we gave up 91, two starters were out a majority of the game, and Trayce could barely jump in the second half.
  16. Ban him from Assembly Hall for life, and anyone else who feels the need to write stuff like that to kids playing a game.
  17. Definitely felt like OSU was the better team, just couldn't close it out.
  18. https://twitter.com/DavidPurdum/status/1608932152795893762?s=20&t=pk0K2F9n4055Qt9V_uEEGg Look at the reporter's last name and tell me he isn't the perfect person to be breaking this news.
  19. 1. IU football 2. IU basketball 3. American/American based team to win the Tour de France I have no interest in pro sports anymore. I feel like I'm just cheering for a business - all the city and regional pride that used to come with being a pro sports fan is gone these days. Might as well be a Fed Ex or Kroger fan, at least in my opinion.
  20. Voted Bates, but we don't win this without JHS or Galloway. It's all three of them for co-mvp in my book.
  21. I know Purdue has some big wins, but they aren't number 1 good. They also have a habit of peaking in early December. AZ and Kansas both look leaps and bounds better right now. Also, take note that Purdue blew out Gonzaga and Duke, but those outcomes are more likely to be reversed had the teams played this week. It's all about who you play and "when" you play them. IU got blown out the last two weeks, but both those teams played their best game of the season (so far) against us - and they're both final four level teams; there's plenty of time for IU to get back on track. I'd rather be playing our best ball in March than mid-December anyway.
  22. I didn't realize penalty kicks were sudden death like that. I hate all sudden death overtimes. It seems really against the spirit of competition to me.
