  1. Deal, they can break out a bong on the sideline if we just keep winning.
  2. I would like for you to be right, but I can’t ask them. And I agree, it would be weird for them to do something so stupid in such a public manner. It may well be nothing, but to someone who has smoked weed off an on for my entire life, it looks like you are taking care of business and tossing your roach. It’s not an uncommon visual. And again there is nothing bad about what they are pantomining, except that they are white kids in a world where black kids get arrested on the street for even appearing like they may be smoking weed. Again, I would prefer to be wrong, but it’s just a bad look from my perspective.
  3. That would be the best outcome. But what were they tossing on the floor and stomping out?
  4. It’s what it looked like to me. Woodson needs to get on that like yesterday. I’m not saying that athletes can’t smoke weed, that would be out of touch and clueless. But you have to be cool about it. That was the opposite of cool for privileged white dudes to be doing that on the sidelines during a nationally televised game.
  5. The announcers said something about a “tea break,” after laughing, but “tea” has in the past been a slang for weed in the jazz community. It looked to me like they were pantomiming tossing a roach and stomping it out, which is just freaking stupid to do on the bench during a nationally televised game. I say this as an adult who partakes in weed on a regular basis. It’s a nice thing for me as an adult to imbibe in the late evenings when I have no other demands on my time. Bench warmers on a national basketball team should be a little more discreet. I’m sure they think they are cool, but it’s really not.
  6. Ha, after a few beers I was trying to explain the “it’s okay we lost this, b/c it might have pushed us into the 8/9 seed if we had won” and my wife was like, “Can you just take the dog out, I have no idea what you are talking about.” But, no reason to hang our heads with this one. We competed until the end and should have won, w/o that ridiculous bank at the end. Fran definitely should have been T’d up that one time, but I think the officials were worried about Francon levels. We still need shooters. Like now. Frustrating that I don’t feel confident if anyone other than XJ is shooting from three. Kopp and Stewart need to step it up like now. You were brought here to do one thing. Do that thing.
  7. Had a pretty scary moment just now with Sling TV. Couldn’t find the game anywhere on their to record. Realized they don’t carry CBS. Had to sign up for YouTubeTV to make sure I could watch the game today. Fridge is stocked with beer and first one has just been opened.
  8. Yeah, they were outside the arc, but he was leaning pretty hard into Race. I was okay with the call overall.
  9. Damn, that was an enjoyable game. I’ve almost forgot what it felt like to have confidence in an IU team down the stretch against a good team. I grew up with the best IU basketball (1975 [my first IU season as a 7 year old], 1976, 1981, 1987, 1992, 1993 [those last two were amazing teams and only a knee injury sidelined the 1993 team]) and have often been discouraged by our team since that crazy 2002 run, but these guys and this coaching staff seem to be getting it together at the right time. I’m not sure I would have guessed sed this, but I’m enjoying the ride. Iowa seems like a tough draw, but I thought the same about Michigan and Illinois. Let’s just f#@ing do this!
  10. !!!!!!!!!! I have one more call at 2pm, then I can watch on Sling! I was checking the score as this previous Zoom ended and then I got a text from my FIL about the final. Down goes Illinois!! And suck it Cockburn!
  11. She is definitely a cool customer. I think I was most impressed with the drummer though. Small kit, nothing flashy, but man he was laying down the most consistent and driving groove.
  12. I had never seen a concert video of them, just their NPR Tiny Desk concert. I thought it was going to be kind of groovy and chill. Instead they blew our faces off and we were up in the mezzanine. Definitely catch them if you have the chance!
  13. I think the only concert that I’ve ever been to that smelled more like weed was Rhianna. I guess NYC is officially back. But DAMN, these three just blew everyone away last night. You don’t expect a trio to come out with that much power. In the middle of their set, they started doing a mash up of popular songs - Bennie and the Jets, Allman Brothers, ZZ Top, and then they veered into a 90s hip hop mash up with Warren G and Snoop Dogg. I’ve seen a LOT of concerts, but these guys were up there in the top tier. I thought all of the guitar would be a bit much for my wife, but she was also blown away by them. @IUFLA they are a Houston band, FYI.
  14. I like that. Lots of time for that young man.
  15. Just finished the game myself. What an incredible last twelve minutes. Wonder if it will help us tomorrow that we’ve already had a game in and Illinois hasn’t. Hopefully, our guys are feeling confident after this second half drubbing of that POS team and coach. Loved Trayce’s comments about going up for rebounds and Geronimo was already up there.
  16. XJ has really come on strong for us. We needed a guard that could step up like he has.
  17. @tdhoosier The wife got us tickets to see Khruangbin tonight at Radio City Music Hall! Pretty jazzed. I think I can fit the IU game in between end of work and before heading into the concert.
  18. WOW! I was really busy today and didn’t have time to check the score much. Saw we were down 15 when I checked early in second half and then pretty much gave up on them. I was on a Zoom call at 1:30 and checked the score on my phone and we were ahead! It was all I could do to keep my face composed when I saw that. Looking forward to watching this one! We do have a concert at Radio City Music Hall tonight, so might have to watch after.
  19. I can either do some tedious work on our FY23 budgets on a tiny laptop screen or keep watching this. Somehow the Excel work seems more fun and interesting.
  20. Quoting the Washington Times(!) - which is hilarious. When I lived in DC, that was the most mocked paper. They try so hard, but always the little twisted brother. Thank you for your pointers about how to post on a message board though. Appreciate how often you think of me.
  21. You’ve posted this 10 year old article before in this thread trying to make it political. And again I’m not biting. I’m also not sure why you think I would waste time in a PM conversation with you. That sounds as fun as a root canal.
  22. Well, it’s difficult for a physical newspaper to correct itself the same day. Obviously, they update and correct online stories in real time, but that’s kind of hard to do in a physical newspaper. Do you remember those? And yes, the NYT is a benchmark - for the freaking world. You might not realize that, but it is. Travel to any major city in the world and there will be a copy available in your hotel or any place that sells newspapers. It’s a newspaper of record for the world. I’m sure you are right that opinions on here will vary widely. And definitely issues with the cyber warfare and false information. I’m also sorry that you don’t think there are a lot of good journalists. There clearly are. On the NYT, in other major newspapers, and probably one or two in your own hometown. How their work gets used and abused by media companies is definitely an issue. And before the peanut gallery pops up with the usual. Yes, there are some bad journalists out there and lots of bad media companies. I see this. But it doesn’t mean they all are.
  23. This is a tough read and really makes you thankful for the relative calm that we have here. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/09/world/europe/ukraine-family-perebyinis-kyiv.html KYIV, Ukraine — They met in high school but became a couple years later, after meeting again on a dance floor at a Ukrainian nightclub. Married in 2001, they lived in a bedroom community outside Kyiv, in an apartment with their two children and their dogs, Benz and Cake. She was an accountant and he was a computer programmer. Serhiy and Tetiana Perebyinis owned a Chevrolet minivan. They shared a country home with friends, and Ms. Perebyinis was a dedicated gardener and an avid skier. She had just returned from a ski trip to Georgia. And then, late last month, Russia invaded Ukraine, and the fighting quickly moved toward Kyiv. It wasn’t long before artillery shells were crashing into their neighborhood. One night, a shell hit their building, prompting Ms. Perebyinis and the children to move to the basement. Finally, with her husband away in eastern Ukraine tending to his ailing mother, Ms. Perebyinis decided it was time to take her children and run.
