2022 Class Rankings and Discussion

Wait.... who comes off of their bench? No way it's Evans, is it? -
I sure hope we can count on Bates as a starter by his junior year, that would be a disappoint if not.
-
Probably not Geronimo at the 3 but otherwise a very solid lineup. I'd think that spot would more likely be Galloway, Gunn, or someone not on our roster, but that could be Final Four level good.

Kofi would get eaten alive in the NBA in every imaginable way. -
Can NIL solve an Oversign issue?
KoB2011 replied to Bustout's topic in General Basketball Discussion
Certain schools, just like certain companies, can absolutely take that mindset that the value comes from them as the institution, and not from the individuals (employees or players). And that very well may work in some cases. But I think what we are seeing with the transfer portal, just like the Great Resignation, says that doesn't work in a lot of situations. Other players pay attention to how you treat their teammates, too. As @Steubenhoosieralluded to, there are unintended consequences for the approach some of you are advocating for. -
Can NIL solve an Oversign issue?

I’m fairly certain this is the case, yes. Theres also a big difference in this pitch when asking someone to join the program (and it’s illegal to make then) and asking a player to give up a scholarship. Very few people take having their employment status and earnings messed with very well. -

I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’m in enterprise software sales and I promise you that I’m far from unique in my willingness to walk away from a situation when you start messing around with my money. -
2022 Class Rankings and Discussion

Sure, but that had a lot to do with volume and then one uber highly ranked guy. This class isn’t like that. -
Can NIL solve an Oversign issue?
KoB2011 replied to Bustout's topic in General Basketball Discussion
I mean I agree, I don’t think any scenario where this happens is likely at all. I feel like I make pretty good money and I like my coworkers, I can’t imagine a scenario where I give up $25-30k just to keep working with them. People usually are great at being altruistic with money when it’s not their money. -
Dane Fife not returning to Indiana

But he also led the movement to keep Davis, no? I think there’s room for both to be considered Knight disciples, but if there’s only one it’s pretty clearly Woodson isn’t it? -
I think that there is a bias toward playing older guys, but it’s not something that more talented guys won’t overcome. We just didn’t have anyone that really justified it last year.

Can NIL solve an Oversign issue?
KoB2011 replied to Bustout's topic in General Basketball Discussion
I think it’s probably legal but incredibly unlikely to happen. If we are over the scholarship limit someone is probably moving on. The one exception might be TJD withdrawals from the draft and it puts us over, so he decides to use his considerable NIL money to pay his own way rather than forcing a teammate to do so. Even that seems like a stretch but much more likely than someone like Leal doing it. -

Any other news about who has joined his staff? -
Race already confirmed he is back, but yes if TJD is back we are full. So if SM or DD commits, someone is moving on.

2022 PF Malik Reneau Commits to INDIANA!!!
KoB2011 replied to The Daily Hoosier's topic in Basketball Recruiting
Duncomb is definitely not the first guy I want moving on if TJD is back and McNeil and/or DD come. I think he has a lot of upside and can see a scenario of a future lineup where he starts. -

Dexter Dennis visited today, Sean McNeil has a visit this upcoming weekend. If TJD does come back and one of them comes, someone has to leave. -
Are you kidding? No way he makes curfew when he is back in Bloomington.

KoB2011 replied to The Daily Hoosier's topic in Basketball Recruiting
I have a hard time believing a guy that spent so long in the NBA wouldn’t make the best decision to win basketball games. I think he is willing to move on from a few guys if it means we are winning conferences and making deep runs. Not saying I think TJD is for sure back, but I think coach is trying to upgrade us at the wing regardless of that. -

This might be the thing that pushes Race to the bench, too. I think MR is much more likely to push out Race than JG is because as mentioned… footwork, skill, and hands. -
You want more than three of @5fouls ex wives combined.

Such a great point. If someone wants to leave because they don't have a clear path to minutes here, let them.
