"Beard told police that he has audio recordings showing he was not the primary aggressor. He was asked if he would be willing to share those audio recordings to which he said 'no.'"

I assume those recordings would not be great for him either. This was a pretty ugly situation and even if she was the aggressor, seems like he might have some decision making issues. As I recall, she was rather notorious which leads me to believe he probably dug his own grave by merely being in this relationship. If you're a high profile anything, you have to be a little bit more selective in the relationships and friends you keep otherwise stuff like this is likely to happen.

Hard to know exactly why he wouldn't share the recordings.  Probably not worth it unless they proceeded with charging him.

I don't think anyone comes out great in any heated argument, especially if someone starts taking snippets from the recording out of context. So can understand his reluctance to release it even if he doesn't come off that badly in it.

It's amazing. They also converted much of the incentive bonuses to guaranteed salary.

And why change a contract that wasn't even up or even close to it.  It's almost like Woodson wrote it himself or had a compromising photo of whoever assisted in that one.

I'm guessing it was the good ol' boy issue. Quinn?

With the reworked contract, he gets 100% of his remaining salary if fired before 4/1/26 (was 4/1/25), then 50% if fired in the last year. He isn't walking away from $12.6M. It would have to be a firing, with full buyout, disguised as a retirement.

Whoever writes up our contracts and does extensions needs fired.  what is that person's buyout?

@IU Scottwhy did you click on sad? i really want your take. you rooted for a coach for 20 some years that had more baggage than an airport. They used to say Knights secretary was the highest paid in the world because he threw a potted plant at her once a week. Hell everyone has some sort of baggage. We look deep enough we'll find yours maybe. :coffee:

Just think of how much the secretary would have been paid if Knight's aim was as good as Eli Holman's with said potted plant lol

This is exactly my view.  Those two are, IMO, the only "home run hires" currently being discussed.  Heck, from a coaching standpoint, they may be better than Stevens, who hasn't coached/recruited at the collegiate level for several years.

I haven't heard anyone complaing about Cigs age and both programs need the same thing - a savior to rebuid them.

For years we wanted basketball and football to be in the same boat....

    Guess we are finally thereO.o

So to take those negatives and make them positives.  He sees a basketball centric school in a basketball centric state that has resources allocated to basketball (even when things are going bad) that can only be matched by a handful of other schools in the country.  He believes it is a sleeping giant in a conference that is going to be the only truly coast to coast conference in the country and that conference just happens to be in a position where if he gets rolling he could put it in a chokehold like Kentucky used to do to the SEC.

As a cherry on top for the ego stroke, he knows if he gets this turned around that he immediately becomes royalty in the state.

    We're a football school now...:)

I don’t think it’s so much a refusal to play modern day basketball as it is was we missed on guys like Knecht and Timberlake, and the decision was made to go with X, Cupps and Galloway, with the hope that Gunn and Banks would make a sophomore leap, and be threats from the outside. We all know how that turned out, so we were left with the same old let’s go down low to Reneau and Ware. Now is that on Woodson - yes, but is it correctable - yes. So I say, let’s see how next season plays out.

With Woodson firmly on the hot seat, it's going to be even harder for him to recruit.  If he couldn't bring in guards last year with a much cooler seat and fresh off sending JHS to the NBA, then what makes you think he can this year?

Even if he magically fills up our guard rotation, he still has wacky rotations and a refusal to let assistants do their job.

I can't offer up anything more than what's been hashed and rehashed. I think he took TJD from having to learn a foreign language to making him by some accounts the steal of the draft. I see what he did with JHS. I saw the peak of Xavier towards end of 22.....I see what Trey has developed into.

I also know there are several recruits and their families who love Woodson....so I'm factoring in that to my opinion as well.

Again I've said this before. I'm more Pro Coach. Any Coach.

I think we are all pro having a coach. :)

If it is truly "any coach" then we should strive for a coach that increases our chances of success and I just don't see how keeping Woodson is good for our chances of getting better.

In Vegas, a betting man isn't likely to put their money on Woodson turning this around.

That doesn’t leave any time to develop a relationship with a new staff if that happens…we have a one man class this offseason and if Woody was to be dismissed after 24…the 25 class will be a disaster as a new coach won’t have time to re-recruit all these guys. The future is rather dim if Woody doesn’t figure it out.

I don't see switching coaches as being a major issue in today's NIL and portal environment.

Plus, if we get a coach that is already coaching in college elsewhere, then he would already be developing relationships with recruits.   And we would only have 1 recruit to convince to stay.

Anyone that thinks Woodson has a low ceiling (which is growing) will prefer just to cut our losses and try to find the right coach.

One of them you know how they fit in your program the other you have no idea. One is a gamble while the other is more of a sure thing. Lance Jones didn’t ask for anything NIL-wise and just wanted the chance to show how capable he was on a bigger stage.

You’re telling me Edey getting a big NIL payday to stay versus Ware getting one to come to IU are the same?

    Yes they are the same

To me, there’s a big difference between NIL opportunities for existing players versus using NIL to “buy” players. NIL isn’t supposed to be used to entice recruits/transfers to come to your school but there’s no way to police that. Purdue isn’t in the business of “buying” players and I don’t think that’ll change. Edey has certainly done well for himself no doubt about it.

Not sure what you mean re “up their NIL game” in other areas? Our NIL is more than competitive.

so what's the difference between buying players to stay and buying players to join the program from somewhere else?  (other than the obvious of where they played the year before)

MM was theoretically a five star recruit.  I think we can all agree that’s an over ranking.  We can debate whether he’s a high 3 star or a low 4 star.  He is also not exactly a poster child for high school coaching in NJ.   He has not been exposed to the quality of coaching he’d get throughout Indiana.  Big difference.

Why do I bring that up here?  Because Sisley is the guy we’d need, not MM.  If he goes to Purdue and we are stuck with MM, nothing highlights more how much we have lost our way.

MM is not a winning player (at least now).  He’s the type of guy who would be at Michigan or someplace like that and we would kick his ass with the Sisley type of guys who know how to make winning plays.  Now it’s upside down.  Hopefully MM gets better but let’s be honest with ourselves.

MM would probably fit better as a 4 but since we want to play Ware and Reneau, we are playing him out of position.
